Yes it's true I Was Very put off by the way it handled, however I have never owned such a tempermental out of the box guitar in all of my life. Bad ones, yes;however, this guitar is Simply Tempermental and Once the adjustments are made as far as stabilizing the bridge and putting a set of New Saddles on it
The guitar Is Possibly The Finest, sweetest playing and sounding instrument I've owned.
Get past the initial phase and you may just be knocked out. I Am!!

Welp.. It is a squier

The neck is noticeably thinner and the bridge can go out of wack if you whammy a little too hard a little too often but for the price it's a nice cheap little guitar.

Surf Rock To Punk Rock! Great Value!

By Michael Roberts

from Los Angeles CA

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Guitar:

I purchased the 3-Tone Sunburst from Guitar Center a week ago. I am an experienced guitar player and own several high end Custom Shop and lower end guitars. For the price tag, this Squire Jag is a great deal. I honestly was not expecting the quality of this guitar. The wood looks very nice and has lots of character. The tuning machines seem like higher end tuners. I have seen cheaper tuning machines on other guitars priced the same. The pickups are great! I wouldn't say they are hot as what you would find on an American Jag, but they are nice sounding and you can pull off the Surf guitar tone very well. You may want to raise them a bit. All and all the pickups are great. They don't have a lot of bottom. This is a great surf guitar and a guitar to add textures such as the guitar player from The Killers, or the Edge from U2. That's what this guitar can pull off. You may read out there that people complain that there is a buzz on the bridge. This is because the guitar is not setup properly. You need to raise the action and adjust the truss rod on these. Also, since it's a shorter scale, you will want heavier gauge strings with this guitar. I recommend 11's. If you have buzz on some strings on the bridge, then raise the action. The tension needs to be right. My Jag has 0 buzz and 100% tone. For the price tag, this is a great guitar!

Great Jag at a great price

By David

from Los Angeles

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar as a cheap replacement for the official fender jaguar I had stolen a few years ago. I have to admit I wasn't expecting much as I have always preferred fender over squire due to the belief that squire would somehow sound of lower quality. I have to say I was really surprised by this one. Not only does it have the same look and feel of my old fender but it actually sounds better in my opinion. It is sounds very similar to my fender jazz master which I love. I was also surmised that mine did not require the set up that most guitars need right out of the box. All that was needed was a quick tuning and it was ready to go. The only small problem is that the guitar does fall somewhat out of tune during long play, but this actually normal for this guitar.. (My fender jag and jazz master did that too.) If you are thinking about getting one of these or are on the fence, go ahead and take the chance with this one. You will be surprised.

No Better Value for the Price

By Michael

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Guitar:

Got this guitar a couple of weeks ago and was simply blown away. A friend of mine used one during a gig I attended and the sound of his was amazing so I figured for the money what the heck, Glad I went ahead and made the buy! The guitar has tremendous range and will easily give you the sound you want whether it is blues, rock or some serious surf sound. I have some other more expensive Fenders but this one is my new go to guitar. Went with the surf green just cause and the fit and finish of the guitar was way better than expected for the price. Overall, this one is a no brainer, buy the guitar!

Rockin' Good For the Price

By Gavin Ehringer

from Langley WA

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Guitar:

Okay, let me start by saying I play instro surf guitar and have owned all the off-set waist models - Jazzmasters and Jaguars - those Made in America, Made In Mexico, and Made in Japan. This cheap Indo knockoff stacks up well to all of 'em. It has great tone and the essential Jaguar surf sound. For the price, it's a steal. Some things that suck: it falls out of tune and the strings jump off the bridge saddle barrels - a problem with many Jags and Jazzmasters. Replace the saddles with those from a Mustang. The thick urethane neck paint is slow and sticky. I plan to replace the neck with a custom job. But, hey, it's just $300!

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Guitar:

when I went to guitar center I wasn't really looking for this specific jaguar, I originally had my eyes on the 65' jaguar by fender because I couldn't afford my dream kurt cobain signature fender jaguar. ive wanted a jaguar for about 2 years and couldn't afford the 65' jaguar at the time, but I was greatly amazed by this squire jag! it has all the same tone switches and everything and provides me with a clean crisp tone (most of the time) and hard hitting distortion which was exactly what I was looking for when it came to the sound I want, and would sound even better with some foot pedals too! Ive only had two problems with this guitar having a bit of a fret buzz hence the (most of the time) but I realized it was coming from the strings coming off their saddles on the bridge of the guitar while I play, but is a cheap fix if you buy a mustang bridge to replace the jaguars, and this is also a problem because I play with heavy hands, so other softer players may not have this problem. over all, this is a great guitar for every sound and it surely wont disappoint any player!

    A jaguar....with some serious work.

    By PHIL RUSSO

    from south shore, NJ

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Guitar:

I bought a Squire Surf Green Jaguar. I bought this guitar with the intentions of doing some serious modifications, so all I was really concerned with was the finish. I looked it over quickly in the store, to be clear my guitar was delivered to the store, so a sales associate and myself un boxed it. I checked it over and all seemed good. I took it home and immediately ripped it COMPLETELY apart. Over the next two weeks I changed/ modified this guitar to make it much closer to my vintage Jags. I will say this--had I not taken it apart, there would have been some serious problems!! 1. The bridge pickup's springs had cut the wires pretty severely, and it would have shorted in no time. 2. there were tons of blems on the body and especially the headstock. There are places the body wasn't shaped and or sanded correctly, and it was left and painted over, and there was a lot of cross grain scratching under the finish on the headstock. 3. There were loose wires inside the guitar, and short loose cut pieces of wire left in it under the pickguard and volume and tone control plate. 4.The foam and or springs under the pickups was a joke and you could NOT adjust the pickups properly. 5.The pickguard was cut poorly, especially around the control plate for the switches!!!! 6. The chrome plating is....OK but not great. I too it completely apart, shielded the body recesses with copper tape, joined the cavities and ran a wire to the tremolo plate. I put better ( minicell) foam under each pickup so proper adjustment could be made. I replaced the tremolo and tremolo arm with AVRI Fender parts. Installed a aged tip on the trem arm. ( I wanted better chrome, better quality parts, and a working tremolo lock) I replaced the pickguard with an AVRI tortoise shell. I drilled the hole for the spring and plunger, and installed a Fender Jaguar Mute. The pickup covers were replaced with AVRI aged covers. I also had to replace two pickup screws as two of the 4 were stripped out right out of the box.....QC anyone???? I shimmed the neck, (for the mute, and to lower action) and replaced the squire neck plate with a repro Fender "F" stamped plate. The headstock was sanded and painted with Fender Surf Green Paint, and a original 1965ish Fender Jaguar decal was used to finish it off, after I put on 20 uber light mist coats of clear nitro over the paint and decal--it was block sanded flat, rubbed out and then polished to a high gloss. I put thread lock on ALL of the bridge height screws and the two grub screws for the bridge height. I had to replace wire for the bridge pickup, with the original being damaged in the factory at assembly.. I replaced the Volume and tone pots to Fender spec. I wet sanded off the squire made in Indonesia off of the back of the headstock!!!! I did all of this work because I bought it knowing I was going to be doing so. A real surf green jag hovers around the 10,000 mark these days! I did not expect so much poor quality in the build....Frankly had I seen some of the blemishes before I really started tearing it apart, I probably would have sent it back for another one... But being rather hands of with guitars and amps I just went about the build. I feel the end result is fantastic, other than the truss rod adjustment being at the nut and the walnut stripe on the back of the neck it really looks like a vintage jag. It plays great and sounds great-after my work to it I am very happy with it, but not happy with the overall build quality. Initial reviews were good, and I think the first batches of guitars were good. I had to wait a while to get my jag, and I think they rushed to meet demand... If you are not handy, can not properly repair a guitar, I would say buy a classic player or a AVRI jag-if you can find a used Japanese model go for that-but stay away from Squire---the quality is not consistent, and this guitar could leave you aggravated with "headaches" and problems. On the other hand if your like me and bought it to build a cheap custom guitar---then by all means this is the one you want--and it's better quality than the older Japanese made models.

    Surprising fit and finish

    By Richard Celia

    from Livonia, MI

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Guitar:

Okay, I am a nube, but as a mechanic and possesing other skills, I can recognize how well a piece is assembled. The fit and finish are remarkable for a guitar at this price. I am pursuing the Surf sound so the Jag was my choice. When I picked it up, I asked the Guitar Center Sales guy to check it out for me and see how it was set up. He gave a it tuning and blasted out some Doobie Bros. So, out of the box for a new guy, I am pretty happy. Switching the pickups gives a variety of tones and I think it will be a while before, if ever, I outgrow this. Maybe the pros will disagree, but they are not looking at a $300.00 piece either. Very pleased with my purchase.

Pretty decent guitar.. I'm not a professional, all I can give is a opinion from someone who is still learning an instrument. Solid guitar, I would recommend to anyone who is just starting out but wants the feel of the legendary Fender Jag. Has some fret buzz, and the pick ups probably could be better, for the most part I would say your mostly paying for the look of the guitar. Overall it's decent. Can't really complain.

    Good Guitar Couple of Problems

    By Josh

    from Beaufort, SC

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Guitar:

I received this jaguar in Olympic white as a gift. First off the finish is beautiful the guitar is all around amazing, great sound and play-ability. Only a couple of personal issues with dexterity, and pick up switching, and a problem with the bridge. My issues were, since I'm left handed, the trem was in the way. The switching is a little if-fy with the roller switches and I would suggest doing a switch blade. The bridge saddles leaves a little to be desired, with shallow cut ridges, BUT this can be fixed simply by replacing the saddle piece and saddles with one from a mustang which has a deeper ridge cut. Hope this was helpful.

    Good value

    By J

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Guitar:

I ordered the surf green and unboxed it at the store. For the money this required little adjustment, plenty surprised. The finish was good, the neck needed no adjustment, frets not bad cheese grater-wise. I broke the high E after about 10 minutes (9-42 gauge), which is common with Jags I've learned depending on string height etc. As they were cheap looking I replaced them anyway with D'Addarios and it was still OK after a couple of weeks. I was also worried about the bridge, but I play on the subtle side so no worries there of jumping strings, but still may drop a Mustang bridge in. Minus: A bit of hum as I'm sure the cavity construction and electronics are low-end, but again 300 bucks. So, only thing other than strings was I lightly sanded back of the neck as that is my preference. For the money I like it. Good sound and all electronics and switching works properly. I do not regret this purchase.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Guitar:

Absolutely in love with the Jaguar. Super comfortable/contoured body, very solidly put together, fascinating array of controls gives you a million tones you can get from just 1 instrument. Only downside, as any Jaguar/Jazzmaster owner will tell you, this awful bridge with buzzing saddles and strings that pop out of their little grooves all the time. That's a quick fix though, either by dropping in a Mustang bridge or bolting on a $30 buzz stop. Overall, my favorite guitar I've ever owned!
