I initially got the Sperzel trim-lock tuners to replace the tuners on my standard Strat. I then decided to remove them and put them on my old Peavey Preditor. I had to enlarge the tuner key holes in order to make the tuners fit. When I removed the Sperzel tuners from the Strat, one of the retainer pegs came loose from the tuner body. This was a poor design and it would be better if the retainers were molded into the tuner like the Fender factory tuners or at least more firmly attached. But once in place, strings are easily changed and the lockers hold the strings tight.
I got these to put on my son's 2001 Squier Stagemaster (the version without the FR-licensed trem. The stock tuners did not hold well at all. I am completely happy so far with these Sperzels. I did have to drill out some tiny holes for the tuner but after that they went in no problem. The one thing I am not sure about is the set screw seems like it might come loose. It hasn't but they seem to have some play in them. Otherwise I am very pleased with how they keep in tune. Believe me, I have tried to bend and dive them out of tune and haven't been able to.
Ok, in my world EMG 81's, Schaller Strap Locks and Sperzel Locking Tuners belong on all my guitars. This set was the first which I actually installed myself. I play ESP's and they recently started to cut corners on some of their Standard Series. I just picked up an M-I NTB Standard. I decided on these tuners for a few reasons. The M-1 came with (good) Gotoh Magnum Locking Tuners in black chrome. The guitar is flat black so I like the flat black finish on these. Also the thumb-screm locks are much more practical for speedy string changes. I have Sperzels on my Standard Series Viper and my Signature Series Truckster so I know the system. The installation is easy. Make sure to use the template on the packaging. It is on the side of the cordboard and easy to miss. It is far more easy than measuring. Fill in all other holes from the mounting screws before installing these. These are graduated with there being 2 of each size in a package. Once you have your new holes drilled and have the tuners popped in through the back you are ready for the washers and nuts. This is where you need to be careful. Do not over tighten the nuts! You can break off the threading on the tuners very easily. I did it. A little dab of super glue and a couple of minutes later the problem was solved but it was a little bit of a letdown to have it be so fragile. The finished product is well worth the short amount of time it takes to switch to these tuners. Not only will be able to change strings in a flash but you get that top-notch custom shop look for a few bucks. Well worth it.
