This is an excellent bass pack to start with, it is relatively cheap, and everything works well right out of the box. Getting a stand to go with it is a must, but other than that, everything you need to start playing is included. I've had this bass going on 9 months, and it has for the most part been reliable. Pickups work fine, and it's fun to play around with the sound with the volume adjustments, although you can't produce an enormous range in tone. All the hardware seems to work well, and it stays properly tuned for a pretty long time. the frets can stick out a bit from the edge, and I've cut myself once or twice when I slid down the fretboard with my fingers too close to the edge. I would advise filing or sanding them down, given how inexpensive the bass is. The biggest problem I had with the bass is the output jack. Mine was extremely loose, and the nut holding it in place would get loose enough to freely spin off every few days. I could tighten it with my fingers to a reasonable extent, but it was still irritating. In the last week, I decided to make a more permanent solution and used pliers to tighten the nut as much as my strength would allow. Sadly, I had not considered that there was a wire attached to the jack, and shortly after the tightening, I found there was no output. When I opened the pickguard up, I saw that the wire which connected the output to the frequency adjustment had torn loose because it is very short. Sadly the bass is currently unusable as I don't have the time to buy soldering supplies right at the moment. Hopefully this will serve as a cautionary tale to would-be buyers and you can be more careful than I was. As for the other parts included in the pack: gig bag - doesn't provide the protection of a molded case, but is light and much easier to handle, I never had any trouble with it when I transported my bass around, but it does feel kind of flimsy. strap - not very comfortable, but functional, I never really used it since I had another better one lying around, but it seemed acceptable. cord - absolute rubbish. Buy a braided cord or ask the people at your music store for a recommendation. the jack basically tore out of the end of the cable in a matter of weeks. amp/speaker - admittedly I know close to nothing about amps, but when I plugged in the bass and played, noises came out that seemed to correspond to what I wanted to come out. Not super high sound quality or volume, but definitely acceptable for practice or showing off to your friends. It lets you plug in another sound source (like an mp3 player) if you have a stereo cable, and you can plug in the included headphones if you have an adapter. EQ didn't seem to do much though. headphones - possibly my favorite part of the whole pack, these have shockingly high sound quality (although the bass is lacking compared to bass-emphasizing headphones like Beats) a little analog volume control on the cord is pretty handy, and also has a mic built in. the cord is very long, definitely long enough to stand up and play with the headphones plugged into the amp. I've started using these as my everyday headphones, although the long cord is a little inconvenient for that. tuner - works fine, the bass seemed right in tune when I played along with songs, and the interface is easy to understand and use. If you want a better one, a lot of people recommend the Snark clip on tuner, which I have found works very well. DVD - I didn't even bother looking at this, there's much better tutorials on youtube, and I also had a teacher initially. Probably wouldn't hurt to watch it, but google is probably at least as good a resource.

AWESOME

By Gabriel S.

Comments about Squier Affinity Jazz Bass Pack:

This bass is amazing. I have several basses, and in my personal opinion, with a little tweaking this bass can hold its own against fenders. I absolutely love this bass. If you are beginner, this is probably the best package you can get for yourself. I received a mexican fender for graduation, and I still occasionally choose this over it. I use it everywhere! It has held up to every challenge. The package is great. The amp is not amazing, but you don't need an amazing amp to start. You can certainly get volume out of it, and it can get some pretty good tones. Everything else has held up! Some of my friends buy other bass packages to start. They are almost immediately disappointed. This is the best way to start! Thank you squire!

Value for the beginner

By HeadHunter

Comments about Squier Affinity Jazz Bass Pack:

I picked up the red Squier J-Bass today, but I did not get it as part of this pack. I wanted to be able to select the components and be sure of what I was getting. I have a Korg CA-1 chromatic tuner so I didn't need one of those, and I've got a couple of decent aftermarket straps I'd like to use instead of the basic narrow web straps that come in most of these bundles. A few reviews have mentioned the questionable reliability of the cable, so I spent a few dollars more and got a better one that's made by LiveWire (which GC owns, so it's covered by them). I don't need a gig bag yet (since I don't plan on taking it anywhere soon) but when I do, I want to invest in one that will better protect my instrument. The amp that comes in this bundle is good, but there's a newer model of the Rumble 15 with metal input and output jacks rather than the plastic ones on the amp in this kit. I'm sure the new model will make its way into these bundles eventually, but in the meantime I like the more reliable fittings on the new standalone Rumbles. The bass itself is an EXCELLENT instrument for the beginner. I like the narrower nut and the taper of a J-Bass neck over the bulkier P-Bass alternative. This neck makes for easy playing and fretting from the first fret all the way down to the 12th and beyond. I can easily get my pinky up onto the E string here, which is something I couldn't quite do on the Precision. Altogether, I spent perhaps $20 more than the package price and got better quality hardware for it. If the bundle came with the new Rumble 15 and a better cable, I'd easily rate this 5 stars (the J-Bass itself is 5-stars hands-down, no contest). If you are a beginner and you need the tuner, the gig bag and all the other accessories, then it's worth the savings to buy the bundle. If you'd rather pick and choose, or if you have some of the stuff already, you're better of buying the bass separately and selecting the amp and gear you like.

A great value!

By George M

Comments about Squier Affinity Jazz Bass Pack:

This Jazz Bass Pack is a great combination of quality and price! I'm a newbie, so I showed it to a couple of friends who are very accomplished guitarists, and they loved it. The guitar is very well made; I like the dark blue metallic finish. The amp sounds very good. I'm glad I read other people's reviews, because they have noted that the strap is on the flimsy side and it looks that way to me also. I didn't want to take a chance on the strap breaking and possibly damaging the guitar, so I purchased a more durable after-market strap ASAP. Kudos to the staff at Guitar Center store in Carle Place, NY. They were extremely patient and helpful with my order. I would definitely do business with them anytime!

WOW!!

By Kaler

Comments about Squier Affinity Jazz Bass Pack:

This is the best bass i've ever owned. The tone is very warm, and cuts through the insanity of my hardcore punk band nicely. The neck on it is very slim and fast, and upper fret access is a dream. All the hardware is perfect, i didn't even upgrade the bridge like i usually do. Bottom line: This bass is better than any other bass in this price range, period.

Great starter

Comments about Squier Affinity Jazz Bass Pack:

The amp is very solid and the bass is not bad either, though the sound of the bass could be better. I own the black version and I like it a lot. The amp is very compact and can throw out sound really well. This is one of the best begginer sets out there,it even comes with a DVD for begginers like me.

Comments about Squier Affinity Jazz Bass Pack:

Good package! The bass is pretty good, the amp is great and the tuner is fine. The only problem i had was with the strap. It kept coming off while I was playing. Besides that, this is a pretty good bass package.

great bass

By danielle

Comments about Squier Affinity Jazz Bass Pack:

i just bought this bass the other day, and i absolutely love it, especially because i'm a beginner and just learning. first off, it's a beautiful bass, i got the red one. the amp sounds great and can go very loud. i haven't looked at the book or watched the DVD yet. the cable is really long, too. the headphones are great quality and are very useful to me when i want to play when others are asleep. the case is pretty good too, it'll probably last a while. the strap is nice too, and stays on there quite well. my only complaint is that the tuner is kind of cheap and that one of the knobs on my bass was kind of twisted, but that was easily fixed. i love my new bass, it's tons of fun to play, and i would reccomend it to anyone beginning. :]

Great Bass.

By Christian

from Jackson Heights, New York.

Comments about Squier Affinity Jazz Bass Pack:

I just want to say, this is a great bass. I tested it at Guitar Center before actually buying it and it was absolutely great. I was really surprised. There are so many different sounds on this great instrument and I my self have not heard them all yet. The only disappointment that I found was that the input Jack became very loose and it's almost broken. The tuner is also a little bit off. While the tuner does recognize true tune, it does have a lot of trouble recognizing if a string is in tune, especially in my acoustic guitar. But other wise this was a great buy and I am not disappointed, especially since Fender is a brand that I don't usually use.

Comments about Squier Affinity Jazz Bass Pack:

My son loved the Jazz Bass guitar and amp; started playing right away X-Mas morning. He liked the solid tone and feel of it. The headphones are great, and very handy when he wants to practice and not bother anyone else. We own 3 other guitars (1 electric:Les Paul Custom+2 accoustic) this one rates and plays as well as any other.

'I am so happy right now'

By John Parker

from Roseville CA

Comments about Squier Affinity Jazz Bass Pack:

Those were the words of my 14 yr. old grandson on Christmas Day when he unwrapped his Fender Affinity Jazz Pack from GuitarCenter. The pack included all that he needed to get started. In minutes he had the bada_ _ black Fender IV string bass strapped and amped. In a single word he described his new bass guitar from GuitarCenter as "Awesome". I recommend it to anyone who is trying to decide which guitar is the right one to get started. The guitar pack was ordered online at GuitarCenter.com. The transaction was secure, quick and easy. The bonus was being able to have the guitar pack picked up at a store in another state near my daughter's home. GuitarCenter telephoned her when the guitar was in stock and ready for pick up. I'd do it again!

My first and only bass and I've got to say its pretty sweet.

By Lifeless Gamer

from Michigan

Comments about Squier Affinity Jazz Bass Pack:

I'm new to bass so I probably can't say how good this is to other basses, but it sounds good to me and other bassists I know say it sounds good. The amp is good too; it does it's job and it doesn't ever get very noisy. It is very hard to be as loud as the guitarist and drummer in my band though, so if you are in a band or are going to be in a band, you'll probably want a bigger amp. As soon as I can afford it I'm getting something louder.

Bad Production

By Troy H.

from San Antonio, Texas

Comments about Squier Affinity Jazz Bass Pack:

Well I got this bass package on Saturday and returned it the same day. The guitar looks good and plays well only problem was that the electronics in the guitar were bad out of the box. I went back later on that night to see if i could get another one. The employees there said that everyone of the fender packages (including the precession bass) were all bad. There was even one with a broken bridge out of the box. So i came back home with the Dean bass package. I thought Fender was suppose to be one of the best.
