Comments about Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster Electric Guitar:

Amazing tone, playability and action. Just so you know where my opinion is coming from, I usually play Gibson guitars with humbuckers, and I prefer thin necks. I had a telecaster a few years ago with single coils that I thought sounded too thin, and the neck felt like a baseball bat. I was looking for a little more variety in my tone, and I love J Mascis, My Bloddy Valentine, etc., and the sounds they would get from their Jazzmasters. I am totally in love with this guitar. The neck is a good radius. I wouldn't call it thin, but it's super playable for me, and I'm pretty picky. I didn't like the gold pick guard and picked up a mint-colored one that looks great. I'm not sold on the bridge pickup, but I like the neck pickup a lot, and the lead tone circuit switch is amazing! It has a pretty dramatic change in tone, and I find myself using it more the more I play it. I'm really sold on these single coil pickups too. I said before I wasn't sure about the bridge pickup, but there is so much more clarity with these than with humbuckers. Single notes ring out so much brighter, and solos sound fantastic (relative to who is playing them, of course). The action on the guitar is great. I couldn't be happier, and got exactly what I was hoping for and more.

Comments about Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster Electric Guitar:

All in all it is really a great deal for the price. It's a good rock guitar. Throw some effects and it will shine. I had to return one that was new on the box because the pickup selector had a lil trouble. But the other one that i recieved came solid. That why i'm only giving 4 stars.

Comments about Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster Electric Guitar:

This was my very first Jazzmaster. I've had this guitar for about four years now, and I've gotten a handful of (real) Jazzmasters since then. The over all vibe of this guitar is excellent. The gold pickguard really looks neat with the cream body. The electronics are pretty poor, and the pickups are straight up P-90's that sound absolutely nothing like Jazzmaster pickups. This isn't a bad thing, though. I just prefer a true Jazzmaster sound, so I've since replaced the pickups with Seymour Duncan Antiquity i's, replaced the pots with 250k Fender pots, and replaced the 3-way toggle switch, as it was giving out on me. Unfortunately, I also had to replace the pickguard due to a "mishap" a couple years ago that caused the input jack to be bent beyond repair. But that was my fault, and was an easy fix! This guitar has been my safe place for any gig or recording situation in the past four years. Since I've owned it, I've taken it all over the country with me on various tours with various groups. This is honestly a guitar that I know I can always count on it. The neck feels absolutely perfect and the huge frets just make me feel right at home. I should mention that the vibrato functions flawlessly and the Tune-O-Matic style bridge solves just about every problem that the original Jazzmaster bridges create! This guitar has taken quite a bit of abuse, but has never failed me completely. It never asks too much from me, even when I'm having to piece it back together mid-show due to some silly tomfoolery of mine. Buy one and love it!! Take it everywhere and don't be ashamed that such a great instrument says "Squier" on the headstock!

Comments about Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster Electric Guitar:

I've been playing guitar for a solid 3-4 years and after a quick boost of cash, I decided it was about time for me to finally upgrade from my starter guitar. Coincidentally, the day I picked this bad boy up from GC, I ended up jamming with a bassist fried for a couple hours and playing this baby was fantastic. The satin neck is so unique and plays like a dream. Even if you're thinking you don't like this guitar, if you see it you NEED to try it out.

An added plus was the fact that it was hanging in my local GC for long enough that it was on clearance for $100 off.

Comments about Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster Electric Guitar:

First off be forewarned. THESE ARE NOT JAZZMASTER PICKUPS. If that is the sound you are searching for you will need to look elsewhere in the Fender catalog. These are P90 pickups (a bar magnet) under a jazzmaster pickup cover. There is nothing wrong with that, if you like P90s. I do. But I also have a couple of Jazzmasters with jazzmaster pickups and the sounds are drastically different. The 90s have more gain and honk to them, not nearly as smooth or articulate as the Vintage 65s in my JM. The cleans aren't as pristine as a real JM, but the P90s overdrive well and sound good for raunchy rock n roll. Also the rhythm circuit is very dark and wooly sounding on the J Mascis, almost unuseable for me. But for the money it's a good guitar and I've used it a lot. I take this to practice when the weather is bad, and I have gigged with it as well.

As for quality the big issue mine had was the wiring to the 3 way switch was bad and as a result the treble pickup kept cutting in and out. This occurred within the first year of owning the guitar. I had the wiring fixed and a new 3 way installed and it works as it should now.

This is a fantastic guitar. I love Dinosaur Jr. and all that J does, so getting the guitar was for the name and look. Once I looked at reviews of the guitar, I realized this is an excellent instrument! Great play ability and great sound. With all the features of a much more expensive guitar this is a great value at any price!

Comments about Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster Electric Guitar:

I played this guitar at my local Guitar Center and had a blast. The pickups are good, and it has a built in overdrive. the only reason that I gave this a four star and not a five star was because it's a one trick pony. The only sound that it really makes is a sort of hollow, tinny sound. That may not be a great destcription, but, imagine the sound that Slash's guitar makes when he's playing Sweet Chold O' Mine. It's a cool guitar, it's just a one trick pony.

Comments about Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster Electric Guitar:

After much debate I decided to buy the Squier J. Mascis Jazzmaster. I really wanted a Fender and I couldn't decide between a Fender standard Telecaster, a Squier vintage modified Jazzmaster or the Squier J. Mascis Jazzmaster. After reading lots of articles, reviews and info and comparing the specs of all three guitars, I decided I liked the J. Mascis' dimension and electronics the most and took the plunge and ordered it and I am SOOOOO glad I did! The neck feels amazing, the craftsmanship is phenomenal, the pickups are amazing and it looks beautiful! Even better than in the pictures. I was a little worried I wouldn't like the gold pickguard in person, but I was just blown away by how great the guitar looks! I've only been playing Gibson guitars for the last five years or so and was a bit worried I wouldn't like it but I haven't put it down since I got it! It's a wonderful guitar at an unbeatable price! Two thumbs way, way up!!!!!
