Great Wireless System

By Mitchell Shaffer

from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Sony Digital Wireless Guitar Package:

I read many positive reviews the DWZ-B30GB on gear websites before purchasing and they did not let me down. I will say I was concerned when I first tried it at my house because I would occasionally get a slight popping sound when holding out long notes, especially when an object or my body was between the body pack and the receiver. When I took it to rehearsal all extra noises went away and left only crystal clear audio. Any reservations I had went away went I started using it live. I have not had any interference problems with the unit anywhere but my house (which I know to be a signal "dead-zone" for a lot of my devices). The unit is very easy to use and is compact so it fits nicely on a pedal board. The cable tone is a nice addition. I can dial in the tone I'm used to from a 20' cord, but I have been turing it off and taking advantage of the full range of the signal. BASS PLAYERS: this wireless works very well with bass, even a five string. Finally, Sony just makes high quality products. The body pack is a tough metal and the receiver, while made of plastic, is very sturdy. I am very happy with this product and highly recommend it to anyone looking to ditch the wires!

Comments about Sony Digital Wireless Guitar Package:

This wireless unit sounds amazing, hands down. I love the cable tone feature! I've seen in the other reviews that people were having problems running the unit off a 9V power supply but it works fine,as long as you're giving it enough juice! In 9V operation, this unit needs 120 mA. Most power supplies have a max current of around 100 mA per jack,so make sure you are powering it off a high current jack like on the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2+ (no affiliation, it's just the one I use and it has two jacks that have a higher current output of 250 mA).

Comments about Sony Digital Wireless Guitar Package:

This unit has been working well for me. Nice Quality sound and the line of sight connection is further than I'll ever need. Compact receiver fits nicely on my pedalboard. Batterys seem to last through 2 full gigs (8+ hours) and the unit plugged into the back of my power supply works well. FYI-The neotech wireless pouch(small) fits the transmitter unit perfectly.

I'm a little surprised at the negative reviews this unit has received so I waited a couple months for my review. My experience so far is a positive one.

Yes, I also heard a high pitched tone when running the receiver from a 9 volt power supply. This occurred ONLY when I was running VERY high gain (amp/pedals). As soon as I used the 12 volt adaptor that came with the unit, it was quiet. If you play mostly clean or use the 12 volt adaptor, this should be non issue. Sometimes we need to take the time to turn some knobbies and tweak our rigs components to play nice with each other :).
Because I believe it should work equally well under all available power sources, for all types of music, I will give a GOOD rating to an otherwise excellent pedal. YMMV.

The fact that a replacement cable was not yet available, a reviewer trashed this unit for that? I called Sony and they said that the unit was still very new to the market and the replacement cable would be available soon. There ya go. The cable seems to be fairly rugged I should hope it will last and if it goes bad and I cant get another cable THEN I will write a negative.
Anyway my experience with this unit so far is a good one. Thought you should know.

Comments about Sony Digital Wireless Guitar Package:

Had huge dropout issues with the G90, which this Sony DWG replaced. The DWG arrived and worked as advertised.

The Sony DWG is reliable, helpful, user-friendly, courteous, kind.... you get the point. No dropouts. None. Loved it!!! Great product. Sound is great.

Until----I tried to get a replacement guitar cable. It's good to have a backup cable or just replace the stock flimsy one that came with the package. No 3rd party or even Sony themselves could get the replacement part. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Inexpensive retail piece. Sorry, consumer. You lose.

After probably 6-7 emails, $$ in phone calls and a lot of time begging for help from Sony, Sony USA finally admitted that the part is not available in the USA. Really!?! It's a cable, people. I even gave them the part number. Nope. Not available. No soup for U.

(As an aside, I bought a Sennheiser replacement guitar cable with exactly the same looks. Locking 1/8" trs and 1/4" plug. But, apparently the Sony guitar cables are wired differently. I found out the hard way and the "identical" Sennheiser didn't work).

Musician's Friend was as always supremely helpful; but, they couldn't help get the Sony part either (oh, neither could Sony).

Great sound; poor planning for replacement cable availability for musicians.

The sound is great; but if you desire a replacement cable, then you'll be up a creek with this little fish. The DWG product is now deep 6'd and I am looking to spend my cash elsewhere on a wireless company who is helpful. Musician's Friend was tops, like I said. Sony (as big as they are) was useless.

      Good design but has dropouts

      By Bob Cowles

      from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Sony Digital Wireless Guitar Package:

As a long time user of Xwire and Line6 digital wireless for bass and guitar I was excited to see a new player. I purchased this with high hopes based on the Sony brand. The design is great small footprint receiver with option of using battery or AC power. There are two AC power ports so you can use either polarity AC adapters. Has a narrow band and wide band. Transmitter is very sturdy metal but receiver is plastic. Cable on beltpack is OK but I don't like proprietary cables like this it is a screw in instead of regular 1/4 inch like the Line 6 G30 which I really like. I used this at two band rehearsals and sound was as good as Line 6 but as I walked around it would experience drop outs. When someone would walk between me and the receiver it would drop out. I tried every channel and narrow and wide bands but still the same. This is going back to GC I will wait until they work out the bugs then try it again.
