Comments about Sterling by Music Man AX40 Electric Guitar:

its a good guitar for the price. The only thing that sucks is that it doesnt come with the tools to restring your guitar with, since its on the locking tremlo bridge.

Very Nice, for the Price...

By

from Memphis, TN

Comments about Sterling by Music Man AX40 Electric Guitar:

I was looking to buy an EVH Wolfgang or a Peavey Version, but, i did not want to order one "blind" online. So I went multiple Guitar Centers and they NEVER, EVER have an EVH in stock, so my guitar tech suggested I give this guitar a whirl. Boy, and I glad he did, this is very nice guitar. I only have one major concern, the frets are not filed off properly and they wreak havoc on my hands, so I will need to get them filed. Also, this is not a true Floyd Rose, so, i can presume the steel is not high quality, and I will probably be looking to get a new FR soon. The pickups and electronics sound good and i have no plans to replace the pickups, i will save my money for a new FR- when I need one. I would buy this, if you are looking for a nice price point EVH... I did.

Cured my Axis G.A.S.!

By

from Oakland, CA

Comments about Sterling by Music Man AX40 Electric Guitar:

I owned a EBMM Axis before, and was in the market for another one. But, like the previous reviewer, being a new dad, I couldn't really justify the cost. When I went into GC to pick up a spider 15 practice amp (using gift card from wifey), I saw this pinkish (purplish) beauty on the wall and my first thought was that it would be so cute for my lil girl to have! Then I plugged it in and dialed up the metal channel and WHOA! I was channeling my inner Van Halen and getting the tones to match! I really couldn't put it down, it felt just as good as the "real thing". I played it clean, crunchy, bridge pu, neck pu, middle, and just found great tones in every setting. I examined the fit and finish, and was very impressed with this import. No birdseye maple, but everything else was great. Binding is very good, hardly any bleed. Matching headstock with glossy back. Six bolt backplate just like EBMM. Fret edges just a lil rough, but easily filed. Asymmetric neck feels great, floyd stays in tune and I like that it doesn't float. Pickups are hot Dimarzio clones and sound awesome. Great craftsmanship out of Indonesia! Quality is on par with the PRS SE line of import guitars. I was really on the fence until the sales dude told me about the sale $100 off purchase of $499. Then it was like getting the amp for free! Sold! Got a new one out of the box - set up just about perfectly - and threw in a guitar stand! (no gig bag, though but that's ok cause this is my 18 mo old daughter's guitar and it stays at home!) On the other side of the spectrum, I have a PRS Custom 22 which I love for different reasons. But this AX40 seems to be in my hands more often and just is more fun to play. Awesome deal, extremely FUN guitar to play! At this price, you can get an AX40, JP6, and Silo for the price of one EBMM Axis! I would like to hunt down a blue one!

This guitar rocks!

Comments about Sterling by Music Man AX40 Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar after having owned the real ones and now since I am a father on a budget, this guitar was okay for me. I did however file the fret edges and replaced the pickups to Seymour Duncan Hot rodded set of humbuckers. SH-JB4 in the bridge and a Jazz Neck. it sounds incredible. plays well and stays in tune, I beat this thing up. as for the color it is far more a fuschia pink than a purple. So, consider this an amazing guitar for the price that you can upgrade little to none for a great guitar. there are new colors coming out too. so I plan on grabbing another.

Impressive import from Music Man - The AX40 rocks!

By

from San Francisco, CA

Comments about Sterling by Music Man AX40 Electric Guitar:

Walked in to GC to buy a Line 6 Spider 15 with the gift card I got from my wife for Xmas. As usual, I drooled along the wall of guitars, and this purple AX40 instantly caught my eye. I pulled it off the wall, plugged it into the spider and jammed away. It felt great and gave out all the fun tones I would expect on the metal channel. I really liked it and I was on the fence when the salesman told me that I would get a deal if I bought the guitar and amp together. Sold! I asked for a brand new unit in the box. He brought one up and after a quick inspection, the deal was done. After playing it for a week, I can say that it is a solid guitar that is very close to the original EBMM Axis. I have owned an Axis and Axis Super Sport in the past. I have also owned an OLP Axis. This AX40 sits firmly between the two. It doesn't have the birseye maple neck or the Dimarzio pickups of the Axis, but is better made and finished than the OLP. I stretched the strings, tune up, and locked the nut. It's been in tune ever since, even with heavy string bending. I did have to use the fine tuners, but not much. I dive the bar hard, and it returns to pitch. I like that it only dives, this helps keep it in tune. The pickups are generic, but they rock pretty hard. I don't see a need to upgrade. Hardware is good, electronics are solid. I like the pearloid tuning pegs and matching headstock. The only thing I noticed is that the maple fretboard tends to get dirty quickly. It actually looks cool though, and I can see where the majority of my playing is! This guitar was set up well before it was shipped out. Intonation is on, no buzzing, nice low action, pickup height is good. There are no sharp ends on the frets, though I have read about complaints. The quilt veneer top looks pretty good, I can't tell much of a difference from the original Axis finishes. The back has the same body contours and neck pocket of the Axis, as well as the 5 bolt neck attachment. The OLP only had 4 bolts. Regarding the purple color, mine looks more on the pink side. But that's ok because I bought it in the hopes that my one and a half year old daughter will some day decide to learn Eruption! Plus it costs less than the other finishes! I am very satisfied with this product, and if I get out to gig again, I will plug directly into my Mesa Recto and go at it!
