By AnissaAcoff

from Akron, OH

Comments about Squier Affinity Series 5-String Jazz Bass V:

I just bought this bass 2 days ago and its the best bass I've ever had, I dont have a lot of money to buy musicman or anything, this bass suites me just fine. It's perfect quality for 212 dollars and I haven't had a problem like with other bass, like the s&t custom or the lyon washburn, i recommend beginner or professinal to use, its excellent

Great Guitar

By Frank

from Norther VA

Comments about Squier Affinity Series 5-String Jazz Bass V:

Simply an outstanding deal. The finish and workmanship is flawless, every bit as good as my Fender 4 -string Jazz. Great tone! Frets are smooth, and the setup was nice and low with no fret buzz right out of the box. Volume and tone controls are nicely graduated, enabling you to make small adjustments easily. String spacing is a wee bit more generous than some other 5-strings, and this is one of the main reasons I chose this bass. It easily worth twice what I paid for it. The black model I bought looks great, but I do wish they still offered it in the Arctic white/white pickguard scheme.

The best

By Zac

from Lombard, IL

Comments about Squier Affinity Series 5-String Jazz Bass V:

this bass is great, i needed to find a bass quick for small money and to be able to find a 5 string would really help me in the genre i play. there was only one problem but im sure it only happened when the b string was put on, where one of the screws on the bridge kept on loosening and part of the bridge was crooked on that same string. all of this caused a lot of rattling in that string. it was all fixed by taking off the string and evening it out. this bass could be used from rock to jazz to metal. great overall!

THE killer bass deal of all time!

By Kurt Kurosawa

from Yorktown, Virginia

Comments about Squier Affinity Series 5-String Jazz Bass V:

I bought this based on other reviews and they were right. It's a remarkable deal. The bass plays and sounds no differently than the Fender 5-string Jazz with inline Gotohs that I played back in the early 90s. The B is somewhat floopy, as you'd expect with a 34" scale, and the alder-maple-rosewood combination makes it sound like a J is supposed to sound. The pickups are fine the way they are. Everyone seems to want to mod a budget bass as soon as they get it, but there's no real need. Yes, the electronics buzz as they do with every other J on the planet, but that's the point--it's just like every other J on the planet, only way cheaper. There are no dead spots anywhere on the neck the way I became accustomed to Fender dead spots (OK, if you're picky, there might be the faintest hint in the G on the D string and the C, C# and D on the G string, but like I said, nothing we'd have called a dead spot back in the day, and we probably would have praised the evenness of response of this neck). This might be attributable to the P neck width, which makes for wonderfully uncramped playing. Except for string intonation and that the far screw on the bridge section for the E string was loose and rattled, the bass was set up ready to go just the way it arrived in the mail. I've been playing for a while, since I was 14 as a hobby, and for a living from age 21 to 51, and being something of a gearhead, I've played skillions of basses in that time. I laid off for the past 8 years and just picked this up simply because I don't have a 5. This bass is something else. I guess I've mellowed over the years. A little buzz is nothing that bothers me, and I don't need the most powerful pickups in the world or the wildest onboard electronics. I just want something that's eminently playable and that makes all the sounds a bass is supposed to make, and that's what I've got here, plus the attack, the out-of-nowhere roundhouse punch of this thing when played with a light touch is simply unbelievable. Maybe I'd lose that if I were to install hotter pickups or a heavier bridge. I don't know, but I'm not eager to kill that magic, not at all. There's an Arab story that a bedouin who was wandering the desert ran across the Garden of Eden, and there was every good thing to eat, so he stayed for years, but then he noticed there was no onion. So he left and got his onion, but he never found his way back and he's still out there looking for the Garden. And maybe you old-timers remember when Chuck Rainey went nuts over an ultra-sustain bridge and had them hog out his perfect bass to install it. The last time I saw him he had another bass. Maybe this isn't a bass for the young, at least not most of them who are looking for magic but always figuring it's out there somewhere, never in their own hands, especially when the decal on the headstock isn't magic. But for you old-timers who know what's good, what's necessary, and what's not, I think this 5 might have been built just for you and me.

Great Starter Bass

By Tommy

from West Warwick, RI

Comments about Squier Affinity Series 5-String Jazz Bass V:

If you want to be playing 5-string bass, then this is a great starter bass. It makes a great sound and feels good playing it so I don't want to put it down. I've let other bass players I know try it out and they agree with me.

great bass for the price

By luisito781

Comments about Squier Affinity Series 5-String Jazz Bass V:

this bass plays really good the only thing is there is a lot of buzz on the 5th string and not that great for big gigs. This is a good backup/practice bass to have or if your switching from a 4 string to a 5 string. One great thing is this bass is really good for slapping and popping.

I was NOT dissapointed

By MLH

from San Bernardino, CA

Comments about Squier Affinity Series 5-String Jazz Bass V:

I am 54 years old and have been around the block a couple of times. My other bass is a real '65 precision bass not the vintage re-issue. This bass is comparable to the original. The negative comments I've seen regarding the Squier do not seem to be true for me. It weighs only a pound more than my precision, the pickups perform well even on the B string and it seems to stay in tune. This is not the bass with active pickups. That one did seem very heavy in comparison. Since I have never used active pickups I see no need for them. my Ampeg BA210SP handles it just fine including slap and pop sounds. The price is only a bonus.

one sick bass

By wordfresh

from little rock AR

Comments about Squier Affinity Series 5-String Jazz Bass V:

i got this bass about a year ago in canada. and i really wasn't looking for a five string bass but this one stole my heart. i only had to do some light adjustments when it came down to the set up so i wasn't to torn up about it. had some problems with the fith string though so you have to find a really tight and crisp sounding set of strings to make it reall pop. this bass takes it back to the origional days, no active pickups or frilly stuff. don't expect it to be easy to customize. but great bass

AWESOME!

By Paul Yuma AZ

from Yuma AZ

Comments about Squier Affinity Series 5-String Jazz Bass V:

Ive been playing bass for about 14 years now with only 1 guitar by Dean Guitars. Ive always wanted a Fender but well could never afford one. I stopped in Guitar Center while on a out of town trip and saw this bass thought id try it out. Needless to say i fell in love. I took it home same day made some adjustments on the action and been gig'n with it ever since. I gig on a regular basis at least 3 weekends a month. I get alot of compliments on it and for the price you cant beat it. So if you think Squire is cheap and not good quality your wrong. would recommend this bass to anyone..
