Best Model in the line

By PETER BEDROSIAN

from E Brunswick, NJ

Comments about Sterling by Music Man Ray34CA Classic Active Electric Bass Guitar:

This is my 3rd Sterling by Musicman bass but my 1st Stingray based model. I'v been playing bass 35 years and had played the original Stingrays and Sabre's when they first came out in the late 70"s. This Classic model is just an outstanding replica of the original late 70"s slab body stingrays. From the gloss finish on the neck and fingerboard to the non detented 2 band EQ, it has the feel of a Brand New condition, old Stingray right out of the box. But a 6 bolt neck joint, and the wheel type truss rod adjustment gives it the advantage of the better design Musicman offered. I only wish it came with the Classic Bridge with the string mutes. Be aware that because this is ash slab body it has some weight to it. So if your looking for a featherweight bass....this ain't it. But the sound, feel, playability is all classic Stingray, and if that's what your looking for...this is the bass to get new for well under $700. I got mine as a blemished model, used for $299!!!! from GC Used Gear page. Insane deal. I've owned two SB14's as well and they a a little lighter, smaller, and also excellent pro level instruments. But I am extremely pleased with this bass, and expect to keep it forever.

Great first, intermediate and even lifetime bass

By Steven Keaton

from Villa Hills, KY

Comments about Sterling by Music Man Ray34CA Classic Active Electric Bass Guitar:

This is the fourth bass I have owned and I think it is one of the best available, especially for the price. First of all, it is a beautiful bass, very appealing to the eye. The maple neck is the most beautiful part of the bass. The finish is excellent as well. I went into GC the day after Thanksgiving intending to order a Ray34 in Honeyburst, but saw this Ray34 Classic hanging on the wall. I decided to try it and was pleasantly surprised with the feel, especially the neck and since it is a tad thinner, it was much easier for me to play since I have smaller hands. Just for fun, I even compared it to all the Music Man Classics on the wall as well as the identical looking Music Man, and neither heard nor saw no discernible difference between the Music Man Classics and this Sterling Ray34. Until I played and heard this bass, I imagined the Classic with only bass and treble adjustments and no mid-range, would lack some range of sound. However, it sounds great especially with the pre-amp. The Ray34 ca is a real joy to play. Since I bought this bass, I have played three others just like it and they all have the same feel, fit and finish. I highly recommend that everyone give this bass a try.

Amazing Buy!!

By Gina Hass

from Plymouth, MN

Comments about Sterling by Music Man Ray34CA Classic Active Electric Bass Guitar:

This a great sounding bass. It is my first bass with active pickups and I gotta say at first I was alittle skeptical about the active pickups because they run on a 9v battery, but it all depends on how much you play the bass. Just I would strongly recommend to unplug your bass from the cord after you are done playing or the battery will go dead within a day. On to the sound; I play out of an Acoustic B200H head and an Acoustic B115 cab, when I plugged this bass in, I was blown away as to how clear and crisp the sound was, it sounds amazing when I practice with my band, and they all love the way sounds. All in all, I have no complaints about this bass. You will not regret buying it.

The Real Deal...

By RAYMOND CRAWLEY

from Durham, NC

Comments about Sterling by Music Man Ray34CA Classic Active Electric Bass Guitar:

Just got my new Sterling Ray34CA bass and sure enough, straight out of the box it sounds amazing!..My band members could instantly tell the difference the tonality, the tightness all are so musical. I did my own set up and with a turn here, a slight string height adjustment (for my personal taste)I had an instrument that feels like it was made just for me. The neck is very playable, makes each note on very fret without any noticeable buzzing. I did about a month of research on this bass, reading, and watching You Tube videos. I went to my local GC store to try out a regular Music Man just to get use to the feel of it and hearing it's percussive tonality. Two of my favorite bassists, Louis Johnson and Bernard Edwards used Music Man basses. They both exemplified the styles I liked to hear...Louis' compressed and edgy thumping and Bernard's solid low end smooth two finger grooves. The Ray34CA is very well built and doesn't feel too heavy...I'm able to move around and still play what I need to...Hell, I even enjoy playing it without my amp...For the price, it's a players dream bass....I can go from Chic to Journey to Motown and it handles whatever I need it to do...Thumbs up to the team at Music Man for a super job in design and electronics!

Classic rock without the big price

By Rick Graham

from Swarthmore Pa

Comments about Sterling by Music Man Ray34CA Classic Active Electric Bass Guitar:

I picked up this bass today at my local Guitar Center and I am very pleased. The Sterling has the look, feel and monster tone of it's American made cousin. The neck is thin and fast making it easy to play. The two tone controls let me go from a solid bass thump in the feel of Cliff Williams of AC/DC to the bright sound of Geddy Lee with touching my amp. You want to funk out, this bass can bring it. The color and paint work is great, the bass was set up well and is ready to go right out of the box! I am a working bass player and this the bass I have been looking for to cover all my needs.

BEST BUY EVER

By bob esbenshade

from lancaster, pa

Comments about Sterling by Music Man Ray34CA Classic Active Electric Bass Guitar:

this bass looks, feels, plays, and sounds like it could cost three times as much as it does. get this bass if you can. it is beautiful. i could not tell you what the difference between this classic and the U.S. classic is except for the price. this STERLING RAY 34 CLASSIC is the best sounding MUSIC MAN i have ever played. i really like the way the pick up is voiced and i prefer the bass and treble active over the three actives on most MUSIC MAN basses. it has a great bottom end with lots of snap and growl. i love the maple neck. it has a great feel and the intonation is perfect right out of the box. the three tone burst of the body is beautiful. this bass looks as good as it sounds. i would have to think that this could well be the best "second" brand ever produced. i can honestly say i like it better than my U.S. MUSIC MAN STERLING that cost much, much more. this bass will definately see lots of gigging time, and for the price you can take it anywhere. i might save up to get the cool mint green one too! i want to thank the guys at LANCASTER GUITAR CENTER for helping me get this one. i know they have been hard to come by. did i say this has to be one of the best buys ever?!!
