After playing drums for 23 years, I decided to stretch my musical legs and take up bass. I've heard alot of guitars in that time and this one takes the cake! First off, it's Fender quality at a Squire price... barely. The wood is high quality, the finish is flawless, there was no scratchy pots either. It has sustantial weight to it (doesn't feel like a toy) but it perfectly balanced. The dual pickups do a great job of isolating sounds to go from a country (passive pickup) feel to just the right amount of crunch when powered up for metal. My bass player said he would gig with it! The action is fantastic and it stays in tune quite a bit longer than I anticipated. Bottom line: Excellent bass for beginner through advanced player. A bit more pricey than "package deals", but WELL worth it in the long run. Enjoy!
A friend brought this bass to a gig; he said he doesn't play his other basses anymore, as he likes it so much. I liked it too, and after playing 7 basses at the store , ordered one myself.
Result: Surprisingly good looking, parts quality seems good. Plays well out of the box (but will need setup). Great tone, with broad range of sounds available with some thoughtful tweaking. Easy to play, with plenty of round wound twang defining the tones, but with adjustments to guitar, amp and articulation, one can achieve a fat, dark thud more akin to traditional tones.
Excellent value - very pretty.
Cons: Mine arrived with a significant cosmetic flaw - a small black knot on the face, but under the finish close to the bottom of the neck. I think this instrument should have been sold as a second. I contacted GC and they agreed to give me a store credit for a fair amount to compensate for defect. I'm satisfied with the outcome. Body somewhat heavy basswood.
Conclusion: Play one, if you like it, don't hesitate. It's a great deal. I hope it lasts.
I played one of these basses at your center through a BA-115HP Ampeg Amp and even my wife was surprised. She said Man that sounds great.
I use to had a harkte system,it never really gave me that phat round sound that I've heard around the music world. Not to be confused the Squier Bass sound great an so did the amp.
