I was wrong. I loved this bass when I first got it (after having it set up to my liking). The sound & feel was much better than I expected. Here's the problem: when the bass arrived the strings were way too high off the fretboard. I had someone set it up just right for me. Then 2 months or so later I pick it up & the strings are all the way down. So bad that it wasn't playable. The neck jumps out of adjustment whenever it feels like it. I have owned several basses over the years(Yamaha, Peaveys, Spector, etc.) I've never had a bass do this before. I'll just call it bad craftsmanship, poor quality control, whatever. The guy who set it up for me said he got rid of his Squier for the same reason. I still have it, but it's pretty useless to me. I've since bought a Sterling by Music Man Ray 34 (more money, but much better all around). Bottom line: stay away from this unless you like adjusting your bass more than you like playing it!

Comments about Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass IV Active:

I've played a 1966 Jazz bass for over 3 decades and have always found it to be my favorite bass. I wanted a jazz with actives but couldn't see myself spending the money required for an American Jazz bass with actives...I don't play enough any longer to justify the price. So, I bought this one and it's been great! I love the way it plays, looks, feels and sounds. Plus, what you get for the money you spend is unbelievable. If you want a very good bass for a very good price, this is for you.

Good for modding, good looks, too bad they are only squier.

Comments about Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass IV Active:

The first shipment I got was damaged, so the 2nd time around I am happy. It's got an ok neck, not perfect, but decent for an Indonesian import. I'm replacing the stock pre. It's the only real flaw in this bass. It lacks any guts, and the "slap switch" is silly. I am also swapping out the pickups, although I actually think the stock are pretty decent. It's wide 20mm spacing at the bridge, but a narrow jazz 1 1/2" at the nut. I'm getting a new nut and routing for 18v and this is going to be my main player. I've had the V for a year now and I always just wished it could be a IV. They are affordable enough to have both. I measured it 9 pounds. Not light, but not too heavy.

Comments about Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass IV Active:

This bass is an incredible value. It sounds better than basses that cost 3 or 4 times more. I thought I' d give it a shot, not sure what to expect. As soon as I played it, whoa! It has that funk, pop, slap sound that I really only got from a Music Man before (it was borrowed & I had to return it). I have played a few higher end basses. Being a sax player mainly I don't have high-end money to spend (not on a bass, anyway). The sound of this thing is killer. Big, fat tones. And, absolutely perfect for slapping & grooving. I will be selling my Peavey Cirrus BXP (nice, smooth playing bass) because this is the only 4 stringer I need. I had it set up by my bass guru, put on some DR Fatbeams, and now it's the perfect bass for me. I have the 5 stringer on order & if it sounds & feels like this I'll be selling my Cirrus 5 string, too. Squier has done it this time. If you're not concerned about the name on the headstock, try this bass. You will love it!

this bass served me well for about a year and a half, nice sound, good sustain, then it started to cut out on me. opened it up and found that is VERY cheaply made. had to re-sadder allot of the wiring.

Comments about Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass IV Active:

Rarely would I buy another bass that is the same make and model. However, I had some gift certificates along with other types of certificates from this site and decided to use them to get another bass. I own the black version of the Active Deluxe 4 string and it is the best bass I have owned until I bought the Sunburst version of the Deluxe Active Jazz Bass. This bass plays better than its Black counterpart of which is nothing short of dying and going to bass guitar heaven!

Comments about Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass IV Active:

I bought a slightly used all black Deluxe Jazz 4 string bass 8 months ago, and really like the way it plays and sounds. I did find out that Rotosound strings sound horrible on this bass! GHS Boomers are the way to go on this bass. I can say that once you put the right strings on this bass, it sounds like a million $$$ no doubt. I suggest that you get the all black version in that it is an absolutely knock-dead great looking bass! This bass is worlds better than the Fender MIM Standard Basses.

              Tune in your sound

Comments about Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass IV Active:

A friend brought this bass to a gig; he said he doesn't play his other basses anymore, as he likes it so much. I liked it too, and after playing 7 basses at the store , ordered one myself. Result: Surprisingly good looking, parts quality seems good. Plays well out of the box (but will need setup). Great tone, with broad range of sounds available with some thoughtful tweaking. Easy to play, with plenty of round wound twang defining the tones, but with adjustments to guitar, amp and articulation, one can achieve a fat, dark thud more akin to traditional tones. Excellent value - very pretty. Cons: Mine arrived with a significant cosmetic flaw - a small black knot on the face, but under the finish close to the bottom of the neck. I think this instrument should have been sold as a second. I contacted GC and they agreed to give me a store credit for a fair amount to compensate for defect. I'm satisfied with the outcome. Body somewhat heavy basswood. Conclusion: Play one, if you like it, don't hesitate. It's a great deal. I hope it lasts.
