Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Precision Bass:

I checked this bass out at a local Portland, Oregon music store. One of the sales persons who knew me and my preference asked me to try this bass. At first I noticed how light it was, especially for a Precision. Then I plugged it in and started playing it - it did not take very long to get sucked into this bass. The round-wound strings along with the pickup and light resonant body gave this bass guitar a personality of it's own. I read the other reviews for this bass and somebody mentioned that you never put round wound strings on a fretless bass, well... that is a personal preference. I've always put round wound strings on ALL of my fretless basses, a decision I have never regretted and love the sound and vibe that I get, besides the Ebonol fingerboard can handle just about anything you can throw at it. Anyway, to sum it up: this bass - it's a great bass at a reasonable price, but don't treat it like a normal Precision because it's not. It beckons and calls for new and uncharted sonic territory.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Precision Bass:

First fretless bass I have purchased, I was not disappointed. I own several other guitars including a six-string bass, but this Squier is by far the most fun to play. Maybe the neatest aspect is the warm natural fuzz you get when the pad of your fingertip partially mutes the string. But despite the fingertip effect, the instrument has great sustain and a sharp crisp sound. Sliding without the frets' annoying perfect pitch syndrome is awesome, but be careful-- I find myself wanting to overdo. Guitar center shipped it to my home, so there was no store setup. Easily done, though. Just a slight truss rod loosening (to get a little of the bow out of the neck) and a fine adjustment to the bridge made this one easy to play with minimum effort. Intonation is not so precise as a fretted bass would be, so learning to put your fingers right on top of the fret "reminders" takes time. Well done, Squier!

Great bass if you're not sure if you want a fretless.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Precision Bass:

For years i've been wanting a fretless bass, so I finally did it, but I didn't want to spent a lot of money incase I got sick of fretless. However, i've been more than happy with the bass. I will say that one thing I didn't like was the strings. I switched to D'Addario ECB81 XL Chromes Flatwound Bass Strings, and the sound improved dramatically. All in all, great purchase if you want a fretless, but not know if it's for you. I'm playing it all the time now, even more than my normal fretted bass.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Precision Bass:

One of the only Fender family of basses that played really well out of the box. Only negative is the lousy round wound strings. Someone at Fender should know by now that you don't use round wound strings on fretless instruments. Other than that, I was amazed at the sound, the playability, and the fit and finish of this bass. I did just a very minor lowering of the strings to suit my style of playing and have used it in 4 live performances without a problem.

This bass is a reall kick in the butt to play. The neck is incredibly smooth, the action did need a little adjustment out of the box, but is really a fun bass to play. It just oozes that schmawwww sound !!!
