• Squier Does It Again!

  I've always been intrigued by the Jaguar bass, but was a bit overwhelmed by the numerous controls of the original - too many dials and switches! So, when I spied Squier's 'Uncluttered Cat' in sleek black, block inlays, retro (and very functional) stack knobs, and tortise-shell pick guard, I tried one out and was extremely impressed. The P/J pickup configuration gives this bass flexibility in dialing in a wide range of tones, and the Duncan-designed pickups are very responsive, but quiet. The Jazz-style neck is very even and accessible up and down. The entire instrument is a study in balance. There are no 'gotcha's with this axe; it's a true player! The Jaguar plays and sounds as good as it looks. For the money, you just can't go wrong!

  When I was at GC, I saw this hanging on the wall, and tried it out. My first thought was that it was a re-hash of the Fender Jaguar bass, which had 2 J pickups. I was playing on it, and was impressed with the overall tone. It's got the tighter highs like a Jazz Bass, but less nassally as it has the P pickup in the neck position. Controls are similar to a '62 Jazz, so a bit more versitlie than the standard 2 volume 1 tone setup. As I was playing it, I noticed the pickups said "Duncan Designs", and realized it was actually a Squier. I play American Standard Precision basses, and found this thing to be quite impressive! Squier has superceded their reputation of making Christmas guitars with their Vintage Modified series. This Jaguar, the modded P-Basses, and the Jazz Basses have been comparable to Fender Standards, and half the price! This bass doesn't just sound "good for the price", it actually sounds good for a bass in the $500-$800 range as well.

• Jaguars Rule

  Great Bass for a Squire and plays close to a fender. The neck has pearl inlays and is easy to play. The bass is heavy as all Fenders are so if you need a smaller bass look elsewhere as whereing this bass at a two hour gig could wear the average guitar player out. The neck is fast if you have large hands and the sound is full, deep toned and sounded great thru an Accouistic Amp with 20 watts for home practice or recording. The tuning keys are great and I only have to tune the bass like three times a month with moderste playing time.The Duncan design pickups are great for jazz, country, and Rock. For metal you will need humbucking pickups you can replace the pickups or get an Ibenez with thinner neck, lighter body, and humbuckers. Go to Guitar Center and try out this bass before you buy it and see if its a fit for you. Overall I give this bass a 9 out of ten because of the wide neck and weight are to much bass for me to handle. After all I have been a guitar player for 30 years and this bass is a great bass for every level of player. Good Luck and Rock On!!
