Stock Heads-After 2 weeks, humongous dents on them. Snare was alright though. (Now I got Remo Pinstripes and Coated Power Dot) Pedal-Never got to try out. I use a PDP double pedal which is pretty good. Everything had an over ring. Immense over ring. But i got Evans Rings to dampen them out(when i had stock heads) I still use them though. Floor tom is really small :[ Bass is Nice though! after i tuned it high, i slapped some SP double click pads on it, sounds beast for its price. The Snare is great after tuned good, and new heads. Mount tom is really disapointing. :[ The hardware has yet to fail me, its amazing. This is just a beginner kit though. Strictly that. Its a perfect starter kit though for anybody. But after you grow out of it, you would really need a new kit.

great for the money

By steven wright

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SP 4 Piece Drum Kit with Hardware:

I'm a pro player who was looking for a small "practice" kit. I play in several bands and moving my drums was impractical. Right out of the box, I was impressed with the quality. Hardware is solid, though light duty. I could definetly use this kit on a jazz gig. The week link is the foot pedal. No lock nut on the bass pedal adjustment screw so it constantly goes out of adjustment. Overall I'm extremely satisfied.

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SP 4 Piece Drum Kit with Hardware:

I've been a drummer for 15 years. I have owned 8 sets in my time.Currently I own this set and a 2008 Tama Rockstar which I would never sell it has amazing tone. The Sound Percussion set gets some really bad press. So I had to see for my self and purchased one about a week ago.I bought Remo pinstripes for the toms,a powerstroke 3 for the bass drum a long with a drum holez in the front, and I keep the factory head on the snare.I recently replaced it with a steel shell Ludwig snare. When I did have the snare it was actually impressive.I got a very nice crack sound out of it.I like my snare heads fairly tight. You have to remember this all comes down to tuning. If someone doesn't know how to tune, this set can sound like a fart just like any other higher end set if not tuned properly.I've made this set sound just as loud and good as my Rockstar set.The hardware is not the best.I do own top of the line Pearl/Tama stands but I knew what I would be looking at when opening the boxes. The bass drum pedal and hi hat stand were absolute garbage I threw those out.I couldn't even think about selling those to anyone. The snare stand and the cymbal stand were very decent and work great for what they are.I sold those to a friend who was just building up a drum kit. Before getting your heads all tuned up make sure to go around the insides of the shells with a screw driver and tighten the screws in there since they are a bit loose nothing noticeable but I just did it for the hell of it and found a few that could be tighter.I have not replaced the resonant heads yet and the drums sound great. It took a bit longer to tune up since I'm not used to the small sizes of the shells. The floor tom with a remo pinstripe can really have a low tone for being so small.I'm looking forward to doing some recording with this set in a blues band I jam with. Also the badges on the drums do look sharp with the yellow on black. All n all this is a great starter set just be sure to know that you will have to buy a better kick pedal and hi hat stand.I suggest the pearl 900 kick pedal for 70 bucks I have used one for the past five years and has held up beautifully. And the Sound Percussion 880 series hi hat stand is absolutely amazing for 70 bucks. I use that one as well taken out to play live and many times just to jam sessions always worked and set up without a problem. And it holds heavy Zildjian cast hi hat cymbals just fine.If you've been playing a long time like I have, then this set is also great for you, since we have the upgraded hardware already and have tuning skills.Just make sure to buy new heads while your still at the store. It will make this set sound great. To the Beginners, don't get resonant heads right away either, save that money and get the kick pedal and hi hat stand if your just starting out.I'm happy I bought this set and looking forward to modifying it. Hopefully this review has been a help to everyone considering buying this set.Rock on!

Sweet Drum Kit & Nice Price!

By Sikare

from So-Cal

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SP 4 Piece Drum Kit with Hardware:

This kit is awesome for the money! I needed a cheap beater kit to haul around town that was compact enough to fit in a sedan and this kit delivered. I changed the heads and put Remo coated ambassadors on top and clear ambassadors on the bottoms, coated ambassador on the kik and an ebony on the front side with an air hole. Man, this kit came to life once I added my pro snare, hardware and cymbals. Really punchy powerful kit. Not only could a beginning drummer get a lot of mileage out of this kit, I would use this to record anytime as well. Buy it! This is the kit you want!

Great with new heads

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SP 4 Piece Drum Kit with Hardware:

Got this kit a little over a year ago. Sounds great/amazing with Evans heads slapped on it. Won't sound too good with stock heads, and cymbals are pretty cheap, but It's an amazing deal for the price. The bass drum is amazing with the Evans batter head and a pillow stuffed inside.

Ehh...

By Scott B.

from Mandeville, LA

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SP 4 Piece Drum Kit with Hardware:

I've had this set for about 2 years now, and it's holding up. The toms are great, but the bass and snare ring too much. I still have the stock heads on the toms and bass, but the snare broke after a little while. I put a pillow in the bass, and the cotton beater isn't hard enough to get a good sound. All in all, it's okay. However, it's not for people like me, who are NOT beginners...

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SP 4 Piece Drum Kit with Hardware:

Has outstanding sound for entry level for my 6yr old, and it is also big enough for me to play since i havn't played for years, i had my buddy come over who's a professional drummer come tune them and show me how there supposed to be played and man what a difference when a pro sets things up, his drumming also inspired my boy who's eyes lit up while he was playing.

fantastic buy

By Pierce

from Philadelphia, PA

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SP 4 Piece Drum Kit with Hardware:

i got this kit for christmas, and i'm loving it. The hi hat is perfect, after some small adjustments. The floor tom is good, as is the high tom, but the high tom does have a lot of after ring. The bass is fine but the after ring on that can get ridiculous if you hit it too hard. The cymbal is nice and loud, so you wouldn't need to hit it hard. Easy to set up, small, and has good range. The downside is the snare mostly. It only sounds like a snare when you really wail on it, which sounds stupid. But after some tuning it got better. Soloutions to this problem if you incounter them would be to use a pad in the bass so it doesn't resound as much, and tune the heck out of your snare. As a total package, this kit is exellent for a first buy, and still good to have for intermediates like myself. Looks wise, its sexy, i'll be honest. The black goes perfectly for serious drummers. Definitaly get the kit at this price, it's a steal.

Great first drum set!

By Alec

from Englewood, CO

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SP 4 Piece Drum Kit with Hardware:

I bought this kit yesterday and it is my first kit. I think it is amazing! The bass drum I like because I made some tweaks and it sounds good with the adjustments. The toms are going to be okay when I get new heads for them. I put my old student snare on the drum stand that it came with but the other snare is also a good one to use. I got the kit without the cymbals so I put my old hi-hat cymbals on the new hi-hat stand which is an okay stand. But I am denfinitly getting a cymbal for that other stand soon. Overall you will enjoy this kit a lot!

awsome drum set

By giezi

from pharr away

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SP 4 Piece Drum Kit with Hardware:

I was at guitar center looking for a cheap(in price) drum set for my band. when i saw this drum set i liked the way it look right away. i was talking to one the the coolest sales person there and he told me that this drum, with the right heads would sound like a $800 drum set. well i bought the drums, the new heads (both sides). after i put them on i had this guy come to my house and tune them.. well let me tell you that this little drum set sounds soo awsome! i hear ppl saying that these arnt that good, even with new heads.. but its cuz ppl forget to buy the resonant head(thats the head that RESONATES!) and think that the drum set is not worth it. if anybody is thinking about buying it. do it! you wont be dissapointed. just buy all the heads and have an expert tune your drum. you'll be impressed by it.
