I was looking for a cheap bass to have at home. I played a black model in store and thought it was pretty nice for the $$$. Saw that Musician's Friend had the Red model priced $50 below, and had GC price match. The bass I received has a few issues. the A string rattles at both the nut and the bridge. Fret buzz all over the neck. Controls are loose and the input jack does not hold a cable well. I will be looking to either return the bass, or see if GC will address these issues at no cost.

IF you are able to play the actual bass you are buying and it seems solid, buy it. Otherwise I would stay clear.

Awesome beginner bass!

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ, Rosewood Fingerboard:

I have been playing guitar 5 years and wanted to learn bass for awhile now. I love looping and was tired of doing baselines with a guitar and having a bass now it is so much better. I can't believe this bass sounds this good. After setting the bass up it doesn't buzz at all. Tuners hold very well and for this price, it is a great beginner or even experienced bass guitar to have for a bassist or guitarist.

Very good base Bass Guitar to build on.

By Randall

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ, Rosewood Fingerboard:

I play a lot of 60s style Hot Rod & Surf music. No tremendous Jazz soloing here! I was looking for a project bass to Hot Rod. Slap a racing stripe on it to really look the part. It's been a hobby of mine to buy inexpensive basses and modify them. Spent a lot of money over the years but it's been fun. That's what a hobby should be about, right? Lately though I find that I want to play more rather than mess around with guitars so, I bought this Squire to give it one last shot. After trying it out at the local GC I was very impressed. I was disappointed that it was made in China but I can't afford American so... I replaced the pick ups with Duncan Designs that came out of a Squire PBass years ago. Replaced the nut with a GraphTech. D'Addario flatwoun strings. And the capacitor with a .56K. That's it. I'm very satisfied with it. I put a beefier Gotoh bridge on it but it seemed to muffle the tone. I like a warm, low tone but it sounded like mud. Definitely like the stock bridge sound. I bought the black model and I'm thinking about buying a red one for a back up and do the same changes to that one. Hope this helps.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ, Rosewood Fingerboard:

Before you read my review, you should know that I am primarily a guitarist and this is my first bass guitar. I decided that I would get a bass for song writing, recording and such, and was looking for an inexpensive and versatile bass. I first saw this bass online, but was a little skeptical as it's from the Squier affinity series. I was at my local guitar center about a month later and saw one on the wall. I was curious so I plugged it in and started playing. I bought it on the spot.

The neck and body of this bass feel just as good as my buddy's Fender American P Bass, and the tones it produces are great. The P bass pickup delivers a booming bottom end, and the J bass pickup in the bridge produces a bright, crisp tone. The added bridge pickup, and the individual volume knobs that let you blend the two pickups together however you want, make this bass very versatile. I personally love the funky sound the bass produces when both pickups are turned all the way up. The pickups themselves are great too. I have no problem getting the tones that I want (I run it through a Fender Rumble 40 which I also picked up GC and will be writing a review on). The tone control is also very responsive and quite usable.

On to the cons. When plugged in, it produces a bit of hum. This can be quieted by touching any of the metal components on the bass including the strings, so it shouldn't be a problem while playing. There's also some fret buzz when playing on the lower frets, but it's not much of a problem for me as it doesn't come through the amp and could probably be fixed with a decent setup (had the bass for over a month now and haven't gotten around to it yet as the stock setup is comfortable and quite playable)

Overall this is a great bass for beginners and even advanced players who are looking for a solid bass to add to their collection or to mod. Got it in metallic red to match my red strat, and it it looks fantastic.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ, Rosewood Fingerboard:

This bass is far better than I ever expected. With better pickups and a switchcraft jack + a good set-up
This Affinity bass can hold its own next to the top of the line. I truly believe that. I've been playing guitars for 35 years, and I've owned the best and worst.
In this modern age, China has really pulled it together and fender/Squier has definitely stepped up their game on the Affinity models. It' no longer necessary to look at Agile or SX bass guitars to get the Fender feel and sound. But, the affinity pickups must be replaced with AVRI spec type. Get the true vintage sound.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ, Rosewood Fingerboard:

Playing at home, occasionally with a friend. The Affinity series has come a long way and especially over the last few years. The paint finishes and hardware are on par with the price, but the quality of the necks has vastly improved. Very nice fret finishing and the action is very adjustable - you can get it as low as some very pricey basses. Not a professional's instrument from a durability standpoint, but a great value for the beginner to intermediate player.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ, Rosewood Fingerboard:

First off, there is no better bass for the price, period. Once it is set up, quality strings.... it plays and sounds as good as any of the higher end Fenders. I'm not kidding, I own both MIA and Professional Series American Fenders. I was concerned that the pick ups would be weak, not at all! no hum from the jazz pick up either! The split coil Precision pick sounds pretty nice too! Not only that, the pick ups are balanced fairly well... and the tone pot has a great range, which you won't find on even the Standard Mexican fenders! It even has a Alder body! Not Agathis like the Squire Modified P bass... The fit and finish is quite good, and the neck is pretty good as well Nice smooth finish on the back, no polyurethane and mine didn't have any sharp edges on the fret board. The only thing is, the frets and fairly short but does not seem to affect the playability. But again, this is a inexpensive instrument, they have to save money some where... Mine weighs in at 8 lbs 4oz. I don't know if I just got a good one, but am totally impressed with this PJ bass. Don't hesitate getting one! best value out there....

I planed to install a set of Gezzer Butler pickups... but the sound right out of the box was impressive... if it ain't broke don't fix it right? Squire Affinity has truly come a long way since the 20th Anniversary P-Bass. I couldn't decide between black or white... went with black planning to mod me a Black Sabbath tribute. I'll buy a white one now that I know the quality... just to have. Since the Gezzers are active I'll need to address the battery... so I'll probably order a custom body with a battery compartment... rear mounted pots too. Totally built from scratch.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ, Rosewood Fingerboard:

This bass is pretty decent for beginners. I bought it to see if I would like playing the bass. Luckily I do, but after a year and a half, this bass isn't for me. There is a lot of fret buzz and the tone isn't the best. Now this is a Squier, so it's not going to be a Fender or a Rickenbacker so everything isn't going to be perfect.

Again, this is a good beginner bass. My friend and I play a lot together and it's good for home practice. I learned a lot of songs with it and am pretty happy with is performance up until recently, since I've decided to get a new bass. If you're looking for a cheap bass for a project, or for a kid who's learning to play, or maybe need an upgrade, I'd say go for it. Other than that, I'd say save your money and buy a little higher quality bass.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ, Rosewood Fingerboard:

I bought this bass planning to upgrade the tuners and pickups. I own a 20th Anniversary Squier P-Bass. The tuners had almost a 1/4 turn of lash, so I upgraded them to Schaller BM-4s... and changed the pickup to a Seymour Duncan PB-3 Quarter Pounder. I intended to replace the pickups on this PJ Bass with a EMG Gezzer Butler set. I was pleasantly surprised. This is one fine bass. I get the tone I want from the Jazz pickup alone and there is no lash in the tuners. Several reviews mention fret buzz. I don't see any on mine... If it ain't broke... I've built and/or modified nine Stratocasters, three Telecasters, and two P-Basses... Several of the bodies are Squier Affinitys and while there is little consistency between them... Parts may not be interchangeable - just try to find a P-Bass pickguard that doesn't require adjustments... Squiers have certainly come a long way...

I play The Sex Pistols tribute band and I couldn't afford to go out and buy $1,000 or $1,500 white P Bass with a black pickguard.
The Squier Affinity series P bass is perfect for what I need it for

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ, Rosewood Fingerboard:

I needed to get a new bass since the one I was currently borrowing was asked to be returned. So, on a budget, and on a short schedule for when I am in need of a bass, I drove on over to my local Guitar Center (after researching the night before) and picked up this little gem. I'm no expert, but this bass plays really well. It's a little heavier than my last one, but that is overlooked thanks to how well I think it plays. I have yet to try it amped up, since I am without one right now, but after trying it at the store, I'm sure it will play well amped. Anyway, this bass is one I would recommend to beginners or bassists on a budget. Or to those who really don't care and thinks it looks cool (like me).
