a $100 guitar is no comparison for something that's worth $1000+. but for the price, this is really a great deal. some people might be thinking twice about spending on a cheap guitar that won't perform well, that's just wrong. the stock pickups are really good. the one i got didn't have that noticeable 60 cycle hum. pinch harmonics are well defined. the feel of this guitar is really like a telecaster (after all, this has been approved by fender quality control). if you're just starting out or you just want to have fun upgrading a guitar (which i did), get a squier. this guitar is pretty solid.

I am primarily an acoustic player but I wanted to try an inexpensive electric just for fun, etc. It's an ok guitar. The frets are finished well enough that they don't interfere or feel sharp on the ends. As set up out of the box there was no fret buzzing and intonation seemed fine. The tuners seem ok and stay in tune pretty well. The only problem I've had with the guitar is the cheesy plastic plate that the jack is attached to. Any strain on the cable will break the plate. I went to a hardware store and bought a piece of brass sheet metal and cut out a small rectangle and drilled the proper holes, problem fixed.

One of the best guitars out there

By Rebecca of Karma In The City

from Las Vegas, NV

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar is one of the best guitars I have played in my life. The neck is like a dream, and is so much comfortable on your hands. The tuning never goes out. I have had this guitar stayed in tune for up to one month without locking tuners. The sound quality is great, and really adapts to any pedal you buy. Another words, it is a great guitar for any style. Definently a great buy.

It is a great guitar for the price.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

All i have to say is that this is the best guitar i own. I got the black one and it still looks like its just out of the box a full year later. It hums a little but you get used to it. the neck makes it easy to slide your hand up and down the frets as fast as you can strum. Its a perfect guitar for beginners and a great sound for the price. i recommend this guitar for any player who is looking for a great buy.

Very nice guitar...

By FenderBender

from Henderson, KY

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

...for those with a tight budget. This tele stays together VERY well and is very sturdy. The pickups are solid, and I was surprised that they pick up pinch harmonics rather nicely. But the best thing about this guitar is that it stays in tune EXTREMELY well. I only have to tune it about once a week since I always play in standard. Though, the only problem I have had with it is the screws came loose on the bridge and came out on their own. But this problem was easily remedied by just screwing them back in tightly, and it hasn't happened since. DEFINITELY buy this guitar if you are low on cash.

Amazing Value

By robojam

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I hadn't played guitar for years, and a couple of years ago decided to spend a couple of hundred dollars on a guitar to see if I would get back into it. I played 3 or 4 guitars in the store, but when I played this one I was sold! It is a very playable and solid guitar, and had a great action and intonation. It holds its tuning very well, even when I bend a lot of notes, and in general is very comparable to a mid range Fender. My only really issue is that the pickups don't really give that Fender tone, but it's certainly a nice sounding guitar.

Great guitar for the money

By Don L.

from Pittsburgh Pa

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I liked these enough that I bought one for my daughter. The selector switch does feel cheap and the pickups are noisy with the amp turned up or with distortion. Not bad though for what you pay for one of these. A grat starting point to build on and well worth the investment if you always wanted to try a tele. The necks on both were exceptional, nice fret job, very straight, only lowered the action a slight bit from the factory set up. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone just starting out.

Overall... very nice

By fisharefriends9

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

The Squier Affinity Tele is a very nice guitar for the price. Do not expect to get the best guitar in the world. It is, however, a very nice starter guitar and puts out a good sound. I've had almost no problem with mine. It plays very nicely and has that traditional twang you expect from a telecaster.

Excellent

By Soul Man

from Niles, Ohio

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar is one of the greatest I have ever played. The bridge pickup is truly phenomenal, and sounds great through a cranked up tube amp. While I admit the neck pickup isn't great until you crank up the volume, this guitar still rocks. Little to no difference from a mid range Fender, it should satisfy players of all ages, unless you are a high end snob. I am truly glad i purchased this guitar, and highly recommend it to people of any level of experience, The price is just to good to pass up!

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

As usual, as soon as I get a guitar I have the bridge/ nut / neck adjusted and I put a fresh set of strings on it. I can,t get over the flawless finish on this guitar. The neck is comfortable. The sound is clear and crisp. I own several Teles including an American Standard. I bought this guitar with a coupon. Squire guitars have come a long way. Another positive note about Teles is they are easily customized. I would recommend this guitar for beginners or as a back up.

        Great For Beginners

        By Cody

        from Phoenix, AZ

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar for beginners. The price is well suited for a guitar of this stature. The action on the guitar with the factory settings is extremely well set up, you hardly have to press down to get sound. The sound is beautiful for anything in this price range and also some guitars above this price range. Of course it doesn't sound as good as the Fender telecaster but it does produce a nice clean sound, and is great for soloing. I would recommend this guitar for any beginners who want to start playing guitar. Although i do recommend playing bass, because there are too many guitarists.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

There is nothing wrong with this guitar. I was most impressed with the neck. I recently bought a mexican tele and sent the neck away to have it smoothed down but I still prefer the neck on the Squier. I wasn't impressed with the pickups but when I put a set of EMG-T's in it the sound is incredible. Would not trade this guitar for any other on the market.

        Ok Guitar

        By Greg

        from Sciota, Pa

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this about a month ago as my first guitar. It's a good first guitar, but other than that I'd suggest something better. First the bad: The low e string has some buzz, it's tolerable unless you like to strum really hard then it'll probably drive you insane. The pic ups hum a lot, and that's very annoying. Also the jack broke on my first one as soon as i plugged it in at home. I took it back and they gave me a new one but that one broke within a week! It works, but it's gonna come apart soon. On the bright side the finish is excellent. I got the red one and it's beautiful. The neck is easy to play. Everything is smooth so you don't have to worry about cutting you're hand up. It stays in tune well, and sounds pretty good minus the annoying 60 cycle hum. It's also a pretty solid guitar and is well crafted(except for the cheap input jack). I'm gonna keep it for now and upgrade to a Les Paul or SG in a couple months when the jack completely falls apart on me.

Pickups are loud and clear. It has the same Tele twang I get on my American Deluxe...and it is great looking...very "Vintage-y"...love it...fun to play smooth fast neck super low action...just fun!

        Not merely a beginner's guitar

        By SEAN GOGUEN

        from Newburyport, MA

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

Let me start by saying that I started playing guitar as a kid back in the early 80s, and I have owned over 20 electric guitars (have played even more). I own guitars by Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, Epiphone and Washburn, to give you an idea of my perspective. I am amazed at how good this guitar is. This is a really good guitar, and not just for the money. It was set up perfectly right out of the box. The neck feels long and thick, but with a narrow fretboard - classic Fender, and the way I like it. The neck feels incredibly comfortable and smooth. The pickups are fairly low output, but they sound great; they produce a beautiful, ringing, glass-like tone in the middle position, a deeper, warmer tone in neck position (great for jazz), and a sharp, twangy tone in the bridge (great for country and blues). The range of tones, as with any good Telecaster, is amazing, making this an incredibly versatile guitar. The tone is neither shrill nor muddy - it's perfect. The tuners are decent - not as rock-solid as I like, but I've seen worse. Build quality feels like it's built like a tank. Nothing feels flimsy - I have a feeling this axe could last a lifetime. Granted, the hardware looks cheaper than what you'd find on a Fender Telecaster, but they still look good, and they do their jobs well. The only areas where I can see the cost-cutting is in the neck and the tone control. The neck is borderline unfinished, and looks and feels almost like bare wood. It doesn't look bad and has no effect on the guitar's performance, but I prefer a glossy finish, and it does look like Squier did this to save costs. As for the tone control, it's not as sensitive as a tone control on a more expensive guitar; I have to turn the knob almost all the way to get any noticeable change in tone. Not a big deal, since you can adjust the tone from the amp, but, again, the capacitor used here is probably not the best quality. Overall, though, I LOVE this guitar, because it sounds and feels amazing. I bought the butterscotch model with the black pickguard, and the body finish is totally pro and looks beautiful. I actually like this even more than my Fender Telecaster, believe it or not. Don't think that because it's only $179, it's only for beginners. Sure, it's marketed for beginners, but any level guitar player would enjoy the Affinity Telecaster. MY RATING: 8.5/10

        Make a good guitar GREAT!

        By Richard Sutterfield

        from Denver, Co

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

These aren't bad guitars right out of the box, but if you put a set of Fender Custom Shop Texas Special pickups on it, and a synthetic bone nut you will have a GREAT sounding Telecaster. Mentally picture the Billy Gibbons sound in Blue Jean Blues, or Merle Haggard playing, well, anything. That's what you get, and Guitar Center has everything you need. It's an easy project and good for learning how to work on guitars. It's worth putting the money into, the neck, tuners, body and electronics are fine, better quality than they used to be. If it has the unfinished maple neck and fingerboard, just sand off the sanding sealer and apply a few coats of Danish Oil to the entire neck. It will add age, beauty and protection from the elements. I did all this to one, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Looks and feels just as good as it sounds - fantastic!

        Squire Affinity Stratocaster -2014 model

        By Gerald

        from Garden Valley, Ca

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I was a bit skeptical that this guitar would be playable and well made, but based on the great reviews others have written on this guitar I decided to take a chance and buy it. I was pleasantly suprised by the quality of workmanship I found in my new affifinty strat! Smooth edges on both sides of the fingerboard and nut. Beautful paint finish. Strings were a little high for my taste so I lowered them down to my liking. No buzzes or problems while playing. The Intonation was dead on at the 12th fret. The neck was flat and required no adjusting. I play semi- pro and own several guitars that are much higher priced than the Squire Strat. I have to say that it is on equal footing with the mexican and USA versions of the Stratocasters I own. I may but two or three of these while they are so inexpensive :-)
