This guitar is very light. The neck is very smooth and has a great feel to it. The action is very low. You can get great harmonics out of these dual high-output pickups. There's 24 frets and its very comfortable to play on the higher frets. The bridge always stays in tune and doesn't require you to lock down the strings on the headstock side like a floyd rose. That becomes a pain when you want to use different tuning.

Everyone knows this is not even close to a real MM. I own the OLP Petrucci and the only thing this guitar has over that is quality control from one guitar to the next. After doing a few upgrades to the OLP it plays as good if not better than this one and was half the price of the Sterling. That's including the upgrade costs. This Sterling has a bridge that I would replace as well as the pups. So, it comes down to... is this guitar, after the upgrades that are needed, worth the overall cost? There are far better guitars in this price range that have better parts IMO. I'd even buy the Sterling by MM AX40 over this guitar. Ultimately, I'd apply the money you would spend to the down payment on a real Music Man.

This guitar ROCKS!!

Comments about Sterling by Music Man JP50 John Petrucci Signature Electric Guitar:

LOVE this guitar! You won't be disappointed! Filed frets, quality materials, stunning fit and finish, pick-ups are clean, amazing sustain, trem stays in tune, can't ask for much more than that! Upgraded the strings to nickel coated DR strings which are more geared to my type of music but other than that, this thing is ready to shred out of the box!

Comments about Sterling by Music Man JP50 John Petrucci Signature Electric Guitar:

I picked up this guitar just wanting to "try it out" while i was home on leave, wasnt planning on buying it at all... then i started playing, the neck is magnificent. ive never felt a neck like this for under a grand. it actually has a better neck than my old shilouette in my opinion. the bridge and trem are an awesome match with the locking tuners, i abused it a whole lot doing some "vai" style divebombs and it held its tune perfectly. my one complaint is with the stock pick ups, not quite as hot as i need, so im replaceing them with a set of Evo's that should fix it. otherwise its a great guitar for the price and exceedingly comforitable to play (neck, body, everything)

Excellent Guitar for an affordable price.

Comments about Sterling by Music Man JP50 John Petrucci Signature Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar (Except I chose black, Cherry is not my thing) and I have not looked back on the investment. Having played the more expensive version, I can say that this model comes VERY close, 24 frets that are really accessible and a very light body that won't bother you when playing. The extremely smooth neck is great and its a joy playing it. The sound is very versatile, I can play smooth chordal progressions on jazz arrangements, then get a heavier sound for a metal song.

Extremely Versatile

By Jason

Comments about Sterling by Music Man JP50 John Petrucci Signature Electric Guitar:

I've designated this guitar for all music that requires non-standard tuning (Drop D, 1/2 step, etc.) Because there is no locking system at the nut, it can be tuned accordingly and quickly. This guitar sounds great (I love the way the neck pickup sounds). Changing strings is a breeze, and the feel of this guitar is overall awesome. So, what's keeping it from getting a five-star rating? I don't love where the pick up switch is located. Several times when I've had it selected to the neck position, I would accidentally knock it down to the bridge pickup. And the pickup switch itself, does have a little bit more play to it than I'd like. But that's something that I can overlook. Yes, I would recommend this guitar, but I would play it first to make sure I like it. Personally, I love it, but there are some quirks to it that may make some people want to shop around a bit first.

Happy Birthday Me!

Comments about Sterling by Music Man JP50 John Petrucci Signature Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar for my birthday. I must say this guitar is amazing. Right out of the box i just had to tune it. When i put in the arm for the tremolo, it would fall out but then i realized theres a small allen key hole to tighten the bar so its good. The tremolo works great. Doesnt go out of tune and divebombs sound good. Stock pickups are pretty good. The neck is pretty smooth and fast. Locking tuners were a problem for me for a bit because i didnt know how to use them but now i do. The guitar is prestrung with Ernie Ball Slinkys and theyre really nice. Everything on this guitar is really great. Highly recommend this for JP fans.

DANG WHAT A GUITAR!

By jp50lover

Comments about Sterling by Music Man JP50 John Petrucci Signature Electric Guitar:

The sterling jp50 is hands down the most amazing thing i have ever experienced. This guitar is SO similar to the JP6 its unbelieveable (there is a slight difference, but its insanely hard to tell). I swapped the pickups for a steves special/air norton combo and it just rips. Highly reccomended

Whoa...

By Louis

from Clifton Park, NY

Comments about Sterling by Music Man JP50 John Petrucci Signature Electric Guitar:

*Gasp!* This is easily the greatest guitar I've ever had in my possession. It plays amazing. Its almost as good as the JP6, its just the smaller details such as knobs that make it different. Personally I don't mind those things. This replaced my Les Paul standard. I am 16 years old and I am very picky about guitars. I'm just weird like that. The neck is amazingly fast. My hand is very big and the neck is perfect because its not too thin like an Ibanez neck. The body just conforms to you. The cutout where your arm goes is amazing. Then just to top it off, it has locking tuners! I don't recommend this, but I've seen someone shake the guitar (not mine of course) from the tremolo arm and it still didn't go out of tune! Over all I have no complaints about this guitar. I highly recommend this guitar. Check out my bands videos and my improv video at http://www.youtube.com/user/AllSheWrote123

Comments about Sterling by Music Man JP50 John Petrucci Signature Electric Guitar:

I just bought this guitar two months ago. It can rock, the frets are roomy, and you can shred out on this guitar very well. The pickups are very powerful and sound great. This guitar is better than most guitars in this price range. Im very happy to own this model. Very well done.

wow

By John

Comments about Sterling by Music Man JP50 John Petrucci Signature Electric Guitar:

I played the real thing, and this actually comes close. The neck is smooth and thin. Seems like an ibanez neck. The pickups are hot and full sounding. artificial harmonics and tapped harmonics come out great. it has locking tuners and a floating fender style trem. Stays in tune through heavy abuse. whammy drops and screams sound great. Customer service is great too. GC gave me the wrong bar and sterling by music man sent me a new one. Try one you will be amazed.
