  • Gigrac 600 - a perfect score

As reviewed by Pghgtrguy on 10/10/2006

The Gigrac is a big winner in my book. This is the ideal powered mixer for small to meduim sized clubs, churches, etc. The 2x300 amps are deceiving, as the power is exceptionally clean. The amps are rated 300 watts into 4 ohms, or 220 watts into 8 ohms. Sounds more like 500 watts. The channel strips have a distinct "British" sound, and are very easy to use. Just make sure you don't over-EQ. This is very different than most powered mixers, where you need to use the channel strip EQ to offset the poor sound quality. It sounds exceptional, so little EQ is necessary. The effects, even though limited to eight, are very useful, and extremely musical. No filler here, just the good stuff. Of all the powered mixers I've owned or used, the Gigrac is by far the best sounding, and easiest to use. The only drawback is the Gigrac sounds so good it will really bring out any deficiencies in your speaker cabinets!!

  • Best Value for the Money

As reviewed by Edze on 8/13/2007

Not too shabby.I was deciding between this and the Behringer. After hearing them side by side, I was sold on the GigRac!It's portable and the quality is great! When I got home I ran it through my speakers from my Bose 802 III's to my JBL MR 925 and JBL SR4735A's.300w x 2 SOUNDS like 300w x 2.The other mixer I tried in store had MORE features, but not things I would actually use in a show. The sound quality of the GigRac was distinctively better.

  • Best in it's class and price range

As reviewed by hewhoiscalledj on 3/4/2009

Seriously, it's a Soundcraft and they make serious mixers with that lovely British style EQ. Dont let the 2 band EQ on each channel fool you, it lets you nail the exact sound you want. The effects, although minimal, get the job done. Frankly, because it's such a simple system that sounds amazing, you spend much less time tweaking knobs. Plug and play has never been easier. Our band uses the versatile Gigrac600 as a practice PA, for live shows at smaller venues with no sound of their own, and more importantly for basic live recording. I send a feed of the master mix to my multi-track recorder and it works like magic for 2 track recording. Great way to record live shows. You can also use external effect processors or send a mix to another amplifier if you ever need more power or more speakers. This thing is indestructible, flawless and it also looks pretty damn sexy. The only thing Soundcraft could do to make it better is to give it some real handles but it's no big deal. You have the option to rackmount it which is pretty cool. Anyway, I'd recommend this badboy to any musician in need of a great sound with portability and value. I'd say that the Gigrac 1000 may be a better deal, but I've yet to feel the need for more power (or added bulk and weight for that matter.) Get one and it won't dissapoint.
