The Tascam 2488MKII has all the amazing features as its predecessor the Tascam 2488, but with an 80 GB hard drive, an improved LED display, and a colorful user-friendly unit design! With the Tascam 2488MKII 24-Track Digital Recording Workstation you can record 8 inputs into the XLR and 1/4" inputs simultaneously. 20 physical faders control the mixdown channels, and each channel has 3-band EQ and access to 3 built-in effects processors. A built-in standard MIDI player and General MIDI sound module provide an additional stereo sound source for fuller arrangements. For the final mix, the built-in CD-RW drive can record the 2-track master mixdown in addition to backing up the hard drive and importing and exporting WAV files. A high-speed USB 2.0 jack connects to PC for data backup and SMF/WAV file transfer.

Bang for the buck!!!!
This thing is really just a ton of capability for the price. You have enough tracks to do just about anything you want. You can record up to 4 mics and 4 lines at the same time. For home recording, you would really never need more than this. The only reason for more would be micing drums with more than 4 mics. The sound quality is great, and has some very nice effects on tap.
There are really only two downsides to this unit.
1) They for some reason decided to remove the built-in drum machine which is present on the original 2488 which is a huge downer for users like myself.
2)Seemingly poor product documentation that will leave you guessing on a few things.
For the most part it is easy to use and straight forward, but for mastering, cd duplication, and effects loops, they could have done a better job of documentation.
Great Product overall. Would recommend it to anyone interested in studio quality recordings from home without the use of a computer.

Nice, but a bit tricky to use
This is quite a machine for the money. With an 80gb hard drive, you can pack quite a bit onto it. The sound is superior and you could produce a nice DIY release on just this product alone. Now, the tough part, to save an audio track to the built in cd burner, the track has to be mastered. But how? Have been using this for a month, and still have not figured it out. Instructions seem geared more for an experienced recording engineer, as the product is new, can't seem to find any help with it. Suggestions?
