Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass PJ:

Hi All. I'm a 34-year guitar hobbyist who wanted to learn some bass, so picked this up for the price, look and feel. It's very light and sounded good in the store. Very nice neck, good bridge (though a couple of my bridge screws were over-tightened and bore out, so I had to fill holes and re-set.) I ordered the sunburst online. It had some loose stuff in the cavity shaking around, but worked fine. After a week or so, the neck pickup stopped working. I planned on upgrading the pickups anyway, so removed the pickguard and found a free-floating red wire and some BB-sized solder pellets. I'm not sure to what they went, because it was a disconnected white wire that caused the pup failure. So, knowing I'd voided my warranty with novice tinkering, I bought a Fender brown tortoise shell guard, Custom P-Bass pup and Noiseless J-Bass pup, then had the tech replace the middle volume with a blender knob. Also put on some LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass flatwounds. Now she's quite killer, but if you're keeping score, I added a few hundred bucks to the total cost. Still a tad cheaper than the step-up Mexican Fender basses, but there are lots of other better basses in that next price level, the LTD B-4E comes to mind. One last note, the Squire is too small for the Fender hard case I bought for her, so needs some cloth padding on the sides.

    Unbelievable quality for this price!

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass PJ:

Great playing and sounding bass. Typical PJ...the neck P pickup is louder than the bridge J pickup. But blending the two gives a lot more tone options over a regular P bass. The neck feels great, and the bass is very light. I was amazed at the quality of the build on this bass. I was prepared to do a lot of setup work when it arrived, but did not have to adjust anything. Nut, string height (including radius), and intonation were perfect. The neck was totally straight with no buzz, and the fret ends were all smooth and prepped, no file needed. The quality you can get in a bass for under $300 these days is amazing.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass PJ:

I wanted an inexpensive, yet beautiful PJ bass and hoed that this fit the bill. The first one that I ordered sounded great, played well, but had a 5 inch crack in the top.

A replacement was ordered, it arrived with 2 cracks around the neck pocket.

I have not given up, I ordered a 3rd... The 77 Vintsge Modified in 3 Tone Sunburst.

I loved the tone and look just not impressed with the quality control.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass PJ:

About 2 years ago I had been looking for a bass to start learning and practicing with. I carefully sifted through the ones on this website to see which one I'd prefer the most. I ended up going with this one in sunburst and it's been a great choice. Playing on precision pickups give a nice sound almost like a professional bass depending on how good your technique is. The jazz pickup sounds punchy and gives decent tone, not as great as the other one but gives you an idea on how a jazz bass sounds when you start learning. it's a good pj configuration for beginners and you're hearing two different types of sound, how awesome is that for someone starting to pick up a bass! Eventually the high G string gave me fret buzz but at that point I already knew how to adjust the saddle and found that's what was causing it. All in all though this is a great bass and I would never go back on this

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass PJ:

i got mine a few days ago and this bass is awesome. I usually just use the precision pickup for my rock band but the jazz pickup gives a nice tone for playing other styles like jazz and funk. With both pickups all the way up it sounds almost identical to a j bass but fatter. I'd really recommend this one to j bass players who use both pickups cause it sounds better than the j bass. Not sold on playing just the j pickup as it is not as powerful as the ones they put in the J basses. the j pickup is a bit of a cheapie in my opinion but i'll leave it cause im more of a precision guy and rarely use it. If you wanna get that jaco tone id recommend upgrading the j pickup. pulling one out from squire vm j bass should do the trick. then you'd really have the best of both worlds. for the price this bass is a steal

Great bass guitar for the money. High end models sell for 5 times as much. This instrument gives you 90% of the feel and sound of the more expensive units. Is that last 10% worth all that extra cost?

          Great Sounding Bass!

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass PJ:

I have been reading and looking for this bass for over a month before it was released at the store. I was on the mailing list when the bass was available. I visited 3 local stores and none of them have arrived. I took a chance and ordered it from online. It arrived in 4 days. Beautiful looking bass! I also purchased Ampeg BA108 to go with this and this bass is just outstanding with this amp. I took bass to my local store for minor adjustment and to check the setup, nothing major could have done myself. The PJ combination gives the bass a deep rich sound or you can play the Jazz pickup or just Precision. I am very happy with this purchase and you will love it too.
