I bought this squier standard stratocaster. It is great! I think you get more than what you payed for. The specs are the exact same as the Fender Standard Stratocaster. The only differences are the tuners and the body.(Fenders are made of alder, this guitar is made out of agathis.) There is really no difference. I am not new to guitar, so I know how to play, what to look for in a guitar, and how to set it up. The pickups can play from the light soft blues tone to the HEAVY CRUNCH ROCK TONE. I am really impressed with Squier . It is a Squier, but it was made by Fender and designed by Fender. The tremolo won't go out of tune when I use it like others have said. Maybe I got a lucky one. Sometimes you get lucky ones, sometimes you don't. So I would suggest to go to Guitar Center and try it out first. And if you get a bad one through shipping, then send it back and ask for another one. I don't do gigs, but I would recommend it to anyone who would. Or just have it as a backup. It is very reliable if used in a gig. It is very tough, and all the original parts still work. The strings don't randomly snap. The fingerboard feels wonderful in maple. It is really fast and the fingerboard is skinny to.(1.65 inches) I personally like it because I don't have big hands and it fits well. The tone knobs work fine. Everything just great! Tuners are fine. Nicely dressed frets. Nice 5 way switch feature for the 3 pickups. Overall, BUY IT!!! Great for beginners to intermediates. Expert players should have enough money to buy a real Fender or whatever their tastes like. Just don't think that just because the other Squier guitars aren't so good that this one is the same. You pay more than the others and just buy it. You won't be dissapointed.

I've owned this guitar for a while and I think it's the worst guitar I've ever owned. I purchased it as a back up and I can't stand it! I own several guitars and this is by far my worse one. First off, the pickups are terrible and when I play with a fairly high amount of distortion, I can't make out a single note with multiple strings vibrating! Second, the neck is horrible. I've adjusted the action over and and over and no matter what, it buzzes all over the place! Third the parts on it are just absolute junk. Also, I have fairly large hands, so when I get to the top few frets, I have to squish my fingers together to play a simple chord! Take my advice and buy an Epiphone Les Paul Special 2 for a bit less. It is a much nicer guitar for the price.!

Cant Beat it

By Reece Bartron

from Topeka, Ks

Ive been playing for about 4 years and in groups for about 1 of those years, and i get so many compliments on how good this guitar sounds and looks. I got mine in the vintage sunburst, and the sunburst looks orange in the pic, but in reality its a dark and beautiful red. It has alcino pickups, which are very good for a guitar this price. I play Blues Rock mostly, but sometimes i like to shred and this strat can do both. The only real complaints i have are that the jack is kinda loose, so you will have to go tighten it with a ratchet, and when you use the whammy a lot, the G string will go out of tune, but other than that, its the best guitar i own.

Squier Stratocaster Standard

By Matthew Berkowitz

from Chicago,IL

I bought mine from GuitarCenter Online. Yes it was even a used model,& it's great. People generally write favorable reviews about Squiers for the simple fact that they can play very well, sound great, and are accessible at a very modest price.Mine came packaged very thoughtfully and simply needed an overhaul/setup.It does what I want and looks & feels like what I need.GuitarCenter always helps a lot. It's a great guitar.

Fantastic Guitar

By Reece Bartron

from Topeka, Ks

I bought this instrument, because i wanted a strat, and didnt want to pay big bucks for a Fender Standard. I went to my local Fender dealer, and saw this beauty. I fell in love at first sight. The antique Sunburst has a red tint, which i prefer to the normal orange sunburst. And it sounds Amazing, especially in the 2nd switch position. Its great for blues. I play it on a fender mustang III amp, which sounds great too. I would totally reccomend this to anyone, at any skill level.

Great Guitar For A Mere Pittance !

By Jeffrey Osgood

from Woonsocket, R.I.

I just got a used Cherryburst model with a rosewood fretboard and the only thing that it needed, was a new volume pot. So, I just ended up putting in a all new set of Fender 250K Pots in it and it was ready to go. With the 250s, it has more of a Classic Vibe to it ( Pun not in tended ! ) . Before, the stock 500K pots had a much more Trebly tone to it which I didn't like. Now,it's just as good as any Fender MIM Standard IMO. It stays in tune quite well and is quite versatile enabling me to play any style from Blues to Metal . Some of my friends say I should get a Fender Strat Waterslide headstock decal for the headstock, but heck, I'm not ashamed to admit that I own, play, and enjoy my Squier Standard Strat!!!!

I have been playing many years and I hapened by my local music store and saw this squier hanging on the wall.I was trying out mim strat beside her so I figuered what the heck. The neck on this guitar felt so good I could not put it down. The frets were not sharp the neck did not have dead spots or buzz. I play blues classic rock .I am heavy handed but this guitar stayed in tune P.S. go easy on whammy it is just for looks.Heres the bad news pups are weak sound ok but weak.I will change out pups with good Pick ups then I will walk in a gig and watch everyones faces when i sic my new dog on them ... looks like a puppy but when I am done with upgrades it will be a big dog and I will still have money in my pocket.

Good guitar for the money.

By Michael Gallagher

from Denver, Colorado

I have been playing strats since the '70's. Before I pick on some of the reviews, let me simply state. When you hit the "Standard", you have a guitar that is worth working with. I don't own it. I played two at GC and went over them closely. Sounded way better than the cheap ceramic pickups on anybody's level down (Affinity, etc.) Unlike the beginners who jumped to switching pickups out, etc., I will gladly work with single coils until the day I go jam with Jimi and Jerry. On to reviewer errore.. Some posted reviews for the wrong guitar. They don't have the Standard, they have the Affinity. Big difference. Beginners - it's a Strat, not a play-it-yourself hammer-on machine. It's a longer scale guitar. Builds "character". And so on. O.K. Tuning - don't float your bridge. Tighten springs/add, to return to block, but still able to whammy. Squier China is building better guitars than it used to. The finish/final work on the two was better than the price point. I would not hesitate to walk into gigs with any of their good guitars. And my Mexican Strat is really nothing to write home about. Rather have a good Squier. And I own American Fender, but I'll play a Teisco. I will be shopping for one and will gig with it to prove that it is worthy. I bet I don't have to do much at all to get it road ready. The two I checked out were dialed in. I don't work for GC. I'm a Fender fan, and the Stratocaster has magic hidden in it that a lot of guitars don't. I take a single coil or the most original noiseless (humbucking - sometimes you need noiseless pickups) and then get my sound from the amp and my pedals. And it sounds insane. So, give this one a fair shot and ignore comments from people who don't really know what they're talking about in that they call something bad that isn't - it is just their lack of knowledge. And for that matter, if you're a beginner, you're way better off with the Standard than and Affinity of Bullet. It is really a good guitar for the price. So guess what. Now I'm off to shop for one to do an objective review. I think this guitar and Squier's effort to improve the quality of Chinese guitars is worth it. I don't need to be a guitar snob. I can play a string tub.

how can you go wrong!!!

By 1990

from Spokane, WA

Ok... had some strats in the past and sold them. Recently it was a MIM. After rolling with a Ibanez RG for a while, I got the itch for some bluesy single coil. Found a special edition squier standard (cherry sunburst) at a local GC and loved it. Off the rack it played wonderfully. Action was great and it threw "that strat tone". It will need some tweeks via a pro setup,, but for the price I paid (big sale) I feel like I stole it. I could harly put it down. The craftsmanship and look is top notch. The special edition is breath taking color wise. Wood grain visible due to the light lacquer used. Itۡs an alder body with a 2 point trem. After some playing around with the tuning.. its holding pretty good with medium vibrato. The strings are trashed obviously (9's) and are too light and will be upgraded.. but overall people.. this is great. The controls and pu selector feel a litte flimsy..but thats a cheap upgrade if need be. Very surprsied with the pu's. They are very quiet and handle gain with no problem. But clean.. it oozes that strat tone I have always wanted..
