Meet the smallest addition to Sony's family of portable audio recorders: the PCM-M10 portable recorder is a palm-sized compact recording unit designed to be the perfect musician's tool for composing music, recording voice, instruments, practice sessions, and performances-even for use as a personal music player. This Linear PCM Recorder adopted many of its features and style from the highly acclaimed PCM-D50 recorder, including rugged construction, compact size, and a cool design. The digital recorder joins Sony's PCM-D1 and PCM-D50 models to form a comprehensive family of flexible and rugged portable field recorders for every professional sound application, including live sound, house of worship, theatrical, and broadcast journalism.
The PCM-M10 is designed to faithfully capture even the most subtle nuances of live performances and events. It is conveniently small in size but packs in many beneficial features: a five-second pre-record buffer, WAV and MP3 format record and play, USB port for easy uploads and downloads, Digital Pitch Control, and a MicroSD/Memory Stick Micro slot. Providing 24-bit/96kHz recording, a 4 GB built-in flash memory, user-friendly operation, and electret condenser stereo microphones, the PCM-M10 hand-held recorder is the ideal choice for making live musical, nature sounds, and field recordings.
"The PCM-M10 is ideal for budget-conscious professionals who still need high-quality sound capabilities," said Karl Kussmaul, senior product manager for professional audio at Sony Electronics. "Musicians will especially love its range of user-friendly features that can help inspire them to new levels of creativity."
Key features of the Sony PCM-M10 recorder include a built-in speaker, cross-memory recording, digital pitch control, digital limiter, low-cut filter, track mark functions, a 5-second pre-recording buffer and A-B repeat capability. The PCM-M10 comes supplied with Sound Forge Audio Studio Recorder Edition software.
The portable recorder includes a USB high-speed port for simple uploading and downloading of native WAV or MP3 format recorded files to and from Windows PC or Macintosh computers. The M10 offers durable metal construction and long battery life using conventional AA alkaline batteries.

Having owned a Zoom H2 and Tascam DR-07, and watched both of them break down after less than a year, I am relieved to finally find a class act! (Haven't had it a year, though, we'll see how well it holds up). I use it to record band rehearsals and concerts, and, even in MP3 mode, is true to the music. It's fidelity and clarity are awesome, and the controls are logical and well laid out. An AC charger is included (others charge $40-50), as is a REMOTE!! Don't have to get up and move to the unit after each song. It can stop, pause, record, and place track marks from the remote, again, well thought out. No better unit on the market for this price, compact, pocket sized, and works quite well. Haven't connected it to my computer yet, will defer that review to others.
I bought this for lessons, practice and just to be able to critique myself and our jam's, however this little gut was so great it started to go to small venues and open mic concerts with me. I burned CD's for some of the perfomers and they were blown away with the quality of the recordings. My first clue of the quality was recording a lesson in my back room and in the playback you could hear the fridge turn on in the kitchen. It IS QUALITY !!
Pros: Sturdy construction, essential functions have dedicated buttons on the unit (not buried in a hard-to-get-at menu), on-board mics are surprisingly good, nice big display for old blind guys like me, comes with remote control, AC adapter and Sound Forge editing software as standard. Cons: Micro SD cards for data storage(not supplied), they're so small they're actually inconvenient to use and easy to lose. Great machine for the money from a good name brand. Very happy camper.
I did a lot of research and it paid off. This thing is amazing like a time machine, I was there before. Well worth the few extra bucks spent. Do youself a favor and do the research, quality and versatility along with the optional accessories included make this a best buy in my book. Its not a recording studio but you might think it is by the quality of the recordings. A quality build and the features I was looking for. BUY IT !!
Easy to use. The record sound is more sweet than the reality. If you want to use it as a mp3 player and to catch the instant inspiration, it is a nice choice. If you want to have a professional device, you might be dissapointed.
