Sound source is an "impulse sound" based on physical modeling technology. The harmonic spectrum of this sound is based on one of six waveforms and a set of two spectrum filters. The sound can be shaped with a filter (Damping), by adding an offset to the comb filters (Detune), or by adding a noise component (Crackle).
Embracer is a simple but powerful polyphonic synthesizer designed entirely for producing pads and accompaniment sounds. Although this software has got really great out of the box plugins and instruments , to mention a few Loopmash, Reverence, Amp simulator etc, it is still limited in performance area. Other software like Apple logic perform much better over Cubase when compared. Cubase cannot play a .cpr file if you have two reverence plugins loaded. When I contacted steinberg with this issue, they told me VERY CLEARLY that even though my machine is Octo-core mac pro with 10 GB of RAM, Cubase cannot consume all rsources available and is limited in utilizing system resource thus giving low VST performance. Overall I'm satisfied with the product's feature set but highly dissatisfied with the performance.
I love cubase very much. Its much easier to use than some of the other software I previously use. Since i produce electronic music, cubase has the right effects and tools to help me in my productions.
It you are new to Cubase...it may be a little hard to get use to. Anyway, this Cubase is better than before! I use Cubase 4 for years and was very satisfied with it and now, Cubase 5 is even better. The DAW is so smooth... no clicking or hissing sounds ... records crystal clear sound. I'm using it with my Yamaha XS 8 with a Presonus Firebox interface. Even though my Yamaha has everything (sounds and effects), Cubase 5 comes loaded with all the effects and plug-in you need (Reverb,Limiter,Compressor,EQ's,etc...the list goes on). It has to many VST instruments... some I haven't use and yet to sample! The Media Bay is also loaded with sounds. Than you have the final Mixdown Section for C.D. burning (I use WaveLab)... I tried Sonar years ago...it is still cheap! As for Pro Tools, I don't care if they use Pro Tools in the studios...They make you buy their interface and VST instrument to use the software What!!!!????...that's cheap to...I LOVE CUBASE 5!!!...Get Cubase, you'll love it...!
Nothing better! I've been recording professionally for 20+ years and first used Cubase in 1998. Prior to that, it was all 2" tape or ADAT. I actually started on Protools but found Cubase to be more powerful with regards to midi. I still use both, but prefer Cubase and only use Protools if it is required for a project; mostly post production audio. However, when it comes to music creation (my bread and butter), I think I would be lost without Cubase. I write all of my songs in Cubase and would recommend it to anyone.
Even though it utilizes a USB license dongle - insuring single utilization- Guitar Center will not take this program on return: which means you have to be very careful before purchasing this software. Prior to buying, you should visit the forums at the manufacturers website and look through the tons of problems various users have. The Windows version of Cubase 5 is extremely unstable and finicky compared to the other DAWs on the market. It's the only piece of software I've owned in years, that crashes computers on a regular basis. On the other hand, Fruity Loops, Ableton and Reason 4 never crashed my system. I had a specific reason I bought CB5 but if I could, I'd return it. It's so buggy some users actually dual-boot to a clean partition that has only the OS and Cubase on it. When it works, however, it IS an awesome program.
I have use Cubase since SX3 Cubase 4 Now Cubase 5, great software i`m impresed of what i can do now, loopmash is so fun to use, the variaudio feature is so fantastic and very useful, and Reverence is like heaven!! i feel like i`m in love with this software!
I have 20 years experience with steinberg software. while cubase and wavelab are more or less stable (more less). that is not the beef i'm having with them. their customer support is non existent,or to be more precise is a complete joke !!! I purchased cubase 5 in november of 2010,only to find out that a couple weeks later they released cubase 6. at the time there was no indication about a new release on their website. i even contacted their customer support,nobody mentioned the upcoming release!!?? I would have waited a couple weeks to get the new one. So i went ahead and purchased cubase 5. Now they are telling me,because i'm 4 weeks !!! of their grace period for a free upgrade,i have to pay full price for it !!!! I don't know about you,but this is total BS. I will never consider Steinberg products again in the future(with customer care like this,i don't think they'll have one anyway). Take it from someone that has been there: If you're looking for recording software,steer clear of steinberg. You've been warned
