I was looking for my first 7 string when i happened to cross paths with this guitar. at first glance I couldn't decide what I thought of it. I'm not a huge fan of this body style. The more I looked at it the more it grew on me, and after I played it I was sold. This was the one. The reviews you read online for this guitar are very misleading. They all said the pickups sounded muddy, but people... its a metal guitar, it makes metal music. They seem plenty clear/crunchy to me and everyone I have let play it. If you don't want that buy something else. Everything on this guitar was built solid. Including the trem, no tuning issues at all here. The locking tuners are awesome. I compared this guitar to every other 7 string I could get my hands on, and this was the one i was most comfortable with. The only thing that I wish was different is the frets are a little rough. They just need a good polish then they will be perfect. As far as quality (price excluded) this guitar beats almost every guitar I've played. So, PICK ONE UP! you will not need your receipt because its not going back.

As far as playability the guitar is great. The neck feels very smooth and fast and the frets appear to be more *slippery* than other guitars I've played so you can really dig in and grab notes, it makes vibrato effortless, even on thicker gauge strings. The action is pretty low with nearly no buzz at all. The matte finish doesn't stick and your arm glides over it effortlessly. The guitar feels like silk and has nothing but pros in that regard. Unfortunately they didn't include the screw for the tremolo bar which is a minor detail but a major annoyance. The biggest issue is that bending causes it to go out of tune. It's slight and using the tremolo bar returns it to correct tuning but very frustrating. And last the pickups are weak. Plenty of gain but the tone is terrible, but that's an opinion thing.

Thank you Andrew and Lynn at Guitar Center in Brea, California for the great experience in customer service....i love this guitar from the color to the sound and to how the neck feels especially for some one like me who has large hands. My only worry is the locking tremolo and changing of the strings . I was considering of modifying it to my,own specs by maybe putting a Floyd rose on it as well as changing the strings to D ADDRIIO AND even the pickups to either a TONE ZONE or EVOLUTION. BUT OVERALL I'M SSO GLAD I GOT THIS GUITAR

Comments about Sterling by Music Man John Petrucci JP70 7-String Electric Guitar:

I just picked up this guitar about 3 days ago and love it! I use it in drop A and it works amazing. The neck is one of the best feeling necks Ive ever played. One downside is the low B string doesn't stay in tune as well as the other 6 strings. I havent used the tremolo a lot but when I have its pretty good. Another problem was when I first played it right out of the box one of the springs was vibrating a lot when I would mute the low B string. It was an easy fix and its all good now. The body of the guitar feels amazing. I am using this guitar for mostly Deathcore stuff but it can do a lot more.

Comments about Sterling by Music Man John Petrucci JP70 7-String Electric Guitar:

I've played and also owned my share of 7 string guitars like the Ibanez RG7420 & the RG7421, but i decide to go with the Sterling by Music Man JP70. I play a lot of the Dream Theater music because of my guitar hero Mr.Jon Petrucci. i love this guitar for the simple fact it reminds me of a Ibanez neck but better. The Sterling JP70 is a awesome guitar and worth every dime.

    Wish it was Dark purple

Comments about Sterling by Music Man John Petrucci JP70 7-String Electric Guitar:

This is a very great 7 string, especially for the price and quality ! Two things that I take issue with is the Tremolo set screw that has a nasty habit of falling out and disappearing if you loosen it one turn to many turns, and I wish the color was a Dark metal flake Purple like J.P.s guitars. Other than that the guitar has sonic flexibility with either pickup and the 7th string adds a much needed option for players. I tried 8 string guitars and couldn't get anything other than a fart sound out of the 8th string, 7 is the perfect number for Metal/Progressive and other musical styles! All in all I'm very happy with my purchase of this guitar and plan to buy the JP100, the 6 string version very soon.

    Incredible 7 String guitar

    By BRAD

Comments about Sterling by Music Man John Petrucci JP70 7-String Electric Guitar:

I originally purchased a Ibanez RG8 (8String) but after playing a JP 70 at my local GC, I immediately traded, within the 30 days of purchase, the RG8 for the Sterling JP70 and have been even happier with it than the Ibanez. I'm so impressed with the sonic quality of the guitar and it's non-Floyd Rose locking headstock that ruins guitars IMHO, the Locking tuners are incredible and it stays in tune very well. I'm so impressed by the JP 70 that I plan to purchase a Sterling JP 100 (Blue) 6 string guitar very soon !! This guitar sounds great with either Distortion or Overdriven (those 2 things are mutually exclusive sounds). I use it to play everything from Zeppelin, Deep Purple to Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment.

Can't argue with a John Petrucci

Comments about Sterling by Music Man John Petrucci JP70 7-String Electric Guitar:

I've been dying to get a 7 string, and you can't beat this price. I could not believe the quality. This guitar should should be worth way more. Good thin body, very playable neck, stays in tune regardless of how much the whammy bar is used, and the tone is perfect. If you want to jump in the world of 7 strings, start with this bad boy. You will not be disappointed.

    A winner in my book!

Comments about Sterling by Music Man John Petrucci JP70 7-String Electric Guitar:

Wow what can i say, a 7 string standard floating tremolo guitar that doesn't go out of tune when you use the tremolo! This guitar literally "plays itself". very comfortable D shaped profile neck. The locking tuners work flawlessly. The stock pickups have a nice sound and are okay all around but a new set of some real duncans or dimarzios will make this ax really scream. Very convenient pickup switch location; while playing switching between the two is a piece of cake. As far as the tremolo goes you can dive bomb and pull up on it as much as you want with the correct gauge strings of course. Its not as responsive as a floyd but will stay in tune like one.

Great 7 String At This Price

    By luke moran

Comments about Sterling by Music Man John Petrucci JP70 7-String Electric Guitar:

About 5 years ago I saw a video on youtube of someone playing an Ernie Ball Music Man JP7 and I immediately fell in love with it. So I waited patiently, knowing that Sterling made a JP50 and JP60, for them to make a 7 string model, and they've finally done it. It was worth the wait. I picked one up from my local guitar center after jamming on it for about a half hour (which was incredible) and immediately took it back to my bands practice space and just slayed with it. For $550, it is probably the best 7 string guitar for that price range. The body has a great feel. The cut for your arm is perfect. Its a little on the heavy side, but it doesn't bother me. The neck is fantastic. Its really slim, and the back of it is in a matte like finish so moving around the neck is very easy. The bridge is a new system for me, being a string through, but also a floating bridge. Very unique, but holds tunings well (the guy at GC couldnt find the matching whammy bar so they are going to mail it to me, which is fine because I probably wont use it much anyway). It has locking tuners which I love and they make restringing it (which I did right away with a set of D'addario 10-59's) extremely easy. And finally the stock pickups are surprisingly pretty good. I will most likely be changing them out eventually, probably a CL+LF combo, but for now, they still sound pretty good. The guitar looks and sounds amazing, and in all likelihood, I will buy a second one as my backup.
