  • ST 44 is awesome

As reviewed by Phillip Westbrook on 2/24/2010

I bought the Sterling Audio ST44 to replace my AKG C1000s as drum overheads(which sucked btw). The ST44s are clean, warm and quiet. What I like about them is the subtle compression the tubes add on cymbal crashes and xtra loud snare hits. The only other overheads I've ever heard that I like more than the ST44s is the mojave audio MA200s (that's why I gave them 4 out of 5 stars). In a typical week I record everything from string quartets to metal and these mics have yet to disappoint. Great stereo immage in XY. Best overheads for the price period.

  • Great Warmth

As reviewed by Matthew Hall on 4/17/2010

I purchased these microphones after one of my workhorse AT 4050's was damaged leaving me with only one mic for stereo recording. I have used the Sterling mic as Drum overheads, Stereo paris for Acoustic Guitar, Percussion. So far I am very pleased over all quality is very high. Was impressed with the quality of the vacum tube, its small but well made. Good transient response, nice hot output, very low self noise.
