Bought it used based on playing it and my great GC "go to guys" pointing it out to me. It called to me and played great. In all respects that everyone else mentions it's great. I have 2 Martins Valued at 10 times this guitar, so I kinda like nice guitars. For two bills...what's not to like. It's made in Indonesia and either Agathis or Basswood. Please don't value guitars by the name badge or specifications. My GC crew encourages to find the best guitar for me! I never thought I would own a Squire, but when you play a lot of guitars in the store and the Vintage Modified or Classic Vibe calls.....

P.S. I like the pick-guard, but have not seen many like this on a Black. Maybe it's an after-market?

The frets themselves were not a deal-breaker, as I could have had a fret polish and setup done for about 70 bucks here at a local shop-- and I did consider that because there were a lot of things to like about this guitar. The Duncan designed pickups are probably the quietest (in terms of noise) I have ever played in a Strat. But they also were the problem for me. If you go to the Squier website and watch the video of this guitar, the one I was shipped sounded -exactly- like that, so there's something to be said for consistency.

I'll put it this way: If Stevie Ray spank is what you're after, you will like this guitar. If Trower silk is your aim, you probably won't. It's a pretty bright sounding guitar, even for a Strat.

I sent mine back and got a Classic Vibe 60s, which is a much better guitar -for me-. Much smoother frets and smooth vintage tone with the CV.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This was my first electric guitar, I first got it cause it looks like John frusciantes main strat, pickups are nice and a bit hot, good tuners all out nice guitar. But the fret buzz just killed me,input jack was loose so tighten the input jack and have it setup then your good to go. Oh and I recommend having the trem bridge floating but that's up to you.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I had my eye on one of these for quite some time but was hesitant to pull the trigger because I figured for the price it can't be that great, despite all of the positive reviews. Well. I'm here to tell you that all of the reviews were correct. This is a true Strat with all the quack and chime you'd expect. Of course, being an import guitar for not much money there are some things to be aware of. The pickup switch seems to be a little flimsy and probably won't stand up to a tremendous amount of abuse. The trem block is rather small and cheap metal. The pots are probably on the low end of the quality scale as well, but they all work, and I don't abuse my gear, so none of that bothers me. And besides, for the price, with the money you save an upgrade of these components is certainly doable. The neck feels great. Fit and finish are solid. Frets are well done. The Duncan Designed SC-101 pickups are alnico V's. They sound great with all five positions offering up the expected Stratty tones. The tuners are the vintage style slot/hole type which I must admit I've grown rather fond of. Tremolo bridge is the Vintage Synchronized, not my favorite but I never use it anyway so it doesn't really matter. Fender seems to be big on making their new guitars with the BIG 70's style headstock. I'm not a huge fan, but it's certainly not a deal breaker. This series is probably a step down from the Classic Vibe series as far as the overall specs, basswood body in lieu of alder, Duncan Designed p/u's instead of the Toneriders (or whatever those awesome pickups in the CV series are). But you're also only paying two thirds the price and still getting a really good Strat. And besides, I'd compare the CV's favorably to American Special, or even Standard Strats. These VM's I would say remind me of the earlier MIM Fender guitars. Even now, I'd still probably opt for a VM over a MIM because the MIM Standards all come with ceramic pickups. Overall I'm extremely happy with this guitar.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Aside from the name "Squire" on the headstock, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this guitar. I am perfectly happy with the playability and sound for my purposes! Using it for all local gigs and it works as well as my (over-priced) Robert Cray signature Strat in all respects. If I want to upgrade the pick-ups, I'll simply stick a Texas Heat set of pickups on and rock out, but right now it's just fine. Why spend the money for a regular Strat when these guitars are available at these prices? Bragging rights perhaps? Get over your ego and buy a Squire - you'll never look back! By the way, the setup was fine right out of the box! A set of Doug Gilmore strings and away we go!

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar on a whim based upon the rave reviews and great tone in Youtube videos. But I wasn't prepared for how good a guitar I'd be getting. This thing is amazing! Super low action, fast slinky neck, perfect fretwork, superb sounding Duncan Designed pickups, great fit and finish, glossy tinted neck, and vintage style tuners and trem that stay perfectly in tune, as long as you don't try to do wild dive bombs. I've owned American, Japanese, Mexican, Korean, Chinese, and now Indonesian Strats over the years, and this is one of the 3 or 4 best of all of them. If you can't afford a Mexican or American made Strat, this guitar will not disappoint. Incredible instrument for such a low price. Kudos to Fender for offering superb instruments at every price point. And great service, as always, from Musician's Friend. Super fast free shipping, to top it all off.

Squire by Fender Vintage Modified Strat is a super guitar . . .

        By FREDRICK FAZZIO

        from Hawley , PA

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Worth every penny. After a setup of action and relief of neck, then a tightening of the input jack socket, I have to say this guitar is excellent. The neck is silky smooth, the electronics are great and the duncan pickups are super. (I also adjusted pickup heights.) It sounds and plays like any good strat I have ever played. I had an 80's MIJ Fender Strat, a 90's American Standard, an 80's American and a 2000 ish MIM standard strat. This Squire Vintage Modified Strat compares very well to the above mentioned Strats. The fit and finish are excellent. This guitar would have received 5 stars from me if the setup was better. The tremolo saddles were all over the place and the neck needed a truss rod adjustment. EZ fix and tweaks to get a value guitar to play like a much more expensive guitar. Played an Affinity Strat with maple neck/fretboard and sunburst finish at the local GC. What a difference in quality, even before a setup on the Vintage Modified Strat. The affinity's neck and frets were terrible. The frets protruded to the point of light cuts and mild pain . . . :( It literally felt like a sawzall blade was ripping at your hand. Also the gloss neck finish is silky smooth. An awesome guitar for a beginner or a pro. Something good will come of this instrument...

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I was apprehensive about buying a guitar at this price level, but after receiving and reviewing the guitar before presenting it to my 10 yr. old daughter for Christmas, I was very happy with the
quality, feel and sound. The fretboard was a little dry and sticky on bends in some spots, but
my daughter is not going to be bending strings much for a while, so no big deal. The guitar looks great, and seems to be solidly constructed. No sign of poor craftsmanship on this one. When
plugged into a Peavey Backstage 30 or my Fender Deville 2/12 the pick ups sound good. Like a Fender Strat. There isn't great distinction in
sound between combinations of 5 way switch, but there is some, and this is a beginners guitar. All in All, this is
a Great Product for the Price, and I would recommend to anyone looking for an entry level electric, to buy it.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have owned 2 American made Strats, and each one I had to spend a lot more to get them playable. The same can be said about Gibson and Epiphone Les Pauls. I have a Classic Vibe 60's Strat, an Austin Strat and a Jay Turser Strat. All of which were almost perfectly set up. A few adjustments here and there. Awesome guitars. I recently purchased a Vintage Modified Strat, and I love it, too. I've been playing for 26 years. A small truss rod adjustment is all it took to make it cry, whisper and scream. I will never spend huge amounts on a guitar again. A professional player should be able to make any guitar sing. It is a guitar fit for any level of player.

            By Liam Shevlin

            from Jacksonville FL

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

The best Squier I've played! I just got this guitar today and i haven't been able to put it down. I haven't played in awhile and sold all my guitars when money got tight. I was looking for a cheaper guitar to start picking it back up again and have owned a Squier before and was a little weary when buying this one but it is absolutely amazing. The neck is so smooth and fast. The sound is awesome for a $250 guitar. You can go from playing chords to making it scream in an instant. The weight is perfect. I owned a Les Paul and the weight just bogged me down, but not this Strat. I have been playing for hours with no back pain. It's a remarkable guitar for the price!
