Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Bass Special (H89881)
Availability:

A bass built for the player on a budget who isn't willing to compromise on sound or style.

Squier is very proud to introduce its new Telecaster Bass Special, which presents an exciting new sonic and stylish twist on a long-familiar design.

Its time-honored body and headstock shape are well balanced by a comfortable medium scale length (32") that will appeal to bassists and guitarists alike. Remarkable tonal versatility comes from its large chrome-covered Fender-designed Wide Range humbucking neck pickup, Duncan Designed JB-102B single-coil Jazz Bass bridge pickup, and three-way blade switching (both pickups together and each pickup individually).

Other distinctive features include black "barrel" switch tip, knurled chrome control knobs, vintage style bridge with four chrome saddles, vintage-style tuners and strap buttons, and single-ply pickguard (white on Black model, black on Vintage Blonde model).

  • Very nice!

As reviewed by TRAVIS HOPKINS on 8/2/2013

I love the look of this bass and was intrigued with the pickups and how it would sound. It arrived needing the truss rod tightened and the bridge pickup looked like someone went on break in the middle of installation. After a few minor adjustment tweaks it was ready to go. There are also sections on the body that the darker wood is bleeding thru. I kind of like this flaw? The sound: I took it to practice and I turned the mids on my amp all the way down, bass and treble all the way up. Sounded fat and creamy sort of like a Gibson SG ( I owned one for a short time). The only setting I liked it on was the 2 pickup selection. Neck pickup too muddy by itself. If it didn't have the single coil bridge pickup this bass would be going back. It brings the tone alive combined with the neck pickup. The sound really cut thru the mix as good as any bass I have ever played. Playability and balance: This dude is heavy. Probably 10-11 pounds. Balance though is excellent. No lean or neck dive at all. This is the first time I have played a maple fretboard in 30 years and I really liked it. Neck felt very easy to play and did not feel like a short scale bass. Body shape works on this bass.

  • squier vintage modified telecaster bass special review

As reviewed by Justin Trevino on 11/11/2013

I've always wanted a tele bass with a humbucker pickup, so when I learned that squier had this one available I decided to try it. This bass completely lives up to it's advertisement! It plays great and sounds great, and everything on it feels good and solid. I couldn't be any happier!

  • Great medium scale bass for the $$

As reviewed by John Hassell on 4/18/2014

Needed a slightly shorter bass to make playing more comfortable. This is a medium scale that doesn't feel like a toy! Great variety of tones are available. Great passive bass!
