Overview

The Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar has a proud heritage and a sweet price. The contoured solid alder body is the same world-renowned style that fueled the fires of Hendrix, Clapton, SRV, and thousands more. Pure vintage tone comes pounding out of 3 biting single-coil pickups, taking on flavor from a classic rocking tremolo and 5-way switching. Genuine die-cast tuners provide unprecedented tuning stability in this price range. The headstock is the classic '70s "big" style. The maple neck plays fast and feels great. When you trade up, your Affinity Series Strat will be worth far more than any no-name copy.

In the long run, this is a good guitar. But once you begin learning more about them, it's flaws begin to show. The sound is ok and with distortion it gives a good nirvana like quality. After a while everything comes apart. The frets buzz, the action goes off, but like I said it still holds up. Good for non performers or curious guitarist. After the 1st year you probably would want to upgrade, I personally went to an Ibanez RG370DX and the Squier beginning really helped me switch, and appreciate the sound quality of Ibanez.

Very good for an Eric Clapton type of sound, but if you want "nu-metal" sound, I strongly suggest getting a guitar with active pickups. I got this guitar about 2 months ago. It has become my practice guitar. It is definitely worth the price. I'd also recommend getting the Mega-distortion 2 pedal. It is very awesome!

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this for my daughter as she is getting pretty good now. I was very impressed with the build quality. To check out how good these guitars are it's best to start unplugged and this guitar sounds great on its own. I will replace the nut with a bone one and I'll replace the trem system with a top line effort, but this is the point, this guitar is good enough to start the modding with, it has a good alder body and a straight and true neck, after that you can make it into whatever you want. Eventually I'll replace the pick ups with some SD hot rails, in a lesser guitar which sounded bad unplugged it would be a waste of time, but not in this, this is a keeper.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought one of these used. The tuners are great. The neck is amazing. The bridge is great. The guitar is very light. Mine was set-up amazingly with no fret buzz even when playing hard on power chords.

The only potential negatives here are related to the pickups. The pickups are very bright. I did a blind sound test on them compared to much more expensive guitars, and most folks chose the Squier sound over the American Fender. I was surprised, but they did. Also, since the pickups seem more cheaply made than the more expensive strats, the 60W hum is more pronounced and I'm guessing the pickups are more likely to give out over time.

That said, this guitar costs 5 times less than a MIA Strat and has given me less problems than any other guitar I've ever had.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

For the money, you really can't beat the Squiers. They are great playing guitars that feel as good (or better in some cases) to play than some of my guitars that are in the $1000+ price range. I have a used, candy apple red affinity Strat that I picked up for $80 and it's now my favorite practice axe. I tried it one day at a local music store nearby out of curiousity and I was amazed at how well it played. Plays like butter. I especially love the Affinity's because they are smaller and lighter than a normal Strat, but yet they don't feel like a toy guitar. The pickups and electronics are obviously not going to be as high quality as a US or Mexican made Strat, but what can you really expect at that price range. They are perfectly serviceable for a beginner to intermediate player, but an experienced player will probably replace the pickups and pots anyway. But the build quality and playability is what really surprised me. I've picked a few more Squiers in the meantime. They are great project guitars for the money.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this Squier as a project guitar. I'm going to take it apart to do mods. I've never taken a guitar apart before so I figured a low cost guitar would be a good place to start.

I'm surprised how good this thing sounded out of the box. It doesn't get a good tone for metal, but the blues tone it gets sounds fantastic. The Affinity Squier is a perfect instrument for someone who is a beginner or for anyone looking to experiment with taking a guitar apart for the first time.

I am 45 just learning how to play guitar. I had called a private guitar instructor, who highly recommended this guitar for a beginner not looking to sink a lot of money into it. His main recommendation after buying it was to have it properly set up, which he did. The before and after was amazing. I highly recommend starting on a guitar like this if you are on a tight budget or don't know if guitar is truely something you will stick with.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar a while back as a starter guitar not expecting much out of it. The more and more I played it, the more and more I was impressed with squier. I haven't changed the pickups since I bought the guitar and they are perfectly fine. I play everything from blues to hard rock to some metal. This guitar does very well with the blues and rock, and it even does well with metal. Pinch harmonics scream with this thing, especially with the bridge pickup.

This guitar is very versatile. It does everything from a warm thick tone on the neck pickup to a very twangy bridge pickup and everything in between.

The tuners have been the most impressive part of this guitar. They hardly ever slip out of tune. I even have the whammy bar on mine and use it quite often. Tuning stays the same.

Overall this guitar is an amazing starter guitar that can actually be used a bit more than you would think.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Look, this is not a golden jewel out of the box though mine played fine, however, with some work it is amazingly good. Almost all guitars claim to need a pro set up and fret leveling and crowning out of the box. Virtually all recommend it. In that respect this is no different. I did my leveling and crowning. I switched out the pickups for some much better ones of my choice, however you can find all sorts at all sorts of prices. I changed to locking tuners and changed the pots. You can say I rebuilt it, but I would have done much of the same things on any guitar under $1500 or so. IN the end, it has excellent tone and feel and is a lot of fun to play.

The only negative is this. Remember it is a small guitar with a short scale. The strings are closer together and the nut width is narrower. It takes getting used to and realizing what you can and what you can't use it for, if you have bigger fingers.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've bought 4 or 5 Affinity Strats, one Affinity Telecaster and an Affinity Musicmaster. I grind down the radius of the neck on all my guitars and I have done the same thing for several other musicians. I don't want to risk ruining an expensive guitar so I bought the Affinities. For the price I have found them to be absolutely excellent. They all have had at least one fret that buzzes but I find that acceptable on a practice guitar. I have two that sound so good I use live and to record so I fixed the fret problem--not an easy job but do-able. The Strats are slightly smaller and lighter than a standard Strat but that is one of the features that I like best--making them an excellent choice for a smaller (or older) person.
