I purchased the 3-Tone Sunburst from Guitar Center a week ago. I am an experienced guitar player and own several high end Custom Shop and lower end guitars.
For the price tag, this Squire Jag is a great deal. I honestly was not expecting the quality of this guitar. The wood looks very nice and has lots of character. The tuning machines seem like higher end tuners. I have seen cheaper tuning machines on other guitars priced the same.
The pickups are great! I wouldn't say they are hot as what you would find on an American Jag, but they are nice sounding and you can pull off the Surf guitar tone very well. You may want to raise them a bit. All and all the pickups are great. They don't have a lot of bottom. This is a great surf guitar and a guitar to add textures such as the guitar player from The Killers, or the Edge from U2. That's what this guitar can pull off.
You may read out there that people complain that there is a buzz on the bridge. This is because the guitar is not setup properly. You need to raise the action and adjust the truss rod on these. Also, since it's a shorter scale, you will want heavier gauge strings with this guitar. I recommend 11's.
If you have buzz on some strings on the bridge, then raise the action. The tension needs to be right. My Jag has 0 buzz and 100% tone.
For the price tag, this is a great guitar!
The neck is noticeably thinner and the bridge can go out of wack if you whammy a little too hard a little too often but for the price it's a nice cheap little guitar.
