Overview

The Squier Classic Vibe Precision Bass '50s delivers a unique playing experience both in terms of sound and feel. This larger neck and wider string spacing (1.65") of the P Bass promote strong pocket playing with a warm, earthy tone that is supportive and inviting. And you can have the unique voice of the Squier Classic Vibe Bass in your electric bass arsenal at an amazing price.

The beautiful finish over a basswood body is an eye catcher for sure, while its custom 'original' single coil Alnico V pickup delivers that old school, '50s P Bass tone. Open gear tuning machines sit atop a gloss 20-fret maple neck, both solid and stable. Modern refinements such as the flatter 9-1/2" radius and HiMass 4 saddle bridge make this bass more user friendly in terms of setup and playability. A winner with killer looks and a unique voice!

Classic Vibe!
Back in 1982, the very first Squier by Fender guitars and basses came ringing out of Asia. The Squier Classic Vibe Series reflects that simultaneous commitment to excellence, value and 'vibe'. Mirroring classic Fender designs, the Classic Vibe offering is not intended to be era or vintage correct - but rather imparting the 'vibe' of a classic Fender design. Good Deal

By Spudster

from Mesa, AZ

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

I've owned a '51 Reissue P-Bass for about ten years and bought this Squier six months ago as a backup and for taking on trips out of town. When I played it I was amazed at how close it sounded to my $1,000 '51. It is lighter than the original by about a half pound, and the neck is thinner -- more like a J-Bass neck. The fretwork is above average and the metallic blue finish (the only choice you get) is nicely done. The hardware is not high grade, but it seems rugged enough and I have had no problems keeping it in tune. The pickup is not as loud and punchy as the one on my Reissue, but tone-wise it sounds very good, with a nice deep fundemental. I would say it has a bit more midrange than the '51, which I think makes it stand out more in front of the mix. This is a good thing, as old style P-Basses don't generally penetrate as well as a Jazz bass or other types. I like this bass alot and I have used it more than I thought I would. It may not have the fit and finish of my '51 Reissue, but for the price you can't go wrong with it. Nice job Squier!

what A wonderful surprise!

By scott griswold

from Cape May, NJ

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

I received the butterscotch classic vibe a week ago and it was absolutely beautiful. I have always wanted a tele style p bass though I am a jazz bass and Mike Lull guy. I took the bass to my tech, Tom Hawk who was very impressed who noted that the neck was hard rock maple, one piece, the same as on the USA fender p basses. The tone is wonderful. The only upgrade I will add is a Schaller Roller bridge so I can manipulate the string spacing. This bass has wonderful tone. You will be very, very surprised.

Nice Bass

By bbop

from Detroit, Mi

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

For the money this bass is a great deal. It has great tone like a P-Bass should. The neck is thick and has a good feel like the old maple necks. The strings need to be changed but other then that it sounds great out of the box. Some people will tell you to watch out for the single coil pick-ups because they are too noisy, but this one is fine. My only complaint is I would like a vintage finish instead of the Lake Placid Blue.

There's just something about this bass.

By Hayden

from Tucson AZ

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

I've been playing guitar now for few years and I thought it was time to get a bass. When I first started looking at possible basses I was looking jazz basses for the most part, But then this bass caught my eye and I knew had to have it. I thought I was gonna be drawn to more versatile bass like something with an active preamp or something. And yet here I was buying a One pickup, one tone knob bass, And I don't regret a thing. This bass is made very well for something in this price range. The first thing you have to judge a budget instrument on is tuning stability. there is no point in buying something that doesn't function. It stays it tune great! And there it passes the test for a beginner player and much more. I don't want to go on forever about this thing, though it may seem like I do. The Point is that it may not be for everybody but you got other models in the series built just as well for the same price, there's one for everybody. And for me there's just something about this bass that I LOVE!

Unbelievable

By Kyle Younger

from New York, NY

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

I could not believe that this bass was a Squier. The tone was deep and clear. Good for soul and R&B, but I've used it for rock. This was intended to be used as a backup bass to my Fender Jazz bass, but I find myself going to this more often these days. I still can't believe this is a Squier!! Incredible price for this kinda sound. Seriously.

A good addition or fixer-upper

By Colin Webb

from Warner Robins, GA

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

I do not own this bass, but have played it several times. Comparing it to a '51 reissue, the tone is great, though limited to that P-bass thump. It is great if you play alot of Punk, Soul, or Blues (oddly), but lacks the definition for more delicate tones. As far as hardware and finish go, the electronics are adequate, the tuners, jack, and bridge are decent quality, although wanting for sustain. The main gripe, as with so many basses, is the neck. The finish is far overpolished and sticky, impeding movement and playability. The fretboard and neck need to be sanded down and oiled, or replaced outright. If you have money to spare and are looking to add a '51-style to your collection or to start a DIY project, this bass has potential, but I do not recommend it as a primary play/practice bass as-is.

Induldge yourself with this jewel.

By Steve McGilvray

from Mebane, NC

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

I purchased this Bass last year. I have had no problems at all. I am not that picky of an individual, but I do not like the exposed wires at the pickup. I really have enjoyed the sound and look of this piece. People are forever commenting on it's distinct look. It playes like a champ pounding out those low sustaining bass notes. Fairs well while slap bass playing as well.

Great Bass For The $$$

By Tonybass

from Old Bridge,New Jersey

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

I just bought this bass after playing them in the music shops. This bass is as close to a Fender 50's P Bass as you will get.The single coil pickup is pretty decent and delivers the vintage sound that the Fender 50's P Bass did.I don't care for much for the thumbrest, that could have been left off.As for the color,I'm fine with that,I know that the original 51 P basses from that era were not Lake Placid Blue, but if this were in red, that would be my first choice. The neck and light body are just right for me as I've been a Fender man for years.

Surprisingly Fantastic

By Tom Smith

from salt lake city

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

I am blown away by the quality and sound of Squier's classic vibe bass. I picked up the natural finish model because to me it looks better and I love it. The natural finish one has a pine body (original wood used by Leo Fender back in the days...) and between the wood and the hi mass bridge on this baby it sings and sustains forever. The tone quality is great too. I've played the Fender 'Sting' models and even played japanese 51 precisions but in my opinion the pickup on this squier surpasses the more expensive fender models. This pick up sounds brighter, fuller whereas the other fender's sounded more like just a dull thud. I love the vintage tint maple neck-its finished great-no sharp fret ends...smooth and fast. A bargain kids!

No School like Old School

By Tebo

from Upstate, NewYork

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

I bought this Bass a about a year and a half ago. It was gorgeous out of the box and keeps getting better. I replaced the factory strings with flat-wounds 'cause I heard the frets are kind of soft. I doubt it, but boy did it change the tone! It sounds more like a stand-up bass with lows that'll flap your pant legs! I've since purchased a Jaguar bass (tone MONSTER) but I still reach for the 50's Classic Vibe P-bass when I feel like thumpin' out some tunes.

Good bass to build on!

By Kris

from Canada

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

I've been playing my Classic Vibe bass for over a year now. It was pretty good out of the box, but with some alterations...OH, MAN! I replaced the stock tuners with Grovers, installed a Basslines 1/4 lb single-coil, and a set of flats. Great thumpy tone now, with extra oomph provided by the Basslines pickup. Recommended, especially if you plan on modifying it.

Incredible for the money - Retro sound all the way!!!

By Ryan

from Colchester, CT

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

First of all, is this really a Squier?!?! I have compared other Fender/Squier models before and will often feel a real difference. Please know that this is a replica of the 51 P bass in a lot of ways. It has the fat neck and thin frets of its originator and is not designed for speed... it is designed to throw down the low end in the pocket. I elected to put flatwounds and some foam at the bridge to provide a bass that is in severe contrast to my Ken Smith BSR. (telebass chrome covers on their way to cover the unsightly foam). I gigged with it once so far and this bass is most definitely going to move into heavy rotation. Bang for your buck all the way with this inexpensive gem. The only knock against this bad-boy is that the P/U is single coil (though that is what the original had). There is a mild amount of hum when interference is present but it is not enough to make it worthwhile to replace with a splitcoil at this point. Live it is absolutely unnoticeable Would consider a fralin replacement if I start using it for studio work. Bottom line is that you won't be disappointed with this bass if you are looking for a retro groove machine.

Best Squire bass out there!!

By Jonah Krull

from N. Tonawanda

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

This bass feels like the original! The neck has a nice, indescribable feel, like the perfect blend between Chunky and Thin, so little to no effort when you play! The basswood body and its beautiful color give a great tone! And the pickups make the room shake! If you've looked at any other squire bass at all, skip um, cause this maybe be more then allot of them, but this is the real deal!! I consider it a Fender!

Huge Bang for the Buck

By Tom Smith

from salt lake, utah

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

I recently picked one of these up and have played it on stage a few times. I'm impressed with a number of things. I got the pine body natural finish and love the look! The neck is smooth and fret ends are dressed very well-better in fact than what I have seen on other squiers and even other mexican fenders. I'd love to know who made their pickup-again blown away by the tone of the pickup for a squier. I've played a Japanese made P 51 and also the fender Sting 51 bass-both sounded muddy to me and yet here this little chinese made squier has a rich, cut thru the mix tone. I thought I would probably have to swap out the pickup but I think I'll keep it as is. Finally the high mass bridge is another nice feature. I think it helps with the tone on the guitar and sustain is definitely improved. I hold a note and this thing rings forever. Again-nice touch! I am not a big fan of squiers nor am I a big fan of chinese made guitars (i ususally turn around and run away...) But this squier vibe bass is just an incredible combination of strong components, nice wood & finish and attention to detail all at a killer price. fun...wow! :o)

Great, except the usual Squire fatal flaws..

By Paul J Drake Sr

from Syracuse, NY

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

A friend of mine had this at an open mike last night, plays great, incredible weight, but the jack was cutting in and out. I had jack problems with my earlier version of the same bass. If Squire could get those details right with more consistency, no one could beat this for the price.

review by Nic Meineke

By Nic Meineke

from Monticello, Iowa

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Precision '50s Bass Guitar:

I really like this Bass Guitar for the main reasons that it is Lake Placid Blue in its Paint job and has a long-scale Maple neck, also the Headstock says Squier Precision Bass instead of Squier P-Bass and the word Squier is painted in Gold. But the only things that I don't like about this Bass Guitar is it has only ONE Pickup and that the jack where you plug your Instrument Cable into is on the side of the Bass Guitar instead of the frontside.
