I have been playing guitar a long time, about 30 years. I play mostly Hard Rock, Metal and Blues. I have spent a long time trying to find a Strat I really like. I have looked at American and MIM Strats, and have never found any love. I have never been a fan of the old vintage style tremolos, they always felt really cheap to me. Then I found the Squire Deluxe Hot Rails Strat and fell in love. The neck feels great, it has a satin not gloss finish so it's nice and smooth. The frets are the standard strat size, a little small but feel really good. The headstock is the fat style strat headstock which I love! The trem is the Fender two stud style, which I like compared to the six screw vintage style. After watching some instructional videos I was able to get the trem to stay in tune! Big bonus! The pickups are where this ax shines! They are Duncan Designed Hot Rails! The pups don't hum due to the twin blade design, and are nice and hot. They don't sound like your typical humbucker, but they don't sound like a single coil either. They are right in the middle, nice and bright with plenty of bite. But they aren't to glassy like a single coil either. They sound great for just about anything, from classic rock to blues, hard rock to metal. The pups shine! I will admit I play through a pretty nice rig (DigiTech GSP 1101 through a 100 watt tube amp), so I can get plenty of different tones from the guitar. But for the money, this is a great Strat!
I bought this guitar mainly because of the pickups, but when I got it home on my Marshall half stack I discovered how truly amazing it really is. Since I always wanted a guitar to jam on before and after gigs just to warm up I bought it to mess around with, but I started using this guitar in the studios because it had better sound then my other fenders. All in all this is a great guitar to get if your just starting or if you've playing for years on end.
This was my first guitar, and I still have it. Has held up very well for 2 years now, the picks still sound good, and the neck is very easy to play especially for a beginner like I was. Nicely well rounded, I have used mine from classic rock to heavy rock so it can deff play the field. Not so good if you are gonna be tearin on the trem bar though it goes outta tune fast. Its deff a good investment for the money even as a back up guitar.
This is a really fine guitar and have spent at least 100+ more for anything better I have. Like all guitars you need a little adjustment. The g string buzzes before being in tune a slight amount. The lower fret edges are sharp but not out of control. The rest of the fit and finish is perfect and the tremelo to me is way better than the licensed floyd rose. Simple and so effective for bends od any nature. Stays in tune and has great sustain and tones that can be pretty much whatever you want. The pickups are the best over drive have played without ruining the instrument with too much. The cut of the body is so great for playing and can see the difference from older designs of the past. Foget the cost this is an exellent instrument and will prove its self easily. Just look at the you tube demos and you will immediatally hear the unique pickup contributions that will make this a keeper for life. Also try and buy one as they are all sold out until february of next year... A+++
Great for blues or medium rock.Does ring out if string is bent over the 13th fret but is still a pretty good guitar.Ive played a $500 Fender and believe it or not this guitar towers over it.Bottom line...buy it!
This is a great guitar for everything. It sounds great and for the price it plays like a guitar five times more. I would highly reccomend this guitar. Buy it, you wont regret it.
I have had this guitar, in black, for about a year now and this thing is awesome. I have been playing for over 30 years and have had many Strats including the early 90s Strat Deluxe with the Lace pickups. This plays just as nice and has a great sound for 1/4 the cost. I play through a 1961 Gibson Falcon Tweed and a Fender Blues Deluxe. When played through the Fender on the gain channel this thing rings and breaks up the tubes beautifully. I have decided that I am going to buy a white one for my backup guitar.
This guitar represents an excellent value in terms of what you get for the money in my opinion. It is a vesatile guitar that can play anything from blues to insane metal, although it is probaly best suited to hard rock and heavy metal with the supplied Duncan designed humbucker pickups. It delivers mondo sustain, which surprisingly is almost as good as my Les Paul. The fit and finish were excellent, the only exception being a slightly loose jackplate screw which was easily fixed with a slightly larger screw. Setup seemed very good right out of the box with no major adjustments required, I only needed to tune up the strings bfore playing. It's a good looking axe with the classic white body which contrasts nicely with the chrome hardware, black humbucers, rosewood fretboard, and maple neck, my only complaint is I think it would have looked a little bit nicer with an all black or white pearloid pickguard. This is a great sounding guitar on my Line 6 Spider III 75 amp, and I can dial in virtually any sound or tone I want with it by adjusting the amp settings and pickup positions. All things considered I'm very happy with this guitar and I would certainly recommend it as an excellent combination of features and value for beginner and intermediate level guitar players.
Please allow me to say that this is not a "normal" review. The reason is that I have 28 guitars of all kinds and price and 6 amps. So with all those choices, I go through the agonizing process of looking for THE tone, mixing up guitars, amps, etc (every guitar player's never ending search). So after several days of that, I end up keeping THIS guitar and one other out to play, it always ends up so. So on to the guitar, simply put, a great value. The pickups put out this big fat sound that cuts and grinds, sort of like the holy grail of driving the tubes of an expensive amp close to breaking up, but it comes from the guitar instead, amazing! It's not as shimmering bright as my other rare & expensive strats, which after playing this one, sound too thin (back to the closet), and don't forget these are humbuckers so, no noise! By the way, the "other" guitar varies, but almost always ends up being my Big Apple Strat, now called the double Fat Strat, 2 Duncan pearly gates that sing forever, would not trade it for anything, plus some pedals and an old Peavey Classic 30. For this price? get this guitar, there's no way you can lose!
This guitar is the best! It plays like it looks and I love it. This thing rocks from what I have experienced with it. The wammy bar is totally awesome and it sounds great. I would suggest this guitar if you were either an expert or beginner.
