Awesome bass. Let me start out by saying that i've tryed and played anything from cheapies to pedullas. I bought this bass for my main 5 string bass because when i tried it out, i loved it. It looks like a bass that would cost at least 2 to 3 times the amount. I have big meat hooks and it is tough for me to play finger style on smaller basses. So i like the wide spacing at the bridge and at the nut. The ebonal frettboard is nice and tight. The pick ups sound amazing, the brightest i've heard. The active electronics and slap switch allow for such a wide tonal range. If set up properly you can get the action nice and low with the bass, very similar to the pedulla. It is very comforatble to play. Now the bad news. Watch out for the quality control. I recieved the bass and the stack was in the wrong control hole. And the 1st two pots, when you moved them they made a grinding noise over the amp.I unscrewed the back cover plate and readjusted the circuit board wich was jammed in there pushing against the pots causing the noise. I had to drill out the proper size hole for the stack in the proper position. Despite the normal lightness of basswood, The bass weighs alot, probably double what my schecter custom 5 weighs, and a good 2 lbs over my heavy swamp ash j-bass. Other than that, the bass Rocks. Just wish they made a frettless. An all around plus from me. Good luck.

I purchased this bass about a year ago thinking it was a good buy but after I took it home I noticed it was hard to get a good tone out of it, it was also difficult to intonate the b string and it sounded muddy probably due to the basswood body, I did some research to discover it wasn't actually an ebony fretboard it was ebonol, a synthetic plastic designed to sound like ebony, continuing my research I discovered the fender pickups were very cheap for the pair from a licensed fender parts distributor, the only thing I liked about this bass was the electronic tone controls, similar wiring can be bought from the seymour duncan website, you would be better off checking the ESP website for a 5 string for less money AND better quality, every other guitar I own is fender or squier but this bass is my most regretted purchase as a musician, please look elsewhere

Comments about Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass Active V 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I gig every weekend with a corporate band. We average about 120 dates a year from this band alone. We play rock, country, jazz, pop, soul, blues, beach,RnB etc.......
I would have to say this is the best bass you can find in this price range. I bought mine used, so it might have already been setup but it plays like a dream and it has a lot of low tone but it also has a bite that's clear and punchy, it doesn't crack like the Ibanez BTB 5string neck thru maple one piece I had. This has to be the best bass I've owned in yrs so far. And I would compare this EVEN to the custom Peavey Cirrus 6 string bubinga wood custom shop I used to own for about $2K. This bass sounds and plays better than some basses way more expensive than this...... word.,....

I love this thing. I can't stop playing it, I come right home and pick it up. The neck is very solid and I like the traditional spacing. Have used it and many gigs with compliments about the sound. I use the slap switch on for finger style and it sounds massive yet clear.

Comments about Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass Active V 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I've been playing as a church musician for a number of years and I have a few bass guitars, from Ibanez SR 505 , Peavey Fury 6, and after reading the reviews on this deluxe jazz active v, I decided on its purchase. It was a scratch and dent item in the description, so I called to inquire before purchasing. Was told it has some scratches on the back near the battery compartment, so they knocked nearly half off the price! I received my nearly New bass four days later and could not be happier! One small scratch on the back, and otherwise Brand New to me! A little tuning and the Active Electronics sound phenomenal through my Peavey rumble 100 bass amp. I have my eye on a Mark bass Cmd 121H amp next! Thank you musicians friend

i owned one of these basses a few years ago and sold it.since then I have owned high end basses like modulus and alembic.the tone of this bass comes so close to high end its scarey.I played out with my first one and everyone assumed it was high end fender that was hot rodded.run it through a good amp and you wont regret it.

Comments about Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass Active V 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I purchased this bass during the Black Friday sales. The V Deluxe cost the same as the regular Jazz V. It has the Seymore Duncan pickups and the mid scoop switch, three band eq +and-, and the Ebonol fingerboard. I play in a classic rock band and am finding the odd occasion for the need of a fifth string. I needed a backup bass in case anything happens to my 1979 Ibanez MC924 Musician. I did not want to spend a fortune and so I thought I would give this a try. I like it even though I am not used to playing with five strings. The string spacing is nice and wide, which I like. I have to remind myself to unplug it at the end of the day so I don't run the battery down. If the pickup blend is centered there is no pickup noise, however if you roll towards the bridge or neck pickup you start to hear them buzz. Not a huge deal for me because I use this live and the buzz will get lost in the ambient room noise. This is a great deal "for the price". I don't know how I feel about the unfinished neck. I think it will be hard to keep clean. I wish the Ebonol was a satin finish instead of the high gloss. It sounds great through my GK MB410 with a little compression. This was a good purchase and with minimal tweaking, it set up nicely and sounds great.

Comments about Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass Active V 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

My previous bass was a American made Fender Deluxe V,unfortunately I had to sell because of financial difficulties! This Squire bass should not be taken lightly! Sounds good, although I recommend changing strings first off. The B string is a little muddy compared to the deluxe, but than again I was playing through a Markbass Jeff Berlin 15 inch combo-which by the way I had to sell for financial reason's-I have some DR high beams being shipped from MF,I expect the sound to be enhanced greatly! I love the look of this bass without a pickguard, very sexy! The neck width is huge on this bass, feels like a six string bass.Bottom line, good bass, good qaulity, almost as good as American made Fender!

Comments about Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass Active V 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

At this price point, this bass is a steal for a "decent" 5'er, but has some drawbacks. You say your budget is around three times what this one costs? Then the Ibanez BTB675 is ready to go out-of-the-box. If you can live with The Squier's limitations, or are willing to spend the money to hot-rod/mod it, it is a good starter kit. It is one of the very few five strings with 19mm string spacing, the reason for my purchase. The Ibanez BTB is one other. Now that is out of the way, the critique: Pros: Nice neck. Jury is out on the "Ebonol" fingerboard Adequate pickups Low Price Cons: Cheap hardware (tuners, bridge) Fret sprouts Floppy B-string. A 35" scale STB will cure that. Advantage: Ibanez BTB. Gloss finish. I prefer satin Headstock is ugly, (IMO) Weight (10.5 lbs.) It's a Neck Diver, even with a 3" wide suede strap and of course, the strings are junk I have only owned this bass for a little over a day and played it for a few hours. Too many cons for me. Back to GC it goes. Thank you Guitar Center for your return policy! On the bright side, I have decided to just convert one of my 4 strings to BEAD tuning so I'll have a bass that is comfortable for the times when a low-B is called for.. and skip owning a 5'er altogether. Now to find someone to sell those G-strings to.

Comments about Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass Active V 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This is a big boy bass. No screwing around here. This thing is huge and beautiful. This is my 4th Fender bass. Great EQ/active electronics. Make no mistake, the fretboard is not Ebony but Ebanol. It looks like an abomination, like shiny black plastic. I was about to send it back. The side of the fretboard looks like flat black ebony. Not sure what idiot decided it would be a good idea to gloss it on top, but it plays great. I may have to figure some decent way to scuff it up so it doesn't look so horrible. The finish is amazing but looks nothing like the photo. The classic black/red/yellow sunburst, has no brown involved. I love a pretty guitar, but it's all about the play. This is one mean machine. This would get 6 of 5 stars but the fretboard just kills me. I may just never need another bass, but that probably won't happen. I like the regular spacing on the strings, but I probably wouldn't complain if they sliced an 1/8-3/16" inch off the width of the neck. Completely versatile. Love it.
