  • Great Guitar

As reviewed by Rich W on 12/2/2009

I bought this guitar after not playing for about 6 years and wanted a nice inexpensive guitar to jam with on occasion . After playing it and seeing the price I just had to have it . Playability it just fantastic . I even compared it to the original 72 Deluxe and kinda liked the sound of the Squier better ( opinion) . After having it over 6 monthes and getting to know the guitar you'll see some of the flaws and corner cuttings. Some crooked screws ( no biggie ) and such . Simply replaceable thing that won't kill the guitar . After a while the 2 hums though are great ( neck humbucker is great when both clear and distorted but the bridge is lacking, need more power IMO) but will still leave you wanting more . I will be replacing them soon with some GFS Retrotron Liverpools . Even thought the negatives I still cannot knock this guitar . A great value for the money . Truly a cool guitar and would recommend it any day .

  • A nice surprise... very good value

As reviewed by Gitfiddler on 5/23/2010

I'm a jazz/blues player and I have been looking for a Tele with a humbucker in the neck position. I test drove a couple Tele models (Fender 72 reissue thinline and the solidbody) and then, I randomly tried this Squire model. Admittedly, I was not thinking of buying a Squire guitar, but the sales guy suggested I overlook the name and try it out. I'm happy I followed his advice. I was very surprised at how good this guitar played and sounded. It has good tone - deep and warm with the neck pup; punchy and crunchy with bridge. Its weight and density give it plenty of sustain. The action is low and the maple neck was straight (after a minor truss adjustment). I really prefer all maple necks to maple w/ rosewood fingerboards, but that's just me. The only thing I may do to upgrade the model is replace the tuners - really, everything else is fine. And for the price, it is an amazingly good value.

  • Superb guitar for the money

As reviewed by Jonny Reckless on 4/21/2010

I ordered one of these guitars online for delivery. I already have a standard telecaster and several other guitars. This is the first time I have ever bought a guitar without playing it beforehand. I was very impressed with this guitar. It arrived well set up: the neck is straight as a die, the frets even, the intonation spot on and the action was even, allowing note bends without any choking off. Metal players might wish to lower the action slightly, but for classic rock and blues it is ideal. It arrived with 9-42 gauge strings on it. All I had to do was tune it. The large radius maple neck makes playing blues and classic rock a pleasure. The pickups have a fat tone, not quite as dark as P90s, very usable for both clean and overdriven tones (I use a Marshall). When playing rock, the sound cleans up nicely with the volume backed off. The bridge pickup is much less microphonic at high volumes than a standard tele, due to the fact the pickup is not mounted directly to the bridge assembly. It definitely feels like a tele to play, and sounds quite similar to an SG; brighter than an LP. Overall, nothing wrong with it and great value for money.
