Comments about Sterling by Music Man John Petrucci Signature Series 6 String Electric Guitar:

I normally play rock and metal, so I typically go with ESP, Schecter or Jackson guitars with active pickups. However, I played the Sterling Majesty in a GC store and was impressed with the tone and playability of the 17" radius neck. I could tell that the guitar would bring out creative material due to how easily i could navigate the neck, so I made the decision to give it a try... but I didn't like the appearance of the Majesty, so I opted for the JP-160.
It came in the mail quickly, but was obvious that it was an open-box because the box was re-taped and the term-bar was missing. GC is doing their best to get me the original Sterling part, but I'm still waiting for it. The rumors are true - if you order from GC online you are likely to get one yanked off a wall at a retail location around the country and shipped to you as new.
That being said, the Sterling plays absolutely amazing. It was set-up near perfect with floating tremolo in tune and everything. It took me about 30-minutes to get past the difference between the metal axes I normally play and adjust to the neck and controls... but once I did I realized that I found my new number one.
The pickups are not as aggressive as active humbuckers, but they're meaty enough. I may drop some Duncan Invaders in at some point, but for now I'm content.
I did steal a whammy from one of my other guitars and the trem is quality. I was extreme with it to see if it held its tune and it absolutely did. The term is sunken into the body so the profile is very low, which translates into low action and great playability.
The pickup toggle is kind of located in the strum path, so if you have an exaggerated motion this might be a problem for you. I play with a lot of palm muting so it's just outside of my path and therefore ergonomically convenient, but I did hit it a couple times - which could be an issue if you intend to use this for live performances.
Overall, I'm very happy with the guitar and would buy it again.

Comments about Sterling by Music Man John Petrucci Signature Series 6 String Electric Guitar:

Great guitar, the setup was the best I have ever received out of the box. Low and zero fret buzz.
Even better than more expensive guitars Ive bought.
The pickup was better than expected, but Im still swapping for Duncans.
Only issue is the hum it sound like theres a single coil in it.
Im taking it to have that corrected the guitar is worth it.
