The first thing that attracted me to this guitar was just the way it looked. The surf green color and lipstick tube pickups made me drool. Then, I began playing it and the action was really low, but had minimal fret buzz! For a neck with 9.5? radius, I was shocked at how smooth it played. Over two months, I would come to the guitar center in Orange County, CA and it would call to me every time. I gave in and bought it and it wasn?t even expensive. I?m just lucky no one else bought it before me because it was the only one like it there for months. The Duncan Designed pickups aren?t going to make metal heads or hard rockers too interested, but it can add a nice flavor to most anything. Cleans are where this shines, because it?s clear and articulate with the lipstick tube sounds. The only bad thing I notice was how some of the electronics were setup. The ground wire wasn?t screwed down all the way; it was loose and may create electronic buzzing in some cases, though I never heard any. I screwed it down and the problem was solved. Second, and most frustrating, is that the neck pickup had short screws when the other two had long screws. This means the neck pickup is forced to be high and way too close to the strings. If I adjusted it only a little it would fall off and into the pick guard. Very annoying! I solved it by keeping barely screwed in but just enough so it stays in place and luckily it is at a reasonable height and level with the other two pickups. If that didn?t work then I would have to talk to someone at GC or contact Seymour Duncan and ask for the long version. Other than that, I am in love with this guitar. It plays really well, looks beautiful, and sounds really good no matter what style you play.
The quality of the craftsmanship, components, and finish on this guitar is quite impressive. The lipstick pickups sound great in any position and would be suitable for any style of music. Setting up the guitar was easy and this guitar looks good and is comfortable to play. I could have spent much more on another guitar and not been any happier than I am with this Squier Surfcaster. I have bought, played and sold many, many guitars. This one is a keeper!
Well its a great guitar. I got it for christmas as a present from my parents. I love the guitar the bridge is a typical fender bridge it doesnt stay in tune well when using the whammy but its fine for me, the pickups are very sweet for clean, crunch, and metal tones. I play just about every type of music with my band and this guitar is what i use..... if anyones talks bad about this guitar just play it for yourself all i can say, i love it you may love it or like it just your feel. Just cehck it out!
This is a great guitar i play all different kinds of guitars i have a nice size collection and i bought this one around christmas time and its a sweet guitar. The pickups actually put off a great blues tone, if you play in the bride pickup you will get a cool twangy sound and basically if you have ever had a strat in your life you will know that you can play anything with this guitar and it just puts off a great sound and hope the one you buy you feel the same about because its a great guitar.
I was looking for a good electric guitar. I am a novice and just starting to learn how to play. I ask for advice at my local Guitar Center. I didn't know one guitar from another. I explained my situation to the sales person. They went above and beyond what I expected. With the advice I recieved, I purchased this guitar and an amplifier. I am very well satisfied with everything I purchased and with the help I recieved. Excellent Service, Independence, Missouri Guitar Center. Thank You.
This is a very nice guitar for the price. Vintage tuner's, tinted maple neck and rosewood fret board. Very hard to find American Standard Strat color choices along with a high end pick guard are the absolute best thing about this axe. I have the surf green and am considering getting a sonic blue one. They're absolutely beauitful, Fit and finish is as good as any brand new American Standard case I've ever had the pleasure of opening. I like the basswood body, very resonate, light and easy on the back. This is a serious bang for the buck axe. After a good setup it plays as well as any American Standard I have. I would say this is the perfect entry level guitar because it did play as well as the American counter parts. I got mine because of the surf green color and as the basis for a project guitar. I think the Duncan Designed logos on the pickup covers detract from the overall beauty of the guitar. I think the pickups are weak and thin sounding by themselves. I will rebuild the pick guard using SD Hot, Vintage and Cool Rails pickups. I want a surf green strat with a maple finger board so I will swap out the neck. I feel so lucky to have gotten a condition 1 return, I did not understand why it came back, was near perfect the way it was. The mods I am making are ones that I want to make and not because they need to be made. There are many like it but this one is mine. I talked about my mods to this axe and I wanted to show you the result. Fender locking tuners, a new MM2925 neck, Seymour Duncan Hot, Vintage, Cool rails pick guard and well, at least we still have the body check it out...
I'll start out by saying that I never take the time to write a review on a purchase I have made. Since this guitar is relatively and short on reviews I thought I would add my 2 cents. Being the owner of several les pauls and was looking for a MIM strat to add to the collection. After playing several MIM's I was unimpressed. The rosewood necks seemed dry and the frets were insanely high. I decided that I would save up some coin and buy the real deal. As I was leaving the squier surf caught my eye. I plugged it in and couldn't believe the sound it was crankin out. from blues to hard rock this thing can get it. I was sold within 5 min. I would give it a 5 star but I picked up the surf green version and it was a little sloppy. Pretty good gap between neck and body and was in need of a proper set up. That being said, the candy apple I purchased was well crafted and perfectly set up. If you play one and dont like the feel, grab another. You might get lucky and find a diamond in the rough. Either way, you would have a hard time finding a better guitar for the money.
I was at my local GC yesterday getting a new amp, when I happened to try this model out. Right away I was impressed with not only the sound, but also the quality of the build of this guitar as well. The Lipstick pickups on this sounds phenominal and can handle anything thrown at them from Blues to Metal . It stays in tune and the neck on it , is a breeze to play . If I had the cash on me yesterday, I would've walked out of the store with it. I'll have to work on my wife and see if I can sweet talk her into getting me this to add to my arsenal . I got to have it, I really do !
I ordered mine on-line in Surf Green. It looked beautiful on-line and the price seemed right. The guitar is even more beautiful in person. Be aware though that everyone's sites describe the product incorrectly. The fretboard is rosewood, not maple. With that said, I have never seen a nicer looking and feeling neck. The vintage stain on the neck is to die for. The fret work rivals that of any Fender I have played. The pickups are bright, but a little tone adjustment with the volume knob helps to control that. There were some loose screws and I had to lower the action, but for the price, it is hard to beat.
