When the guitar first arrived I took it out of the package and noticed two layers of plastic. The first one was easy to peel off however the second one took about 15 minutes to do so. The guitar overall has a great luck if you get the antique burst finish. Perfectly polished. However I noticed some crooked screws holding the pick guard to the guitar body. When I first started playing the guitar I noticed some fret buzzing. It was annoying at first but I soon got used to it. The guitar has a great deep brassier sound then my old Squier Strat affinity series guitar. I would highly recommend this guitar for novice to intermediate guitar players looking to find a good quality guitar for a good price. Being an intermediate level player, this was an excellent purchase. Also, I spent five dollars extra to get the guitar in 3 to 5 business days. This was an excellent decision because the guitar came and no later than 2 1/2 to 3 days by UPS. As my final verdict I'm giving this guitar a 3.8 to a 4.2 out of five stars.

Good Guitar

By Mike

from Walker, La.

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar three years ago and haven't had any problems. I reserched this guitar before buying it. My squier looks and sounds great. Every thing works on it,including both tones. It's in the cherry sunburst finish and it has an alder body. The neck is also good, the only thing I would change on the neck is I'd make it a little thicker. I love this guitar and plan on keeping it. Again it has not giving me any problems with sound, tuning,or hardware.I,ll leave in the gigbag for over a week, take it out and do some minor tuning and I'm good to go. This has been a great guitar for me and well worth the money. So over all great for rock & roll, blues, country and pop,but not for grung, heavy metal ect. Because of the single coil pickups.

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Got the guitar for my birthday and hooked it up to my amp and was amazed that it sounded just like a Fender. It's light and has a nice clean tone. I play all over the place with it and it hasnt let me down yet. Perfect for beginers and experianced players.

...of calling this Squier Guitar a "SQUIER." It plays exactly like a Fender. I have a P-Bass too, and I can't tell the difference between the Fenders and the Squiers, except for when I'm looking at the headstock...It's wonderful.

Affordable, good sounding, great lookin' guitar!

By loveguitar13579

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar a couple years ago, although mine is a champagne goldish color rather than the red one above, but let me say, this guitar has held up amazing! Anyone who says Squiers are too cheap to be good is either lying or doesn't know the first thing about guitars. This guitar has a pretty fine sound, and the only work I ever had to have done on it was when it slipped from my grasp and hit my metal bed frame, but nothing has ever broken on its own. My only problem is that the low E string, and the A sting rattle when you pick them, unless you pick lightly, but that is a very recent thing. This guitar fits comfortably on my thigh, and since this guitar is relatively lightweight, so you can carry it around in a case, or on a strap, no problem If you are in the market for a beginners guitar, or just an inexpensive one, go for this one, they look good and are built even better. Fender makes great guitars, and this one is no different, it may say SQUIER on the headstock, but its all Fender. (if you're also lookin for a good beginners amp, check out the 15 watt Squier one, it sounds good for the amount it costs.)

Great Buy!!!

By Matt

from Philadelphia, PA

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this squier standard stratocaster. It is great! I think you get more than what you payed for. The specs are the exact same as the Fender Standard Stratocaster. The only differences are the tuners and the body.(Fenders are made of alder, this guitar is made out of agathis.) There is really no difference. I am not new to guitar, so I know how to play, what to look for in a guitar, and how to set it up. The pickups can play from the light soft blues tone to the HEAVY CRUNCH ROCK TONE. I am really impressed with Squier . It is a Squier, but it was made by Fender and designed by Fender. The tremolo won't go out of tune when I use it like others have said. Maybe I got a lucky one. Sometimes you get lucky ones, sometimes you don't. So I would suggest to go to Guitar Center and try it out first. And if you get a bad one through shipping, then send it back and ask for another one. I don't do gigs, but I would recommend it to anyone who would. Or just have it as a backup. It is very reliable if used in a gig. It is very tough, and all the original parts still work. The strings don't randomly snap. The fingerboard feels wonderful in maple. It is really fast and the fingerboard is skinny to.(1.65 inches) I personally like it because I don't have big hands and it fits well. The tone knobs work fine. Everything just great! Tuners are fine. Nicely dressed frets. Nice 5 way switch feature for the 3 pickups. Overall, BUY IT!!! Great for beginners to intermediates. Expert players should have enough money to buy a real Fender or whatever their tastes like. Just don't think that just because the other Squier guitars aren't so good that this one is the same. You pay more than the others and just buy it. You won't be dissapointed.

Great Guitar

By Viper84

from Miami, FL

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

A lot of people complain about this guitar getting out of tune. Only time I experienced this was when I first got it. After a bit of playing that problem went away. Also, and I hate to say it, but putting some nut grease on the nut of the guitar should help as well. But it's a great guitar none the less, I love it.

The best least expensive electric guitar. PERIOD!

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought the red one with the maple neck. This guitar has 22 frets not 21 like the made in Mexico Fenders. It also has the good two point tremolo not the poorly engineered 6 screw like the others. I love the maple fret board the rosewood one is too porous and slows you down. It also has the better agathis body not the easily dented bass wood body on the other Squiers. It has the better machine heads as well. Pickups sound great and has great hardware. You will have to set the guitar up properly to your liking and change the strings. I put on a locking DiMarzio strap right away so I don't have any falling accidents. THIS GUITAR IS THE BEST KEPT SECRET FROM FENDER BY FAR!!! You'll have to order one because they are always sold out but trust me this is a keeper at an extremely affordable price. :o)

Excellent Guitar

By Michael C.

from West Warwick, RI

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

First let me state, I actually bought the standard version listed here and not the bullet or affinity like some of these reviewers. This guitar is excellent for beginners and leisure players. The solid agathis body is warm and well made (mine was only 2 piece). The fretboard is solid and held on well. The hardware is chromoly from what I can tell and is sturdy and easily interchangeable. The people who are complaining about stuff coming lose and eventually not holding in are just overtightening and srripping the wood. The guitar holds tune well and needs only minor adjustments maybe once a month. The sound is excellent, and clean, the frets are set up nicely. I do recommend getting a professional setup just because you should on any guitar. The pickups are nice, not top notch, but will get you through. Guitar is sturdy and durable and can be gigged with ease. Don't let the elitist lie to you. This is an excellent guitar for the price and is not cheaply made. For those of us who aren't professionals or wanna-be professionals, this guitar can't be beat.

Great Guitar!!!!

By Jeff

from Rhode Island

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Plays like a real Strat. Just a few tuning problems, other than that it works great with blues rock. Everytime you switch the pickup switch it's a new guitar. I use this guitar for hard rock rythm. The pickups can't handle the leads I want them to. But that's me, they may for you. I've had it for 2 years, still works great, still holds up. It was my first guitar yet it is still one of my main guitars. A great buy.

Horrible

By Michael Kleiman

from Bala Cynwyd, PA

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This was my first electric guitar. At that time, I was to short to play the Gibsons, so I had to choose a fender. I didn't have much money, so I looked at the 3 cheapest ones, and coulnd't tell the difference. I chose this one becuase it was the one I had picked up. I liked it at first, but as I played more I began to realize that 1. it had absolutely no sustain for pull offs. 2. The electronics were horrible. 3. the high E string would occasionally pop out of its place on the neck. I recently bought a Les paul 100 by epiphone, and in 5 minutes I loved it. Don't buy the Squier, get a better quality guitar!

Pretty Good

By Hmm

from Undisclosed

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Pretty much the most basic guitar you can find on the market for beginners. It may be cheap but its lasted me for the first five years of my guitar playing career and its still going strong. There is really nothing that stands out with this guitar except for the fact that you will be replacing it with something better eventually. Bottom: Beginners should go with this if their trust fund is a bit untruthful. Otherwise, its a pretty good, if not basic guitar.

Good guitar for the money.

By Michael Gallagher

from Denver, Colorado

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have been playing strats since the '70's. Before I pick on some of the reviews, let me simply state. When you hit the "Standard", you have a guitar that is worth working with. I don't own it. I played two at GC and went over them closely. Sounded way better than the cheap ceramic pickups on anybody's level down (Affinity, etc.) Unlike the beginners who jumped to switching pickups out, etc., I will gladly work with single coils until the day I go jam with Jimi and Jerry. On to reviewer errore.. Some posted reviews for the wrong guitar. They don't have the Standard, they have the Affinity. Big difference. Beginners - it's a Strat, not a play-it-yourself hammer-on machine. It's a longer scale guitar. Builds "character". And so on. O.K. Tuning - don't float your bridge. Tighten springs/add, to return to block, but still able to whammy. Squier China is building better guitars than it used to. The finish/final work on the two was better than the price point. I would not hesitate to walk into gigs with any of their good guitars. And my Mexican Strat is really nothing to write home about. Rather have a good Squier. And I own American Fender, but I'll play a Teisco. I will be shopping for one and will gig with it to prove that it is worthy. I bet I don't have to do much at all to get it road ready. The two I checked out were dialed in. I don't work for GC. I'm a Fender fan, and the Stratocaster has magic hidden in it that a lot of guitars don't. I take a single coil or the most original noiseless (humbucking - sometimes you need noiseless pickups) and then get my sound from the amp and my pedals. And it sounds insane. So, give this one a fair shot and ignore comments from people who don't really know what they're talking about in that they call something bad that isn't - it is just their lack of knowledge. And for that matter, if you're a beginner, you're way better off with the Standard than and Affinity of Bullet. It is really a good guitar for the price. So guess what. Now I'm off to shop for one to do an objective review. I think this guitar and Squier's effort to improve the quality of Chinese guitars is worth it. I don't need to be a guitar snob. I can play a string tub.

Great guitar for the price

By pidgeyhome

from Plainsboro, NJ

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

The Squier Standard Strat is a very decent beginners guitar for the price. However if you are really a beginner it'd be better to buy one of those Strat Packs instead, that include and amp, strap, cable, etc. That said, let's move on to the review. This guitar is pretty well built, nothing top notch or custom of course, but all the same it's durable, comfortable, and looks good. The design is just a standard stratocaster type style, simple and cool. The neck is also comfortable for playing. There are three single coil pickups, they sound great. The sound overall is not that of a pricey Gibson of course, but if you buy this guitar most likely you're not looking for that sort of tone. Overall, this gutiar is perfect for the beginner or as a gift to someone who wishes to start playing. For the price, it has great sound, durability, and is comfortable. When you're a beginner it's better to get a better amp than a better guitar. A very expensive guitar will sound bad, if your amp is bad. Vice versa, a cheap but decent guitar like this Squier will sound stellar on a good amp. That said, if you're a beginner at guitar I'd recommend you look for a better amp first rather than a better guitar. Just buy one of these as a "stepping stone" guitar and you'll appreciate the better guitars a lot more.

Squier Strat

By LZZL9

from Mcallen, Texas

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about 5 months ago and i loved it, it has a very fast playability and a smooth and clean tone. When i put it on overdrive it was amazing and surprisingly good. Even though Squier has a reputation of bad quality it really kicked out with this guitar, and also stays in tune very well, the only thing Iwould change in this guitar are the stock strings (obviously), and the bridge pickup, I used the Seymour Duncan SCR-1 Cool Rails. I would recommend this guitar for everyone from beginners to intermediate players.

Good guitar,But....

By A7X4LIFE

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This was my first guitar that i had ever gotten. It is a very good guitar, but... the guitar is always coming out of tune. Almost every time i play it i have to tune it. I don't know, but when i went down to my local guitar center in Concord, Ca [great store by the way] the guy fixed the bridge a little bit, it doesn't come untuned as much, but still I have to tune it more than i would like to. So, overal, if you arn't a perfectionest or anything, and you are going for a guitar that you won't get boared of really easly, and that has a nice clasic Fender look, than this is a great guitar for you and I would absolutly recomend this guitar to you

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I got to GC today looking for a Telecaster. I was set on the Blonde Standard Squier, and right as I was about to check out my dad showed me this. I sat down, hooked into a Line 6 Spider 3 amp and played Crossroads, Layla, Soulshine, Cat Scratch Fever, Psychosocial, you get the idea. It had the perfect tone for any genre. I played it for an hour and a half. We got it for a deal too. It came with a cherry sunburst STAIN, the first ive ever seen on a squier. I rate it 11 out of 5

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

all because its cheap and it says "squire" on it, doesn't mean it "sucks" i've had this for 2 years. nothing is wrong with it. if people tell you it sucks because of the price. dont listin. if you somehow sanded the "squire" logo off and put "fender" people would not know the difference.

how can you go wrong!!!

By 1990

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Ok... had some strats in the past and sold them. Recently it was a MIM. After rolling with a Ibanez RG for a while, I got the itch for some bluesy single coil. Found a special edition squier standard (cherry sunburst) at a local GC and loved it. Off the rack it played wonderfully. Action was great and it threw "that strat tone". It will need some tweeks via a pro setup,, but for the price I paid (big sale) I feel like I stole it. I could harly put it down. The craftsmanship and look is top notch. The special edition is breath taking color wise. Wood grain visible due to the light lacquer used. Itۡs an alder body with a 2 point trem. After some playing around with the tuning.. its holding pretty good with medium vibrato. The strings are trashed obviously (9's) and are too light and will be upgraded.. but overall people.. this is great. The controls and pu selector feel a litte flimsy..but thats a cheap upgrade if need be. Very surprsied with the pu's. They are very quiet and handle gain with no problem. But clean.. it oozes that strat tone I have always wanted..

I Love this guitar - Great value

By The Old Man Down the Street

from Metairie, LA

Comments about Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have a Fender Standard Strat with a rosewood neck. I originally bought my Squier Standard Strat as a backup. Got the 3 tone Sunburst finish with maple neck. I bought mine before the recent upgrade that Squire made to their Standard Series (I bought the Squier Standard Telecaster recently and the hardware and overall quality seems to have been upgraded as promised). My older Squier Standard Strat's hardware's not my Fender Strat's quality but it still looks great and plays fine - the proof's in the sound and playability. That's why I considered Squier when I shopped for my Tele. Adjusted the intonation and they both play and sound sweet. I'm considering the Squier Strat Bullet Special as "knock around"/backup but I suspect I'd like it too much for any real abuse.
