I love this bass!
I've always preferred the Precision Bass size and shape, but have medium-sized hands, so I prefer the slimmer, Jazz Bass neck. This bass has the best of both worlds: P-bass body, J-bass neck, and both P and J pickups. I own two of these and both came nearly perfectly set up. I did lower the strings just a bit on one of them, but other than that, both were ready to play right out of the box. The pickups are very good for the price the P pickups have no hum (they cancel each other's hum). The J pickup adds a little hum because it's a single coil.
One great feature of this bass is that it has one volume for the P pickups and one for the J pickup. I usually turn up the P pickups full and then blend in a little J, which is wired out-of-phase, so adding in the J pickup adds a little Strat-like quack, which I really like. It helps the bass cut through an be heard.
The fit and finish of this bass are equivalent to basses costing twice as much. My only regrets are that it does not come with a maple fretboard as an option and I would prefer a humbucking J pickup, like the American P-Bass Deluxe, but for this price, you absolutely cannot buy a better value in a bass.

Great for beginners
Alright, so, if you are looking for a fairly simple bass or want a nice fender lookalike, I recommend it. It's got a nice dependable tone, but not very punchy at all. If you are into playing dirty, grungy punk, like me, this is a good starter.

I love bargains
I don't actually love bargains because they usually aren't. This Bass is. I got a perfectly set up black off the floor for 200 and it is simply incredible for my purposes -- a guitarist who will play bass in a band that's not my own rather than sit at home. Whether it's a Custom shop or made in China -- play as many as you can and then buy the one that feels best and play it until the wood shows.

Nice, but there is better...
This is a nice bass from Squier, but if your looking into a high quality bass you should save up your money and by a Fender... its worth the money.. its like the saying you get what you pay for...
