The Sterling Audio ST59 is an FET condenser microphone that employs a large capsule with a dual sided ultrathin 3-micron evaporated gold Mylar diaphragm. The ST59 mic is built with an exclusive process that extends high frequencies and improves details and depth on both vocal and instrument recordings. The FET Class-A electronics provide smooth, warm sound. The ST59 offers switch-selectable cardioid, omni-directional, figure-eight polar patterns and is housed in a rugged brass body.
Sterling Audio microphones employ several advanced technologies that separate their large-diaphragm condenser mics from the rest of the pack. One of the more important advances is their Disk Resonator system. With it, Sterling Audio is uniquely able to compensate for the 14kHz frequency roll-off that is inherent in large diaphragm mics. As any good audio engineer knows, this deficiency translates to a lack of sparkle from high-frequency sound sources. Other manufacturers have typically solved this problem by cutting other frequencies and then increasing the entire signal to help even out the frequency range. Unfortunately, this results in increased noise.
Disk Resonator Technology incorporates a brass umbrella that protrudes from the center of the diaphragm in Sterling Audio's ST59 microphone. It gently boosts the diaphragm sensitivity to shorter sound waves, allowing it to respond more accurately to those all-important higher frequencies. The result is optimal sensitivity, full frequency response, and a low signal-to-noise ratio. Another piece of audio wizardry comes in the form of the ultra-thin diaphragm membrane made of Mylar. While most modern condenser diaphragms are 6 to 12 microns in thickness, Sterling Audio, in association with 3M, has produced a highly resilient Mylar that measures a mere 3 microns. This allows the ST59 microphone to deliver an extraordinary degree of sensitivity. Requires phantom power.

I've had this mic since 2009, and I've recorded several albums of my own over the last 15 years and mastered the album for a band signed to a decent record label; so I have a fair amount of experience supporting the following words: this mic is an exceptional value for the price!!! I would not have found it if an engineer had not recommended it to me, mentioning that an engineer he knew has used it for major label recordings (vocals) -- giving it preference at times over very expensive mics. I was curious enough to give it a shot, and I am still amazed at how beautiful it sounds with vocals (and other instruments). Of course, if you have the money for a high-end microphone over a thousand dollars or more, go for the big ones, but if you only have a couple hundred bucks, this is the dream mic. It's competitive in its sound quality with some very expensive mics. In my recordings, I run it through a very simple mic preamp with some basic low-end compressor and that's it; and I use it primarily for vocals. Sterling should seriously be proud of themselves for making something of this quality for such a low price. Well done.
The Sterling Audio ST59 was purchased as a gift for my son, who is studying Music Industry at the Technical High School. He uses this in both the school audio lab and in our home for recording work. When I compare his previous vocal recordings with the new ones using the Sterling mic I am thoroughly impressed with how clean and free from noise are the new recordings. For the price, I do not think you can beat this microphone!
It looks good! oh yeah thats right... I almost forgot IT SOUNDS GREAT! I have various mics and such and the ST59 stands out with its clarity and performance... And the pop filter/shock mount combo!!!! wow i saved some cash!!!!!
