  • A Short Scale Gem

As reviewed by Ron on 7/3/2009

I called the local guitar center to see if they had the red squier bronco bass in stock. I was surprised to find out this bass was special order only. I wasn't happy about the bass being shipped to my home, but I'm glad I did. The Squier Bronco bass was pulled out of the box, plugged in, tuned up and was found to play perfect. The only thing I found wrong was one pick guard screw was put in crooked, this is a easy fix. This is the second Squier bass I've purchased and I tell you, they make a find bass. Now! if someone would make a gig bag just for the Bronco bass that would be icing on the cake.

  • More then a Beginner Instrument

As reviewed by Donn Hussey on 11/18/2013

This bass is an interesting case where less is more. Take this bass, put flats on it, and put it through a little Acoustic combo. Crank the volume on the bass itself to about 80% and the tone knob all the way, then spend some time on with amp itself and you will have a setup that is close enough to an acoustic bass that you could use it instead of lugging around a huge instrument. It isn't too heavy, and the short scale makes it easy to play. The neck and fret board on mine were well done and there are no rough edges. The electronics sound good, but its a passive bass with a single pickup so that is really no feat. I have played this bass live for rockabilly, cajun, and blues gigs and it was the right sound for our three piece.

Not the best bass out there, but great for beginners. The compact size lets new players easily pick it up, and also opens up the instrument for others unable to play a full-size bass. My brother has tiny hands and arms, so this bass was a perfect Christmas gift for him. He won't put it down actually. And for the price, it is a great sounding bass guitar.
