Overview

The Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s is an electric guitar that leaves no doubt as to its true Fender identity. With its cool finishes on an alder body and 21-fret vintage tint gloss maple neck, this beauty definitely has that '50s vibe. But you also get the modern playability of a 9.5" radius neck and medium jumbo frets. The tone is unmistakable as well, with a custom set of AlNiCo 3 single-coil pickups. This Squier guitar's tone is clear and bright with terrific sustain even in crunch mode! Custom-staggered pole pieces provide improved string-to-string balance.

Classic Vibe!
Back in 1982, the very first Squier by Fender guitars and basses came ringing out of Asia. Known for their excellent vintage-quality look, feel, sound and construction, those early Squier instruments and their Fender branded counterparts are now highly sought-after collector's items revered by guitar enthusiasts as models of "getting it right" while aiming at value-conscious players. The Squier Classic Vibe Series reflects that simultaneous commitment to excellence, value and vibe. Mirroring classic Fender designs, the Classic Vibe offering is not intended to be era or vintage correct-but rather imparting the vibe of a classic Fender design. Each has a distinctive feature set combinations- adding up to one classic looking instrument. Great sound, vintage looks, unbeatable value-Classic Vibe!

This guitar is an amazing value for your money. I used to be a guitar brand snob before playing this guitar. The feel is absolutely amazing, one of the easiest guitar's I've ever played. The fit and finish was excellent with the body being 1 piece alder. really rare at this price point. The only downside i can see was the pickups, they were very weak and thin sounding. With some new pickups this guitar would be in the same league as the 500-700 dollar instruments in my opinion.

I'll start out by saying the best thing about this guitar- you can't get anything as good as this in this price range. There's no question that Fender in general makes great guitars for the money. Even the American made strat isn't that expensive compared to most guitars. This guitar has upgraded pickups for an entry level guitar, which is nice. They aren't great though. They have better tone than the $100 squier strat but not as good tone as better guitars. Also, while the construction of this guitar is fantastic, especially the light colored, laquered, maple neck, for some reason it does not have good sustain at all. It really doesn't. I'm going to try aligning the neck and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise, the fit and finish is really unbelievable in this price range. If you've never played a strat, you'll love the comfort and easy playability of it. That would be true if you played most strats though. I have been playing my ESP neck through body with active pickups a lot right before picking this guitar up and I noticed a real difference in the sustain, tone, and ease of playing when I made the switch. That's unfair though, as it's a comparison of two totally opposite guitars. If you want a strat, this is as good if not better than a made in mexico strat (i can't speak about the american ones because I've never played one) in terms of fit and finish and all parts except for pickups. I don't think anyone will be really unhappy with this guitar at this unbelievably low price. You may find yourself upgrading pickups after a while though.

Great buy

By Cliff in NH

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

I had been searching for the better part of a year for my first electric guitar (I have played acoustics for years)on a limited budget. The classic 50's caught my eye from the good reviews. I played several at a few stores and all I could say is WOW! I found the consistency from guitar to guitar to be great. The wood is wonderfully resonant and the PUs have a great range of tones. Compared to a Mex strat, it out performed the Mex strat in every way. I have been giving it a good work out almost daily and can say it holds the tuning extremely well. I've adjusted the tuning from standard to drop-D and back several times and it holds both. The action is great. The construction seems to be great so far. Nice wood grain on the sunburst, solid resonance, smoothly finished frets, and a quick playing maple fingerboard. Unplugged, this guitar is loud enough to plainly hear across a 14' x 14' room, something I could not find in most other electrics, including several mix and american made strats I've been able to play. Excellent job in manufacture, quality, workmanship and affordability

Classic Buddy Holly!

By Kip

from Salem, Connecticut

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

I got my Classic Vibe Strat 50's today and it was perfect right out of the box. Tuned it up and twanged away to my Buddy Holly favorites. Clean, shiny, dressed frets, intonation dead on,and beautiful woods with great tone for the money. This is the electric I picked after 20 years of acoustic playing exclusively. I've had most electric brands since I started in 1969. This guitar knocks me out. I'm in love. Better than my Mexican "Blackie" Clapton Strat I had many yrs. ago I won't change a thing on it. Excuse me, I got to get back to playing now! If you knew Peggy Sue...

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

I've been playing strats for over 40 years, and have probably played over 100 different ones from 1954-present. Strats have undergone every kind of transition imaginable from the post-CBS guitars to the present. I mean who ever thought Fender would make strats with humbuckers?

But seriously, if you like the sound of the 50's strats, and I do, then this is it. STOP - DO NOT PASS GO. You gotta try one of these out.

WARNING, take around $400 with you because you won't leave the store without one. I'm just saving you a trip.

      By Joe

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

This guitar is without a doubt the best value in it's price range. I will also go a step further and say that it's better than a MIM Fender Strat. I have played both of them side by side and the CV 50's Squier blows the (present model) MIM Fender Strat away. I had never been a fan of Strats, I cut my teeth on Deans, Schecters, and B.C.'s, but as I have gotten older, my taste in music has changed. I never once would have even considered a Squier had that sales guy not come over with a CV when I was test driving the MIM fenders. Now I have two...

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

this is the best strat i've ever owned, fender or squier and believe me i've owned an american made fender!the maple gloss fretboard is smoothe as silk and when you plug it in the sound is amazing, the pickups are bright either with or without distortion!it's probably the lightest guitar i've ever owned as well and it looks as though it came off the assembly line in 1956!!!it has the perfect"jimi hendrix sound"the kneck pickup melts like butter, all the in-between sounds, and the bridge pickup is hot for a single coil.all in all, please buy this guitar for beginner or otherwise, you will definetely not be disappointed!!!

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar without having the opportunity to play it, and I was not disappointed. I got the Olympic white and this thing is beautiful. I like the glossed maple neck, and the aged plastic parts are a nice touch. The guitar was set up great right out of the box. The guitar has an awesome tone. It has the classic Strat sound, and I have been able to get bell like chimes and gritty distortion out of it. I compared this guitar to my father's American Standard, and the difference isn't as noticeable as one would like to believe given their price points. This is an amazing value.

      By Marshall Toy

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

This is a great machine for an blue-collar player. I am constantly tweaking with my boxes and this is a great format with which to tweak. The neck is nice for a bigger-handed guy like me. Great tones out of the pickups, especially the neck and neck/middle. If you need something well-built that you can carry anywhere, this is it. I have yet to have a sour experience with any of the Classic Vibe series.

      By Joe Moe

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

The 50s classic vibe strat changed my life. It was my first electric guitar and I've truly become a better musician in general as a result of it. Its eternal look and peerless "vibe" is obviously one that could have only come from Fender. I have spent hours playing a variety of different guitars in a local guitar center near my house, and it can match some of their most impressive models. For this price, this strat delivers quality and great price efficiency. I recommend it both for people starting out with electric guitars and also for the veterans out there.

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

It's the real deal. I knew by even looking at the pictures that it was quality made. Such a steal. ( Don't jack the price up Fender) Had to mess with the string height a bit, still not quite there yet. But it plays and sounds great. I have payed strats worth thousands and this is close to them and will age nicely. I am really looking forward to the Tele CV also. You tube demos are fantastic! Pine bodies again, like the originals. God Bless those folks in china making these. Fender owes them a debt of gratitude. Squire has turned it up a notch. In short; Highly recomended. Hard to beat value.

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

I have love Strats since i was a teenager. I own 3 American made, and 1 custom made,to me they are perfection, so when i saw the sunburst in the store, i that loved it! I thought it would be a good knock around,I don't have to worry about the fact that it's a Squire. If you are looking for a strat on a budget, this is your guitar! I also own the Telecaster version.

i bought this guitar to get better because i only had a cheap acoustic from a swap meet before this. i was disappointed that this guitar simply makes playing harder. It is as easy to play as my guitar from a swap-meet. It only has a more notable producer. you are basically paying for the fender sticker on the guitar.

      By Jeffery

      from Wilmington Delaware

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

I bought a 50's Classic Vibe in Olympic white used from Guitar Center. Visually it was flawless but... It had a dead fret and wasn't setup properly. Also didn't like the white at all seeing in person. It looked really fake and plastic like. Yes I realize this isn't a lacquer finish but it wasn't appealing to me at all. I wanted to love this guitar as a I bought a classic vibe tele used from GC and absolutely love it. Anyway after just playing it for 5 minutes I knew this wasn't for me and I returned it. I will be looking out to buy another classic vibe as I think they are the better than many of the Fenders costing 3X more.

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

I an experienced musician (30+years)who is a music lifer. My collection includes a Gibson Custom shop ES 335, Gibson Les Paul, USA Tele and a fender mexi strat, among others. I stumbled onto this guitar while browsing online. I started reading reviews saying its an incredible bargain. I was intrigued. I like modding guitars, and found a used one that I figured I would mod. No need for that! This guitar is a fender disquised as a Squier. Alder body, with good build quality. Fret edges on mine are smooth. I love the neck on this baby! Well worth the new guitar price. But, the pickups are the best kept secret in my opinion. Way better than the stock pups on my mexi strat. I upgraded the pots and switches, like I do with all inexpensive guitars. I also have all my guitars professionally setup. This one hasn't been touched. It also holds tune much better than my mexi strat. I like high end guitars, but I'm not even thinking about a USA strat. No need to. I'm set. My mexi strat collects dust. Buy this guitar if you want a guitar that is better than a mexi strat and don't want to pay a grand or more for a USA strat. Even if the pickups aren't your cup of tea, you can put top of the line pups in this and your sound will rival ANY fender strat for far less than a run of the mill USA strat. Bargain hunters and demanding musicians alike will like this guitar. If not, you can get a "better" one that says fender for about 600 bucks more, but don't be surprised if it still needs work. A bargain is no bargain if it can't perform alongside of my higher end guitars. This guitar meets my standards and is much more worthy of sitting next to my USA Tele and custom shop Gibby 335 than any mexi strat, or most USA strats, IMO.

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

My experience- the classic vibe 50s Stratocaster is a beautiful guitar. The finish is outstanding. It has the curves that a strat is supposed to have and the neck is gorgeous. No fret edges, smooth as butter, and the guitar is light, 7lbs. The whammy works great and its easy to bend notes and play on this neck. The neck is wider than regular strats, which is great. Most strat necks are too narrow. I like it better than the mex strat or the American. In fact, I like it better than my vintage strat. It's close because vintage instruments always have something special about them. It's got a lot of output, the bass is really strong and the trebles are more recessed but they are sweet. Overall, well done instrument, beautiful, easy to play, and sounds sweet.

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Electric Guitar:

So, the neck on this is not as thin/slim as a 54, but it is still a very nice neck. I don't think there is anything that I can play on a 54 that I can't play on this one. I have played some '57's and '59's and my vague recollection is that the necks on those are closer to this one. I have a '64 neck and it's a little thicker that the cv50.

The cv50 has a great sound and feel. I need to play with the action a bit; it came setup by the shop at GC just a bit high for my taste, but the individual string height adjustments on the bridge are super easy to tailor.

          Also, I need to put my string gauges on it. I use .009 | .009 | .011 | .024 | .032 | .042

when I have some time I'll change them and adjust the action at the same time. Stock strings were fine, just not my goofey gauges.
