Sterling by Music Man SILO3 Electric Guitar (H98017)
Availability:

A remarkable value with an HSS pickup configuration and tremolo bridge.

The Silo3 is a versatile workhorse that’s easy to play, comfortable, and sounds like a higher-end guitar. The solid hardwood body is attached to the solid maple neck via a Music Man designed 5-bolt neck joint. The neck heel is contoured and rounded over for easy & comfortable access to the higher frets.

The double cutaway, contoured, hardwood body is fully sculpted and shaped for comfort. All sharp edges have been eliminated and you have just the bare essentials you need for a comfortable, solid body shape that never feels awkward.

The asymmetrical cut maple neck is slimmer on the treble side and thicker on the bass side, for effortless movement as you move around the neck. Thick enough for great tone, thin enough for easy playability. The medium-sized fretwire is easy to fret and offers great intonation up & down the neck.

The pickguard is loaded with two high-output single coils and 1 overwound humbucker which have clear bell like tone, but can also shred and emote all the nuances of your playing. A 5-way selector switch is wired to a single volume & tone control.

The vintage-style tremolo bridge has a comfortable area to rest your palm on. The solid saddles offer adjustments for height and intonation.

  • Best Kept Secret

As reviewed by SUSAN KAWALERSKI on 10/11/2013

In a simple phrase: This guitar is the best guitar, by far, of any guitar I have tried under the $1000 price point. The Sterling SUB guitars are said to be Music Man's version of Fender's Squire line. But IMO there is no comparison. The Squire line, at least all that I have tried, may appear to be a pretty good deal, but, I couldn't keep any of them in tune, and, chording up the neck became painfully out of tune past the first fret. It's obvious there is no quality control in China for fret placement on the Squires. But, the Sterling SUBS are phenomenal! The maple neck has a satin finish which compares closely with it's much more expensive Music Man Silouette. It's extremely playable and fast and thin for great lead work. The frets are finished with no ragged edges. The pickups are good, but as with all single coils, the neck and middle PU's produce hum. The humbucker bridge PU is crunchy and handles gain well. The 5-way pickup switch is a great plus with each position actually producing distinctly different tones with PUs in unison or locked in indivudually. The position between the neck and bridge PUs produces a Tele twang that's even more sparkly than a Tele and perfect for Country funk. This one guitar covers all the tones from Country to Blues to Jazz to Rock to Metal. My Tobacco Sunburst is awesome looking. I have to say the white pickguard is the only thing that brings down the total look of this guitar: it's cheesy, plastic. But hey, if that's my only complaint with this guitar, that's nothing! I truly believe that Guitar Center and most large music stores push Fender & Squire over Music Man & Sterling simply because they're more well known brands and Fender probably "encourages" dealers to push their products. However, if you pick up a Music Man (my next guitar will be a MM Albert Lee) or a Sterling, you will be amazed that you didn't know about these guitars sooner.
