I bought this at my local GC after an unsuccessful hunt for an electric guitar. It was just sitting there for demo. At that point the only Jaguar Basses I knew of where actual Fender models or the Troy Sanders signature. I plugged this thing into an Ampeg 20W and wow. I used to not care for active anything in an instrument. I am a changed man. With the active features there is No. Buzz. At. All I play mostly everything but country & classical and it does the job and some. This thing puts out that rounded, versatile sound through the entire P/J pickup configuration. While the Jazz pickup puts out that sweet, articulate sound, and at the same time the Precision pickup captures that deep, throaty, guttural growl that makes a P-bass so loved. The neck is basically a Jazz neck, fits to the pocket of my hand like it was made for me(I play bottle-neck style). I can honestly say if you find the price to steep; you're either genuinely cannot afford it, or you need to loosen the choke-hold on your wallet, because I fell like I got this for a steal at retail. Only "con" is no case/gig bag. But if you getting it at your local Guitar Center, they sell those too, it's not like your buying a Fender custom shop, It's a Squier, let's be real.

In conclusion. Amazing Bass! Actually looking into the 5-string model for my low end work. Again. Wow. Just Wow.

Cheers.

Beautiful bass, from the pictures. I found this bass at a Guitar Center but didn't like the starburst color. The I went online and found the Crimson Red and ordered it. That was before Xmas. This specific color is backordered. Mine may be on its way in the next week, we'll see. Guitar Center is doing their best and has compensated me for the delay. There is nothing on the online purchase telling you the item you want is backordered. Unless the item you want is at the store you want it shipped to, do not assume you'll get it quickly. The other items I purchased went straight to the store within 1 week, it's just the backordered bass. Can't wait to play it.

Excellent Bass and Excellent Price

By Geo

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar Special:

I play electric and acoustic guitar for 5 years now and recently been playing bass for a 1 1/2 years. I was looking for a bass that was not that heavy, because I had a old Squire p bass that weight a ton, lol. I sold that and bought me the jaguar bass, from reviews I read. I played the bass at guitar center and fell in love it it. The tone is amazing, and it's really light. The neck felt smooth. I definitely recommend this bass and get the warranty for it too.

Great bass, not just for the money

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar Special:

I have a MIA Jazz from '79, a MIM Jazz deluxe, and have owned Gibsons in the past, and this is quite possibly my new favorite to play. I was turned off by the active controls since I lean more towards passive setups, but I gotta say I don't mind this feature now that I own the guitar - I like the tonal variety it gives! You can get a thinner sound to a fat, thumpy sound that is booming. The action and neck on mine were okay, but after a few of my own adjustments this thing plays like butter now! The sound is impressive beyond belief for the price of this, and anything double or even triple it's price tag - hell, this sounds better than some $1000 Gibson's and is right on par with my vintage American Jazz. It's just so smooth sounding. Highlight recommended to anyone and everyone, from beginners to pros!

    I love my Jag!

    By JAMES BARNETT

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar Special:

This is by far the best bass for the money for any brand I've ever owned and I've had about a million basses. I have an obsession with getting new basses and I know I will keep this one for as long as my hands can play. The Crimson Transparent Red is 100% the prettiest color in my opinion. Now, down to brass tacks. The action was a little high when I opened it but adjusted beautifully with little effort. It has one small rough spot about the size of a pea on the neck where it needed a touch with some 200 grit sand paper but was easy to remedy. The tone is awesome! If you want to have a Precision or Jazz sound plus amazing low end. Someone else had mentioned the "J" buzzes which is true but not noticeable in the studio. This bass is an instant collector piece. -JM

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar Special:

I was in the market for a new bass. I did some research then went in to Hess some for myself, and to put my hands on them.... wow! The Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass was it for me! I was comparing it to other guitars arrive the same budget like the sterling Sub 4, epiphone thunderbird, even the other Squier P/ J bases that are out. What shines out to me is the active preamp circuit in this one. It has a killer sound and is very versatile, you can get a ton of different tones out of it, so if you're playing jazz, or blues, or rock, or grunge, or some kind of funky something in between this bass can handle it.
I like the retro shape of it too, in a sea of p basses and ibanez body style bases out there this one is unique. I encourage you to at least try it. I loved it so I took one home.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar Special:

This is an amazing bass. I would buy it for my second, third, fourth, and so on as a bass. I purchased it a few days ago, and although I am a beginner, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a quality bass. I can reach the notes easily, even though I am 5'2". The tone is amazing. You can play from jazz all the way to heavy metal. If you are a beginner, I recommend this bass.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar Special:

This is the first bass I have owned, and after reading a lot of reviews, I went with this one, in 3-color sunburst. Out of the box, the strings (as always) were awful, so I switched those out. The factory setup was poor; a lot of fret buzz, the pickups weren't the proper height, etc. Nothing horrible, and a couple minutes of work to set it up, it sounds better, except for a slight string buzz as the nut is off. But, for the price you can't really complain. There is a bit of a nick near the jack, but it's out of sight, so not worth the effort or hassle to exchange the bass.

Overall, as a new bass player, this is a great sounding bass. It plays very easily and nicely, and the added bass boost really packs a punch. For the price, you cannot beat this bass.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar Special:

This is my second bass, and what an excellent decision! First off, it is beautiful (i bought the black one), its sounds great and has an amazing tone range. Even though its an Squire it asks nothing to a top line Fender. Great choice for beginning-intermediate players and an excellent option for medium sized gigs. I havnt recorded with it but you can check my band at facebook... search for Les Moustaches

This is an amazing bass for the price. The quality and fit and finish is surprisingly good. It is my gigging instrument of choice. My band hosts a blues jam and we get many talented players coming to play. Many of those have played this bass and are completely surprised at how well it plays and how good it sounds. The only thing I changed was to put flat-wound strings on it. I have other basses that cost much more, but this one stands on its own.

As a beginner, I am on a steep learning curve, and read all the reviews before I went to the Guitar Center to play one. I loved the feel of the Jazz Bass neck they use on the Squire Vintage Jaguar. I was a little leary about the comments regarding setup, so I spoke the guys at the Commack NY Guitar Center and they ensured me that they would check it out and make sure it was playable before I took it home. When I came back to buy, even though it was a busy Friday afternoon Beau and Steve checked out the guitar, brought it to the technicians for a look. Thanks! I had a great weekend playing this thing. I would recommend it to anyone.

          This Bass is a GO

          By Adam Brinks

          from Savannah, Georgia

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar Special:

I bought the Squier VM Jaguar Bass Special for 3 reasons: 1) VERY affordable. 2) Pickup combination and boost circuit (active). 3) Transparent red finish and Jaguar body (my wife picked it out for me). I was very pleased by the condition of the bass right out of the box. I liked the fit and finish very much, and the bass is very light (the lightest of 8 basses I currently own). No damage or quality issues to report. Right from the box, the setup was playable but not to my liking. I had to lower the action and intonate it; I replaced the stock strings with DR High Beams, and WOW! This bass plays and sounds incredible and can be adjusted to sound like either a P bass, J bass or an awesome combination of both. Add some boost from the active circuitry and the bottom end fills out very nicely even with medium/light gauge strings. I'm not happy with 2 things about this bass though: 1) The balance is not great - the bass is a little headstock heavy and will drop if I let go the neck. 2) The active boost works great on the E and A strings, but thins out on the D and G strings. Overall this is a great bass for the money. Quality and sound are above average for a bass this affordable, it sounds and plays excellently; plenty of presence and tone. Hats off to Squier again for another quality bass guitar. Worth the money - check it out!

just bought a black one yesterday. got it all setup tonight to my liking. for 200 bucks this is an amazing bass. plays very well and the pickups are strong considering that i bought a squier. for the lesser components it has compared to higher end basses this thing performs so well. i layed down a bass track with it and it came out nice and punchy. the volume it put out was great. i can't wait to play it more and see what i can do with it.

          By Alan Sams

          from Richmond, VA

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar Special:

I've been playing bass for 27 years. I currently play in a very active band and I had been playing a SR300, but I was growing unhappy with the challenges of getting the sound out of it that I like. Was at Guitar Center today with the idea of trading my SR300 for a P-bass... Instead Seth my GC sales guy talked me into playing the P/J Jag bass. For the money I cant believe the tone that I get out of this thing. Seth lowered the action for me and adjusted the P-bass pickup and I'm gig ready. *Bonus I caught it on sale with a trade in. I'm not crazy about the bridge, so I'll be putting a heavier bridge on it in a couple of weeks and the stock strings are not the type that I usually play... those are the only two negatives out of a ton of positive.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar Special:

Yes! This is bass that amazing! I've been playing bass for a little over 20 years now, and I've played high end basses from Ken Smith, MTD, and Fender. Nothing, Nothing has come close to the tone of this bass. I went looking for an expensive bass to buy at GC. When I saw this bass, I chuckled because it just looked funny to me, and I figured the tone would make me laugh. At the very first pluck of the string, without any adjustment on the EQ, I was blown away! I couldn't believe it was this cheap of a price and sounded so amazing! Get this bass! Get it! Take it from a guy who's been playing for a long time. Yes, I bought the bass and have made it my primary bass. Don't let the looks fool you. If they do, just plug it in. You'll see what I'm talking about.

I was never a fan of squier guitars but after i played this bass at guitar center, I was amazed by the sound ! I needed a bass that I could achieve a jazz sound and a good rock sound, with the jazz bass and precision bass pickups, I got the soung i was looking for ! With its smooth nech and popy jazz soung, you can achieve some great jazz basslines, and you can grab a pick and play some punk rock songs. This bass also has great look ! I ordered it online in 3 tone sunburst and should expect this afternoon. I recomend this bass to anyone.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar Special:

Well I will say right off the bat, for the price tis bass is a steal. It's worth the money. But it isn't great right out of the box. I had to have my action set up on mine. When I first got it, if i played below the 12 fret it would buzz like crazy. So you'll def want to put that extra into it to have it professionaly set-up with new strings. Anyways, it sounds great ! I love having the option of switching between jazz and precision pickups. I play many different genres of music so I needed a bass the was flexable. Its also very smooth, I can slide up and down the neck with ease. The only complaint I have is the weight, its a bit heavey wich i dont mind but its un-even. The is always wanting to fall but its just something you have to get used too.
