T-Rex Engineering Squeezer Tube-Driven Bass Compressor Pedal (151085)
Availability:

Tube-driven compression designed just for bass.

The T-Rex Squeezer is a tube-driven compressor specially designed for bass players. It smoothes out your bass lines and keeps you right where you want to be in the mix--while enhancing your sound with rich tube warmth. And it naturally gives you complete control of all essential parameters, letting you craft a compression that's all your own.

Bass players tend to get buried in the mix--and it's not just because guitarists are always turning up the volume! Electric bass guitars have a low frequency range, which makes it difficult for the human ear to distinguish in the first place. And the techniques bass players use--from atmospheric open-string drones to popping and slapping--cover a wider dynamic range than almost any other instrument in your band. Squeezer evens your dynamics out, making your lines come through at the right level, no matter how you're playing.

Compressors can be complicated, but Squeezer keeps things simple--giving you full control over compression ratio, threshold, attack, release, gain and overall level in a neat, logical design. This makes Squeezer great for use on stage, where you don't have time for fiddling with too many knobs. But don't be fooled by this pedal's simple design. It's a full-featured precision instrument that can be fine-tuned for a perfect sound in the studio as well as live on stage.

  • Livens up my clean tone

As reviewed by ALEXANDER DAMICO on 2/3/2012

I'm playing a custom built guitar (not a bass) with DiMarzio humbuckers through a Mesa Lone Star and I must say, this compressor brings a lot of life to the clean sound of the guitar as well as evening out the dynamic range. A lot more of the subtleties of each note or chord are coming through. More treble and overtones come through but not in a harsh way at all, subtle and textured. When I slide my finger up one of the wound strings the "wound string sound" really comes to life. The effect is still there with the amp clipping but not as pronounced. I wouldn't say it is changing the tone of the signal, just bringing more of it through. The reason I chose this unit over others that are much cheaper (and have very good reviews) is that you can adjust pretty much every possible parameter on this unit. If you go to the T-Rex website they go into good detail about what all the knobs do and I definitely notice a difference tweaking all of them, except for the "release" knob, which so far I haven't noticed a difference with, but that may be because my guitar has very good sustain to begin with. Does the tube do anything? Who knows! But the unit does sound good. The only other compressor I've owned was a DynaComp that I had years ago. As best as I can remember I liked the DynaComp but it sounded a little "squishy" or "Rubber bandy", kind of like the signal bounced back a little from the initial compression. I don't hear that with this unit.
