I've had the desk for about a week now and I really don't have any complaints other than I wish that it had a keyboard tray that slid out. I've been wanting a desk with rack mounts directly in front of it for a long time to put my audio interface, compressor, and console power supply so it's within arms reach because I'm a lazy.

As other reviews have mentioned, the boxes were fairly tattered during the shipping process. You could tell that the shipping packing straps were used as a grip to move the boxes, which ate through and tore the cardboard down to the desk pieces. I was expecting it to be a lot worse that what it was but I only have one fairly small blemish on the desktop corner area that I should be able to sand down and put some cherry stain over.

I put the desk together by myself without much hassle, although it would have been much easier with 2 people. I definitely recommend using an electric drill, especially when you have to drill several screws into the bottom of the desk.

The length of the desk (facing the desk to the back of it) is a bit more than I thought but that's not really a bad thing, especially if you have cats that like to lay on the desk while you work. If you put your computer monitor at the very back of the top platform it's a little difficult to clearly see text the monitor and it does sit up a little high, but it's worth it for the rack space and an easy solution is to just tilt your monitor down. The top platform also provides a perfect height for my monitors to be at ear level how I have my chair seated. I find that there's plenty of leg room and space for me to cross my legs under the desk.

I highly recommend doing some cable management before setting this up and allow for plenty of room to move the desk to work behind it when needed. I use a PC computer tower and it fits perfectly underneath the back of it it just about an inch under the back plate that goes down the desk.

Would get 5 stars if it weren't for shipping.

when the I received the packages it seemed as though no special care was taken to ship both boxes. There was holes, the plastic bands cut through them and I could tell a forklift was used at one point. When I opened them up I was surprised that no real physical damage was done to any of the parts. What I did find while I was assembling it was a couple of minor blemishes and factory defects. The hardware that is suppose to tighten up the top shelf didn't really get tight and the caps that suppose to attach to it to cover up the screws doesn't go on. I can live with the minor defects, I do love the desk, it looks great, the roller casters are really smooth to move or reposition the desk and I was able to put all the gear I had intended to put on, but for what I paid for it should have been a better quality product from the start.

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

I think once I begin to do professional, I'll definitely be changing desks. For now, it does what I need it to do, as a desk. I hate that the monitor has to sit so high, it causes me to consistently be looking up at an angle towards the screen. It's not comfortable and it's by far my biggest complaint at the moment.

Flat pack cheapness

By JOSE RODRIGUEZ

from Claremont CA

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

This is a good desk if you can get a good one BUT shipping will damage. Cheap Ikea style flatpack packaging. None stock item ships from manufacturer in 2 pcs. For the price its not really worth the risk.

Nice if it survives being shipped!

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

Go to Home Depot and buy a Minwax Cherry Wood Stain Marker for $8 and you will be able to blend in any chipped areas. It's true the manufacturer doesn't seem to care about the quality of packing/shipping these desks, but if you're fortunate to get one that isn't damaged or the damage is hard to see, the desk will be great in your studio. I like the dual 4U rack space although it makes your monitor sit up high and you might feel like your neck is straining. I bought a Vesa kit for my Apple LED Cinema Display 27" and now the monitor sits lower and it's more comfortable. I bought two of the Side Cars and I replaced the front casters with larger ones from Home Depot to give the Side Cars and angle. Otherwise, because they are flat and not very elevated, you have to crouch over to access additional gear. Having the angle help quite a bit. The perfect desk and side car would be Sterling Module Plan B and Vesa II, but that setup is closer to $5,000. For the price this furniture is hard to beat. Better than all the other sub-$1000 furniture.

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

i love this desk...because my parents bought it for me god bless their hearts

Go ahead and assume that there will be broken corners. Go ahead and assume you will not fit 4 spaces of rack gear because whoever cuts the holes for their rack rails is on a heavy dose of pain killers.

This also goes for the side carts. Really any of the studio trends stuff will let you down. Your gonna go home. Open the box and spend the next 30 minutes deciding whether to pack it back up and wait another week for a new one, only to repeat the process.

You will not receive a discount. You will spend 350 for a flawed desk. Fact

The directions are confusing. And make sure you figure it out right. A buddy of my put the top on wrong and randomly one day it collapsed and shattered the screen of his IMac.

Anyway. Im making it work and have had it about a year. Moved with it twice. Everytime i try to put rack gear in it nothing lines up and gear gets heavy and it is really frustrating.

Buy a different brand of desk.

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

This desk is very sturdy and practical. The elevated rear platform is perfect for a large monitor and/or speakers. Plenty of space on the bottom platform for a variety of items. Built-in rack mounts will prove to be useful over the years. My only complaint is that it arrived with three small places where the cherry finish was chipped during transit. It is packed well with tons of styrofoam to absorb impact, but it wasn't enough protection I suppose. The dings aren't bad enough to warrant sending it back and will probably only be noticeable to me. I'm looking for a good workspace and not a flawless piece of furniture to show off, so it fits my purpose beautifully.

    A great purchase

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

I needed a desk for my home studio. I initially got an office desk from Ikea, but it did not suit my needs. I decided to take the plunge on this desk, plus I found a coupon for %10 off my purchase over $99. Saved me $21!! Got home, put the desk together and noticed the quality of wood was head and shoulders above the desk from Ikea. All of the parts fit nicely, and the desk is sturdy. The wheels are great and make the desk easily mobile. The look of the cherry finish is very nice on the eyes. I should have bought this desk years ago when I first saw it.

Got to my house chipped from every corner

    By jorge contreras

    from Monterey Park, CA

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

The concept of the desk is great, as stated in other reviews. But it is a very fragile desk. If you're planning on getting it shipped to your house or store, it most like with be chipped and dented from some metal parts like mine was. I like the desk and kept it, but every now and them I'm disappointed that i did. It is a good size and great height but i wish it was made of better and thicker wood. Not only for breaking causes but for desk resonance from your monitors. If it was 199.99 it would be worth it, but you would still be gambling with a damaged desk that will be in your studio.

Solid, well made, attractive, and LARGE

        By Elizabeth Tinney

        from Seattle, WA

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

A very attractive desk, well made and very solid. It arrived in perfect condition (no damage from shipping) and was easy to put together. It's both wide and deep, with plenty of room for two large displays side by side, keyboard, mouse, and several rack-mounted items. Unlike every other desk I've found, this one has rack-mounting brackets under the raised rear shelf, enough for several pieces of gear. The wheels make it easy to move, which is great because my home studio is also a spare guest room; it also makes it easy to get behind it to change cables. My only complaint is that it's too tall for me (I'm 5'3"). (I did NOT deduct any stars for this; it's not the desk's fault I'm short.) If I put the dual displays up on the rear shelf, where they were designed to go, I have to crane my neck painfully to look at them; also, they are then very far away, which makes screen details hard to see. I ended up putting the displays down on the main desk in front of the rear shelf (the main desk is so deep it can easily accommodate displays in front of the shelf). Although this works well in terms of ergonomics, the displays then block access to my rack-mounted gear. Since all of my current gear has software controls, this isn't an insurmountable problem (I just move the displays aside for the few times I have to move cables, etc.) The desk is also the most attractive studio desk I've seen - the combination of the beautiful deep-cinnamon cherry wood finish, the black metal, and the slanted design give it a warm yet contemporary look. (It looks like it cost about three times as much as it did!)

        Beautiful Concept Desk

        By Thomas Franks

        from Oshkosh, WI

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

I ordered this desk after I had seen one at my local Guitar Center. As others have stated plenty of room for my lap top and extended monitor and I must say that my Editor Key board from the UK looks great against the Cherry wood finish. I was worried it would arrive damaged but I was one of the lucky ones and had no damage. My only complaint is that when I went to install my rack items the mounting bracket holes weren't aligned properly so my equipment looks a little tilted installed. I suppose if it bothered me enough I would reinstall the mounting system but I'm over it. If you looking for a nice work station this is it for the money it's a good buy.

Like most of the reviews, my desk arrived in beat up packaging. A had a couple scrapes, a few gouges. I used some stain to cover up the blemishes, but other than that the desk is great! It has really helped to improve my workspace & I recommend it to anyone with a bedroom studio in need of a functional desk.

Sturdy, functional and an efficient use of the desk top space and rack space. Easy to assemble if you read the directions BEFORE you start and pay close attention to the leg orientation. Some minor cosmetic issues but nothing to write home about. Love the wire storage in the modesty panel, someone used the old melon on this one!

Good looking, functional desk. Perfect for a small to medium personal space for recording. My only complaints being that there were a couple minor blemishes that were likely created in transit, and one of the pilot holes for a crossbar was off-center, making the hole useless without adhesive resin as a workaround. Not a huge deal but it is a support piece to the desk.
