After many years of development, Spectrasonics presents their flagship virtual instrument Omnisphere. This revolutionary Power Synth breaks sonic ground by combining a wide variety of hybrid real time synthesis techniques, a vast library of remarkable Psychoacoustic sounds, and many innovative features that have never been seen before in any hardware or software synthesizer. It is the first to be based on Spectrasonics STEAM Engine.

Although extremely powerful, Omnisphere is designed with a unique user interface containing progressive layers of zooming to accommodate the complete range of users - from musicians who just want to be inspired by the sounds and customize them in an easy way, to expert synthesists and the most advanced sound designers. Users can go deeper and deeper into the music software and progress in their synthesis knowledge by simply exploring additional levels of sound manipulation options.

Omnisphere offers a host of hybrid synthesis and control capabilities including Variable Waveshaping DSP synthesis, Granular synthesis, Timbre Shifting, FM, polyphonic Ring Modulation, high-resolution streaming Sample Playback, Harmonia Dual Multimode Filter structure, Chaos Envelopes an advanced Unison mode, and the innovative Flex-Mod modulation routing system - to name a few.

Spectrasonics has pioneered several types of sampling for the core library of this virtual instrument, including unique Psychoacoustic sounds and sound sources created with a Composite Morphing Technique (CMT) - which morphs the harmonic characteristics of one instrument to another. As a bonus, a section of the core library is also devoted to representing the best of Spectrasonics award-winning sample libraries. When all of these organic core library soundsources are combined with the synthesis power of the STEAM engine, the sounds become alive in a truly dynamic and expressive way.

Among the many unique features this multi-timbral synth offers are its flexible arpeggiators with the innovative Groove Lock integration with Stylus RMX - allowing the arpeggiator pattern to instantly groove with the feel of the RMX drum loop; Live Mode for transitionless patch switching and layering, Stack Mode for powerful performance mapping; and integrated modulatable FX Racks.

Omnisphere is also the successor to Spectrasonics popular Atmosphere instrument, and contains enhanced versions of all the classic Atmosphere sounds. However, the core library in Omnisphere is 10-times the size of Atmosphere and features thousands of completely different sounds.

Spectrasonics Omnisphere is cross-platform compatible with Apple Macintosh OS X 10.4 and higher as a native Universal Binary and also with Microsoft Windows XP/Vista.

Audio Units, VST, and RTAS plug-in formats are supported for compatibility with all major host software.

The GREATEST synth ever produced

from pittsburgh

Of all the synthesizers ive looked at to expand my rig to just not be an older fantom x7, I have never ever seen something more powerful then spectrasonics omnisphere. the sound quality is of the finest ive heard out of any soft OR hard synth, a really good friend of mine majoring in audio engineering recommended this product to me plus I had read that many many films reiled on omnisphere for their sound tracks and one of my favorite keyboard players of all time the great Jordan Rudess from Dream Theater had used this product extensively last couple of albums with that band and I just simply knew i had to have it. if you want the entire history of synthesizers and sampling but you dont want to have an entire house full of old finnicky keyboards, omnisphere is the way to go! Only thing i must warn you ahead of time, if you buy this at your local guitar center, EVEN UNWRAPPED, you are NOT allowed to return it. it is their policy unfortunately and also it will take several hour upon hours to install so I would personally recommend this to serious buyers.....still though, it gets a 5 out or 5 for me

Out of the many hundreds of plugins I have tried and used for ambient music production this instrument is truly the best. It has a beautifully minimalist interface that is a real pleasure to use. The sound library is nothing short of impressive. At over 45GB in size you can literally spend lifetimes exploring all the possibilities. The sound quality is amazing - if you want to work with hi-resolution "HD" sound then look no further. This instrument reaches far and wide, has amazing capability and worth many more times than the price,

Incredible sounds! Lots of psychoacoustic goodness

By Mike

from Atlanta, GA

I bought Omnisphere a month ago and have to say that so far I am loving the sounds this thing makes. With 2000(ish) patches out of the box and the free patch library upgrade that includes all of the Atmoshpere patches you have 4000 sounds to start with. I also work with NI's Komplete 5 and find that the sounds that Omnisphere makes are much more deep and complex. Combining two part patches with multiple effects and the ability to mix sampled soundsources with traditional synth oscillator sounds and put effects sends on either part independantly are the icing on the cake of a very polished and intuitive full blown sythn. Basically this thing sounds incredible. The only downside to it is unlike other plug ins, it does not come out of the box with a standalone mode of playing. Opening up a complete DAW just to tool around a little and play is a slight annoynace but there are workarounds to this and freeware VST hosts such as Savihost that you can use to run omnisphere in a standalone mode in so this is not really a huge inconvenience, just an extra step that in my opinion they should have included, given the price tag. The live mode and stack modes are fantastic as well as you can set up dual live mode to control 8 patches with two seperate keyboards. Stack mode is a terrific implementation of layering that allows overlapping based upon key range, velocity or CC all with crossfades. All of the common syth controls are there as well as advanced envelope conturing. Modulation of paramaters is as easy as right clicking the control you want to modulate and choose what you want to modulate it with (LFO, Envelope, Mod wheel, velocity, etc...). The sounds this thing makes are jaw dropping. The tones and harmonics that are produced by combining some of the craziest sound sources. I did some research on this product before purchasing it and their website has some really terrific demos that tell about the product as well as a live demo by Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater that really exemplify the sounds this thing makes.
