Okay, let me start out by saying, this guitar is not exactly a great one. A player with more then a few months experience will probably hate it unless they put some serious money into it or mod it somehow. However, a new player, will find complete satisfaction here. It has that classic Strat look and feel to it ((although it might be lacking a bit in sound)). But for how cheap it is, the sound is actually really good. The amp that they give you to use however, around 6 or 7, will start to really distort the sound and I actually had to get it repaired a few times due to it shorting. Speaking of that, the cords will also short fairly fast, so I suggest you buy some cords to go with this ((nothing too fancy, just some cheap ones will do)). The gigbag they give you also works fairly well, it can fit your cords and guitar, but not much else. The tuner works but barely. It will likely confuse and frustrate a newbie who doesn't know the basics ((like what each string is called and different tunings)). The headphones are actually surprisingly efficent and can allow for someone to practice without disturbing parents, siblings, or neighbors ((but isn't that half the fun of an Electric?)). The DVD can help to teach a few neat things just to put someone on the right track too ((also, maybe buy a few picks for them, as newbies tend to go through them like quarters at an arcade. also, don't spend your money on like "Beatles" picks or other brand names, if you're new, just get them some standard Medium picks. Guitar Center even gives some away.)) So all in all, I give this value pack a 3. It's really good for a new player, although for a bit more, there are better ones. But if you are experienced, you will probably start to hate it pretty fast. But if you're in the market for an X-Mas or Birthday gift, this is great.

Really Worth It

Comments about Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack:

I got this guitar 5 years ago. I can't say enough good things about it. many people think that squier guitars arent very good. And they are probably right. But when you're starting out this is the way to go. This set is cheap and sturdy. My guitar still holds a perfect tune. while the pickups are a little noisy on high distortion its nothing to worry about. The only thing that isnt great about it is the Whammy Bar. It throws the whole guitar out of tune. its also fairly hard to use, i took mine out 4 years ago and havent put it in since. I recommend this set up for any new musician wondering if the guitar is for them.

Not bad for beginners

By EClap211

Comments about Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack:

I have a similar value pack to this but with a 10W amp instead. I think it is a good start up set for any new electric quitar player. I play the acoustic for many years and have decided to move onto electric and I am not disappointed with this one. I wanted to start out getting a good reliable brand, instead of getting the Target/Walmart types. I was deciding between the Fender and Yamaha which both had good value starter packs. I chose the Fender because of its history in guitar making. So far the Strat has performed to my expectations, although not high at this beginning point, but I am sure the Strat will be a good companion in years to come!

This Set Rocks!

By IrishRockMan

Comments about Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack:

I bought this kit a short time ago, and I love it! For anyone starting out on the electric guitar, like me, this is a great deal! A few of my friends told me that Squiers aren't very good, but for starters its a great deal! The amp is really loud for a small thing. I broke the high E string after one day, but that was because I tuned it too high. It's a good thing they have extra strings! The DVD is REALLY helpful. I would recommend ths kit to anyone just starting out on electric guitar!

Great way to get started

By Gibson SG addict

Comments about Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack:

I bought this in March and it introduced me to the world of music. I played it everday until I sold it because now I play with Gibson SG's. The amp was pretty loud for a little thing. The only thing I wish it came with a book on how to re-string a guitar for newbies. I broke every string except the low E and high E. But like I said I played with it everyday until I had the money to upgrade.

Great Starter Electric

By Matthew Mrosko

from Bakersfield, CA

Comments about Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack:

This was my first electric guitar. I learned to play on acoustics but always wanted to play electric guitar. This was perfect. It has great tonal quality for such a cheap guitar. The amp sounds alright as well, once dialed in. But if you are serious, which you probably aren't, yet, if you are buying this, then you will want to get a better amp first. The pickups sound decent, and you can upgrade them pretty easily given the HUGE aftermarket support. They do have a good bit of noise, a little more than I am comfortable with. If you are a new player you may not notice this but anyone with experience will notice it immediately, especially with the drive turned up. I was impressed with the build quality too. It is beautiful. The only thing I might change on this guitar sooner rather than later are the pickups, namely the bridge pickup. It is pretty noisy and a little "dry" for my taste. The included headphones and tuner work. They are not anything especially great but they get the job done when necessary. I have my own tuner and a couple sets of higher quality headphones due to my audiophile nature so I am good but if you don't you may consider investing in some, provided you need to play quietly.

AWESOME!!!

Comments about Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack:

This package is definately worth the money!!! The amp is loud as Hell. The Stratocaster is just like it's Fender cousin only a lot cheaper. Some people would think that Strats are just for Country and 60's rock, but with the distotion on the amp, I can go from The Who to System of A Down in the press of a button. I've been playing this for about six months and I can play like Tony Iommi on it!!! Get this package!!!

Great Package Deal

By Mits5speed

Comments about Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack:

I bought this package from GC around christmas time for my daughter. I haven't played guitar in over 20 years and I started playing again. I found out that it is a very nice set-up and with a little tweeking to the frets and and having the guitar set-up correctly this is an excellent value for a beginner. You get what you pay for and if you have the ability to make it what you really want then I say buy it.

Squire

By tyler

Comments about Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack:

This guitar is ok for a beginner. It comes with everything you need to get started. But in my opinion i would not buy this guitar if you think you will be playing for some time. The components on it are cheap. The frets get rusted and make it hard to do bends. Gets out of tune fairly quickly, and many other simple things. Also, the sound quality is no where close to a higher end stratocaster. Like i said, this is good for a beginner. But if you plan on buying a guitar to use for some time i suggest not getting this package.

Decent

By Anonymous

Comments about Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack:

I bought this as my first guitar/amp/everything else in the pack. Pros: Great price. good for any kid that wants to start playing; The tuner and headphones are really good, and the guitar itself is decent. Cons: The amp. When it is on Overdrive it picks up every sound. The strap isn't high quality either. The action on the guitar isn't great, and the tone isn't very great. Overall: A great pack to get you started but after a year of playing guitar (and having this guitar) i already want a new guitar.

just what I needed to start learning guitar

By Provofam

from Illinois

Comments about Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack:

I got this package after playing Guitar Hero III with my kids. I'd always wanted to play the guitar but never pulled the trigger. I turned 40 last year and figured what the heck! This is a really good setup to begin with, but I would highly recommend having a professional setup the guitar after you buy it. I travel alot with my work and this guitar seems to handle the travel well. I like the gig bag and the tuner is very easy to use. It stays in tune fairly well and is alot of fun to play. However, I would throw out the guitar strap that comes with this pack. It comes off at the most inopportune times. Luckily each time I was able to grab it before it hit the ground. I bought another strap and haven't had that problem since. The cable also went bad on me after a couple of months of playing. I bought another one from GC and it is much better quality. When I bought this package I didn't want to spend a ton of $ in case I discovered that guitar playing wasn't for me. Now I'm glad I got it. It's been fun learning on this guitar and it's great stress relief after a hard day at work. If you're on the fence like I was for years, take the first step and start playing! This pack is a great way to start!

Pretty good starter guitar

By Whokid

Comments about Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack:

I got this two years ago,I think, for xmas. The amp is ok, it's not great, but I mean, it's a 15 watt solid state beginner amp. The guitar great, The frets dented, that's just wear. The guitar sounds great, but with the amp it's only ok. But I plug my guitar into my Johnson J-station thing, and it sounds great. I'd recommend this guitar for beginners, but I'd say move on to another guitar (and/or amp) after a year or two, like a Mexican series strat from Fender.

Amazing Package

By Mike S

from New York

Comments about Fender Affinity Special Strat and Frontman 15G Amp Value Pack:

I received this package as a Christmas gift back in 04 or 05, and I have to say, as a first electric guitar, this guitar has an immense range of sounds. The amp is incredible, it packs a heavy punch and you can make it sound as you please. The guitar is wonderful too, no real problems with it, except it does get out of tune every so often because I use my whammy maybe a little too much :). My high E string sometimes breaks when I tune it, but that's okay. I love this guitar. 5 Stars.
