I just got back from my local Guitar Center, where I played and compared about 20 different basses for three or so hours and ended up buying this Fender Squire JAG HB Special. Whoever wrote that they couldn't get a warm tone is a retard, don't listen to him. I've been playing bass for 23 years, and have owned many different rigs over that time. I say this bass has great tone. Solid, low-noise/high-output humbucking single pickup. Any tone from soft, warm jazz, to slappy funk, to solid well defined metal, or whatever you need it to do. Great minimalist looks. Decent weight to it (not too heavy, not too light). Records well with the active EQ. I compared this bass to many basses in the $600-$1,000 range, and it compared well if not better than most of those. It makes you realize how much people will pay for a brand name instead of just what they need to get the job done well.Easily the best one I found for the price range. Did I mention minimal buzzing? Especially when compared to the Ibanez in the same price range. Buy It! If it's not right for you You can't go wrong!`
Took my Dean Edge 09 in for a repair and tried every bass on the wall through the same amp I own (Acoustic BA50). The Squier Jag HB had the best sound of them all, although the used BC Rich sounded awesome, just too much damage. I do not own the Dean anymore. The Jag HB is no residing in my stand instead. Great bargain and almost infinite sound possibilities. Can't find ANYTHING not right with it. Well, one thing, I don;t like red for my bass, but hey it was all they had. BUY IT!!!! You will NOT be disappointed!!!
This was my first ever bass...and it is definetly worth the $200 I spent. If you are starting off...i recomend this bass. Even if you are looking for a good bass i recomend it. Just grab this, a b20 Acoustic amp, some acessories, and a book(preferably the Hal Lenoard Bass Method Beginners Pack) and you'll rockin fast. Only problem is it doesnt have a full 24 frets. So songs popular to the bass such as Orion cannot b played. However by the time you can play Orion...just get another bass.
