  stopped by g center. played a sg classic and then played this squier jazzmaster. i could not believe it, the squier felt and sounded better. maybe this was an exceptional squier off the line, but these are def. worth checking out. the more guitars i play, the less i judge them by the price or country of origin. these are nice.

• GOOD GUITAR, BUT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER

  Upon arrival, the body of the guitar looked good...no scratches. I noticed on the neck some cosmetic corrections. Also, along the edge of the neck at some points was green, as if the wood still needed to be "cured". I checked the toggle switch and noticed that it moved in the direction of the body and the neck, rather up and down like a Les Paul. The volume and tone controls are concentric with the volume in the center and the tone surrounding it. Also, each individual pickup has it's own volume control...the neck at the top and the bridge at the bottom. This is the opposite of the way a "STRAT" is set up and did cause confusion when I played. Furthermore, I noticed that when turned down, the pickups never completely turned off. Lastly, the volume controls needed a little adjustment since they were hitting the tone ring. The neck is different than a lot of Fenders and it also took time to adjust to. Unfortunately, there was some sticky substance on it which was easily removed when I replaced the strings. The action is a little too high for most players, but I like the way they set it since my style is blues like and I stretch the strings a lot. What I didn't like is this neck only goes to a Db (the same as my Mexican STRAT) and I found myself having to stretch to reach the high notes. The best part of this guitar are the pickups and the sound. Even though these are Duncans, the have captured the Fender sound extremely well. The output is great and out performs the STRATs single coils. The neck pickup has a rich solid sound and the bridge very bright. I found myself dialing down the treble on both pickups a little. The headstock came with a yellow finish liked it had already aged, but I really liked the effect and it seem to add to the guitar. Also, along side the words SQUIER and FENDER, artistic lines were drawn giving it a very pleasant appearance. The worst part of this guitar is the bridge/tailpiece. It looks really cheap and is only held on by one screw. However, it doesn't seem to be a big problem and is something that I can live with. OVERALL, it's a fun ax to play with amazing sustain and great tone. This could have been a great guitar if Fender had put a little more money into it's hardware and improved on a few other features already mentioned above.

  I just picked up my Squier Jazzmaster from Guitar Center today. I must say I was very impressed with it. The sunburst finish looks flawless. The pick-ups have a nice clarity and low noise. The hardtail bridge, although somewhat cheaper looking than the traditional jazzmaster bridge, definitely will stay in tune better. It has very nice sustain, which may be helped by the hardtail. All in all, a very nice guitar for the money.
