Great for home studios

Comments about Steinberg Cubase SE1 Value Added Package:

This software is great for a home studio setup. I use it with a presonus inspire and it sounds great. It can record multiple tracks at once and the interface is user friendly. You will have to know a little bit about audio editing and other audio principles but other than that its a very easy program to use. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Very capable and expandable starter package

Comments about Steinberg Cubase SE1 Value Added Package:

Cubase SE version 1 with the included Virtual Instruments collection has enough capability for anyone who wants to compose or record music, but is readily expandable when you need more instruments or effects. There are a few bugs in the Mac version when running on OSX 10.4, but none which are showstoppers. (e.g. crashes when using Page Setup menu). The user inteface is fairly intuitive, and the feature set is quite large. After using this product for nearly two years, I have yet to use all of its capability. One negative is the score editing mode -- it works, but is very limited. It's much easier to enter notes via MIDI input, or simply using the "piano roll" view. The included Virtual Instruments are stripped-down versions of Steinberg's more expensive standalone instruments, but are still very capable. For example, the Halion SE sample player only allows you to play back built in samples and adjust the filter envelope, whereas the full-on Halion lets you import your own samples and map them across the keyboard. Virtual Guitarist Electric Edition SE has some good riffs. Virtual Bassist is a modeled bass guitar; you can alter pick placement and pickup location. The LM7 drum machine is acceptable, but it only comes with three kits. If those kits don't have the percussion instruments you want, you'll be looking for something else. But, the beauty of Cubase SE is that it is a VST host, and *any* VST-compatible plugin, whether an effect or virtual instrument, will work with Cuabse SE. So, you can start out with a small investment, and add to it as you need. I have been using Cubase SE 1 for two years now, and have added many virtual instruments and effects, both commercial and freeware. It's definitely an excellent low budget entry into computer music, and has a little bit of everything you need to make music right out of the box.

Go ahead and buy it

Comments about Steinberg Cubase SE1 Value Added Package:

I would have given this product a 5 but there are 2 better versions out there. Unlimited Midi Tracks and 48 Audio tracks gives plenty of headroom here. Great for the beginning sound artist. Comes with the VAP which is a great start for a midi newbie or guru. Easy to use, sounds great, even a dummy like me can work around this program
