Overview

The Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s is a rough-and-tumble electric guitar ready for almost any musical situation. With an alder body; rosewood fingerboard; 21-fret, vintage-tint gloss maple neck, this Strat definitely has that '60s vibe but with the modern playability of a 9-1/2" neck radius and medium-jumbo frets. This Squier Strat's tone is thick with a custom set of Alnico V single-coil pickups-a quick attack with a bit more midrange oomph and a bridge pickup that packs a knockout punch! Custom stagger pole pieces provide improved string-to-string balance.

Classic Vibe!

Back in 1982, the very first Squier by Fender guitars and basses came ringing out of Asia. Known for their excellent vintage-quality look, feel, sound, and construction, those early Squier instruments and their Fender-branded counterparts are now highly sought-after collector's items revered by guitar enthusiasts as models of "getting it right" while aiming at value-conscious players. The Squier Classic Vibe Series reflects that simultaneous commitment to excellence, value and vibe. Mirroring classic Fender designs, the Classic Vibe offering is not intended to be era or vintage correct-but rather imparting the vibe of a classic Fender design. Each with distinctive feature set combinations-all adding up to one classic looking instrument. Great sound, vintage looks, unbeatable value-Classic Vibe!

I've owned this guitar for 4 months and can't say enough good things about it. I have owned American Strats and MIM Strat that I have modded, and this is my favorite strat I have ever owned. (Not everyone will love it, but everyone will see its fantastic value.) The Neck This is the best guitar neck I have ever used. EVER. When I set it up to a low action, there was no fret buzz. The edges of the frets are perfectly finished with no sharp edges and their heights are perfect. This is unheard of in this price range. Also, the neck is a thin c-shaped neck. Very comfortable and fast to play. If you have small fingers, or simply prefer a thin neck, this guitar has the best neck you can find. The Tone This guitar has a wonderful tone and sustain. You can hear this when you play the guitar unplugged, it rings with a pleasing tone. The Alnico V pickups are pretty hot and drive an amp well. I had a lot of fun dialing in the height of this pickups to get the tone that I wanted. I found that the neck pickup of this guitar might be as good as any neck pickup that I have ever heard. A bold and full tone that will get you a Strat quack tone in the notch positions, but a gorgeous tone when just the middle pickup is selected. One tip I should give is that because these are hot Alnico pickups, you might generally want to keep the volume rolled down a bit. I play it at about 60% volume and it sounds amazing, and crank it when I want to drive the amp more. (I did raise the pickups a bit when I bought it too.) I haven't played a lot of squiers, but I had heard that most squiers had really bad volume and tone pots, but the pots on this guitar work great and are gradual and don't give you all of the volume with a 20 degree turn. The reviews that tell you that this is a 'great guitar for the money' are understating how good this guitar is. When I bought this guitar I compared it to the MIM Strats, Highway One Strats and even some US Strats. I messed around in the store raising and lowering pickups and plugging it into different types of amplifiers. I wanted to spend less than $1000, and bought this guitar for $300 with a coupon. As I was driving home, I was thinking that I would probably be disappointed with it at some point and just bring it back and buy a US strat or a Highway One, but I brought it home and it sounded better than the store. I have not had one second of buyer's remorse. When people laugh at the Squier on the headstock, I laugh at the price that they paid for a guitar that sounds inferior to mine.

Most Liked Negative Review

Good for a beginner but no more than a cheap first guitar.

Overall, very poor sound quality, and it did not stay in tune. The action was very low and sounded very bad when strumming.

Classic Vibe Stratocaster 60's is Better than you think!

By Mike G.

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

This is the best Stratocaster I have ever played. I have owned a USA made, MiM and the old Squier Stratocasters and this is one HELL of a Squier Sratocaster. I really like playing it the neck is smooth and the fret edges are not sharp it is a dream to play on this neck. The pickups are nice and hot Alnico V magnets and the tone of the strat really shines through. I am really amazed at how great this guitar sounds and the quality. If you want a Strat and want to save some coin for other guitar stuff this one is it! This is not a toy this is a true Fender in disguise!

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

I have never been a fan of Squires, almost without exception they are made with poor build quality from poor quality materials... the classic vibe series Squires are a big exception, these are quality instruments. This model: the 60's classic vibe has features typical of guitars that cost several hundred dollars more, for example: 2-piece Alder body, (high quality) Alnico V single-coil pickups with staggered poles for perfect balanced volume. The glossy, C-shape neck with meaty 9.5 radius feels substantial. The vintage-style tuners and bridge add great aesthetics.... Out of the box, action and setup were perfect. No buzz whatsoever... This guitar feels great and sound great!

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

When I was walking around looking for guitars to try out, this caught my eye. When I started to play this, I knew that I had to get this guitar SOMEDAY. The single coils give a great classic tone and the finish is beautiful. The picture on this website honestly does no justice! This CIC strat has an entirely different feel to it in the neck with its gloss finish on the maple, but it feels great! If you want a great strat for classic tones and rock n roll pomp with a tight budget, this guitar is for you.

Wow ...

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

I went to Guitar Center to purchase a Mexican Strat, or possibly, a pre-owned American model. Upon walking in the door I saw a Classic Vibe 60 sitting on a stand and was immediately taken by the amazing quality of the fit and finish. So I picked it up, played a few (unplugged) notes and was blown away by the guitars feel and playability. Not wanting to limit my options, I played a few Mexis, and even a used USA model, but, I came back to the CV. Why you ask? It blew the Mexi series away. The look, feel, even the sound was above and beyond any Mexi I tried. Yes the USA Strat was a bit better as far as tone, and a "refined" feel, but comparing this to a USA model isnt apples to apples. Even though this little gem held its own against its bigger badder cousin. Bottom line, this guitar is the best "bang for the buck" Strat you will ever find. Pictures do not do this guitar justice, it is absolutely beautiful. If you're on the fence about purchasing, go for it. You wont be sorry.

Great Value!

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

I just got one of these Classic Vibe Strats from Squier after jonesin? for a Stratocaster for a while. I used to have a ?62 reissue Fender Strat from the early ?90?s (MIJ) that played better than any American-made strat I?ve played. I?m mostly a Les Paul guy, so I sold the Fender years ago and now I really miss it. This Squier Strat plays at least as good, with a smoother fretboard and a beautiful finish. Out of the box, I was surprised how low the action is ? and with no buzzes. The frets are finished nicely and are all leveled perfectly. The neck is straight and the overall fit and finish are flawless. Well worth the money! Note that the thickness of the rosewood fretboard is much thinner than my old Fender?s was. The intonation on the upper frets is off a bit (nothing that can?t be fixed at the bridge) and it has difficulty staying in tune. The tuning issue may have something to do with the cheezy strings that came on it ? or possibly the cheaply stamped tuning machines. Pickups sound okay with some great bluesy twang to it. The guitar sounds great unplugged, too. I?ll probably replace the tuners first, then perhaps the pots and caps, as those are also inferior. This guitar beats the pants off of the Mexican Fenders and in my experience is one of the best values in the guitar world!

great guitar

By Erik

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

I did way too much research and trying guitars for this price range and ended up with the first guitar i picked up a month or so ago; this one! Dont second guess it and buy it. I have been playing for almost 30 years and have played and owed many guitars. This one is up there will all of them. I bought this to be a back up guitar/new toy for my new home studio and this has become my goto guitar. I played this back to back with a MIJ, MIM and american made fender strat ($499). This guitar sounds better, feels better and will save you a few hundred bucks. If you can get past the squier name (i did have trouble with that since i have always owned american made teles and strats) you will be taking this guitar home. The finish is superb, the neck has a great finish and is dead straight after i gave a quick tweak, the modern C shape will fill out your palm well if you like the neck of a strat and/or tele, it is nice and light yet solid as a rock. Go get it. You wont be let down.

A great guitar for the money.

By Jonathon McCunn

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

I don't own one,but my band mate has it.I played it a gig and it plays and sounds wounderful.the neck and fret work is great. The finish is nice.It is right up there with my american standard strat. Now the down side to the guitar. I told my bandmate that had a hotrails pickup for sale and I told him I would sell it to him and I would put it in for him.So he gave some money and the guitar. I took it home and pulled off the pickgaurd and to my suprise I seen the worst looking pots.5way switch and wire I have ever seen.I had that made in china look. So to everyone who buys a one of these guitars you need to understand just because it looks great on the outside, that don't mean it has the same craftmenship on the inside. Now saying that I would still buy one.It is nice for the money.

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

After, receiving this guitar and unpacking it,I kinda jumped the gun a tuned her up and played it,perfect intonation from the factory, the bridge was locked down, guess thats for shipping purposes.I broke out the tuner and did a proper set up of the Bridge/Guitar by Fender specs.I've owned 3 American strats in the past and this little guitar can keep up with em' right out of the box, nice full sound, and at a budgit price, and did I mention the quality craftsmanship??Alder body looks great and the rosewood fingerboard is sweet, and of course the maple neck is a given,I bought the 3-color sunburst,I may have to order another one of these in white

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

I believe there's about 5 levels of Squires with the Classic Vibe (CV) frequently rated at the top. Each level changes up about $50 starting with the Bullet, Affinity, Standard, Vintage Modified up to the CV. Now I understand when people say "you get what you pay for," I brought 2 experienced (each in several bands from Blue Grass and Country to Rock) to play with it before I bought it. They were surprised to see that, in their opinion, it played and sounded as well as the lower priced MIM fender strats and far superior to the other Squires ("It's a great bang for the buck"). Speaking as a beginner, I found it easier to play then most of the other brands and choices in the $399 price range with several comparable exceptions from the higher end Epiphone line (the Les Paul and SGs). Obviously you need to go a "Guitar Center" and try it and find out for yourself. My best uses are limited because I'm just a novice with only about a dozen chords under my belt, but the chords don't buzz and it's easy on the fingers for a beginner (and I'm guessing, for a more experienced player as well). I hope you'll agree with much of what I've said after trying one out and comparing.

best strat I have ever played

By Rick Shank

from Elyria ohio

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

This beauty caught my eye walking around it was based on the 60s strats and i love 60s strats and vaughn so it was only natural for me to pick it up. So i went and plugged it into a fender super champ and put the voice selector on 3..... It was the most accurate vaughn tone i had heard in my life and it felt so great in my hands. I played this for 3 hours. This guitar wore me out from playing it and if a guitar does that to me then that means its definentley for me. I havent bought it yet but i am highly considering trading my PRS SE custom 22 for it and picking up a super champ for my self. I cant stress enough how much this guitars like vaughns guitar number one. The one i played even had a nice slightly figured neck. this guitar is so good i think it could easily compete with an american standard strat. Or even the SRV artist series stratocaster itself. you have to get this guitar!

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar a few days ago, and have yet put it down more that 5 minutes. It is absolutely amazing. It is a really great looking guitar the picture on here does not do it justice at all. So far it has done all that i've asked of it and more. It is yet to go out of tune and i do a lot of bends and use the whammy bar a lot so that is a plus. The overal quality of this guitar is great, I feel like ripped Squier/Fender off.

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

I was skeptical at first when I opened the box because it was a squire. But I LOVE this guitar. The build quality and sound quality is fantastic. Everything on this guitar is at least three times better than the normal squire strat. The neck is very nice and I love the finish on it. The pictures don't do it justice. Buy it

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

I have owned many guitars through my journey and have been playing for about 12 years. Among the gear that I owned and some still owe are : -2002 CIJ Fender Jaguar, Squier J Mascis JM, MIM Stratocaster, Epiphone Dot and Ibanez Artcore AS73. I absolutely love this guitar. I mostly play Indie/ Shoegaze / Atmospheric / Noise so playing a Strat in my circle is somewhat unusual. This guitar blows away the CIJ Jaguar the MIM Strat and it has a much more better shaped neck than the JMJM ( IMHO) as it is thinner and more comfortable for small handed players. Easy to set up compared to the Jag or JM and extremely versatile. I know that people complain about the trem system on the Stratocasters, but I have been playing this thing for about a week abusing the tremolo and the guitar stays perfectly in tune. The neck on my MIM is a bat and the pickups as well as the trem system are of poorer quality. The only downside is the relatively cheap nut ( that does the job anyways). I have been playing this for about a week and it is the greatest instrument I have owned thus far, hands down.

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

I was going to GC for a hi-hat clutch as my main roll is drumming for KattyWompus. I also play guitar and write and loved the affordability & playability of the squire. Having bought one for my daughter years ago and using it to write a bit, I new I wanted to get one for myself. I did not know when I walked into the store that day I would find my Guitar. The white CV with the gold pick guard caught my eye and I started comparing it to the other guitars in its range in the store. None could hold a candle to it. I was only able to play it for a short time because I was headed to a dinner. So I bought it and took it to my girlfriends for the weekend. No amp I played it and was impressed with the feel and tone I could hear in the vibe of the body. When I got home and plugged it in to my little old Crate amp it sounded better then any guitar I've ever plugged into that amp. Classic Fender Strat sound out of this little Squire! The tone and sustain are incredible. I may go buy another in tobacco sunburst. You really need to try this beauty out!
