  • Very good starter kit. Hardware questionable...

As reviewed by Jake on 7/8/2011

I had this kit for 2 years, and during that time, I had alot of fun with this kit, but after I started to play faster, more rudimental double bass; the bass drums fell apart. Lugs and hooks completely snapped, hardware started to fall through, this IS a great kit to start on. But don't ever expect to gig with this kit much, it will fall apart on you. Nonetheless, if you are a starter, and will set this kit up once and practice on it (in that spot) for a couple years, buy it. Absolutely. After alot of adjustments it can be a really nice sounding kit, and a nice start to the ever-expanding world of drumset drumming.

  • Just buy it already...but if you need to know why, continue reading.

As reviewed by CHAD MOREHOUSE on 10/6/2011

I bought this as my very first drum set mainly because it looks awesome and I wanted a doublebass set without paying a few grand for one of the "namebrands" and it comes with everything you need to start playing, except cymbals. Anyway I have had it now for several months and play it for at LEAST an hour or two every single day (on the weekends its more like an 8hour jam session) so I really beat the crap out of this and so far only have some minor issues. The heads that come with it really suck, the snare head lasted about 30 minutes before I put a stick through it, I replaced it with a Evans Genera Dry and OMG it sounds 10X better, more of a sharp crack like a gunshot than a marching band sort of ping and its showing no wear at all. The rest of the heads have survived but have all sorts of marks on them and sound alright I guess but plan on replacing them anyway. other issue is the pedals are not only different but come with different batters so its a little difficult setting them up and getting used to the feel, the bass drum heads don;t help much here and I gave up trying to make both drums match as in they sound slightly different, that said they are very loud and awesome. I see where other people knock the hardware but all the cymbal stands are very sturdy, i have a 22" Sabian ride and 18/16" crashes and have no issues with them moving around, the legs on the bass drums take some fenagling to keep them from moving but no big deal there, the kit does take up alot of space so plan for that as well. in conclusion plan on replacing the heads and the pedals as its difficult to play double bass really fast for very long because the footboards are short and the springs have a tendancy to come loose, but over all the shells are BEAUTIFUL ( I have the black with black hardware) and it comes with enough hardware to put 4 cymbals and a high hat so you won;t need to really add anything for a long time. Like the title says, just buy it already!!

  • Amazing kit... but Sound Percussion are ripping THEMSELVES off. :-)

As reviewed by Jason Vandrose on 5/23/2011

First of all, I'd like to say this kit is all you'll need for a very long time if you just change all the heads and fix her up. This kit has been so great live & in studio. The fact that this a "beginner" kit, shows how underrated it is. This kit is comparable to a Pearl export. It's even much better than the Tama Rockstar 8 piece. PLUS you get hardware. Comon guys... you have to be a real doofus not to take this bundle. SP really have to learn how to price their stuff... I mean, if it were me... I'd start the price from $899.99 or higher. Take advantage, buy this kit. You'll love this kit, and EVEN MORE when you tune her up with new heads, and get some dual-chain quality pedals. The default pedals are alright if you've never played drums before, but you should replace them with some DW 3000s or anything better. Do keep the beaters though, the felt beaters are really nice. I replaced the DW plastic beaters with these felt beaters. 5/5 beautiful kit.
